Book Self Dual Chern Simons Theories

Download or read book Self Dual Chern Simons Theories written by Gerald Dunne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-02-13 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-duality greatly reduces the mathematical difficulties of a theory but it is also a notion of considerable physical significance. The new class of self-dual Chern-Simons theories discussed in detail in this book arise in the context of anyonic quantum field theory and have applications to models such as the quantum Hall effect, anyonic superconductivity, and Aharonov-Bohm scattering. There are also interesting connections with the theory of integrable models. The author presents the abelian and non-abelian models for relativistic and non-relativistic realizations of the self-dual Chern-Simons theories and finishes with some applications in quantum physics. The book is written for advanced students and researchers in mathematical, particle, and condensed matter physics.

Book Solitons in Field Theory and Nonlinear Analysis

Download or read book Solitons in Field Theory and Nonlinear Analysis written by Yisong Yang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are two approaches in the study of differential equations of field theory. The first, finding closed-form solutions, works only for a narrow category of problems. Written by a well-known active researcher, this book focuses on the second, which is to investigate solutions using tools from modern nonlinear analysis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: th This volume contains the proceedings of the X Congress of the Interna tional Association of Mathematical Physics, held at the University of Leipzig from 30 July until 9 August 1991. There were more than 400 participants, from 29 countries, making it a truly international gathering. The congress had the support of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, the European Economic Community, the International Association of Math ematical Physics, the International Mathematical Union and the Interna tional Union of Pure and Applied Physics. There were also sponsors from in dustry and commerce: ATC Mann, Deutsche Bank AG, Miele & Cie GmbH, NEC Deutschland GmbH, Rank Xerox, Siemens AG and Stiftungsfonds IBM Deutschland. On behalf of the congress participants and the members of the International Association of Mathematical Physics, I would like to thank all these organisations for their very generous support. The congress took place under the auspices of the Ministerp6isident des Freistaates Sachsen, K. Biedenkopf. The conference began with an address by A. Uhlmann, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee. This was followed by speeches of welcome from F. Magirius, City President of Leipzig; C. Weiss, Rector of the Uni versity of Leipzig; and A. Jaffe, President of the International Association of Mathematical Physics."

Book Fractional Statistics and Quantum Theory

Download or read book Fractional Statistics and Quantum Theory written by Avinash Khare and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the subtleties of quantum statistical mechanics in lower dimensions and their possible ramifications in quantum theory. The discussion is at a pedagogical level and is addressed to both graduate students and advanced researchers with a reasonable background in quantum and statistical mechanics.Topics in the first part of the book include the flux tube model of anyons, the braid group and a detailed discussion about the various aspects of quantum and statistical mechanics of a noninteracting anyon gas.The second part of the book includes a detailed discussion about fractional statistics from the point of view of Chern-Simons theories. Topics covered here include Chern-Simons field theories, charged vortices, anyon superconductivity and the fractional quantum Hall effect.Since the publication of the first edition of the book, an exciting possibility has emerged, that of quantum computing using anyons. A section has therefore been included on this topic in the second edition. In addition, new sections have been added about scattering of anyons with hard disk repulsion as well as fractional exclusion statistics and negative probabilities.
