Book Self Directed Learning in the era of the COVID 19 pandemic

Download or read book Self Directed Learning in the era of the COVID 19 pandemic written by Josef de Beer and published by AOSIS. This book was released on 2023-03-01 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to scholarship in the field of pre-service teacher education, with a specific focus on research into the enhancement of self-directed learning, and contributes to the discourse on creating a disposition towards self-directed learning during the social and academic integration of first-year students within higher education institutions. Two chapters also deal with research on the development of self-directed learning and nuanced understandings of the chosen professions of Law and Health Sciences students. The target audience is scholars working in the fields of teacher education, self-directed learning, engaging pedagogies, problem-based learning, cooperative learning and gamification. Whereas social constructivist learning theory served as an overarching theoretical framework for the virtual excursions, the various chapters in the book also draw on other secondary theories, such as self-determination theory, social interdependence theory, gender theory and the with fitness model of Kounin (1970).

Book Self Directed Learning in the era of the COVID 19 pandemic

Download or read book Self Directed Learning in the era of the COVID 19 pandemic written by Yolani Geldenhuys and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted teaching and learning at higher education institutions (HEIs), and this book disseminates research findings on a series of cross-campus online initiatives of the North-West University (NWU) to ensure high-quality self-directed learning, whilst simultaneously attending to the need for inclusion and diversity in this challenging context. The golden thread running through the 13 chapters is how this HEI responded to the pandemic in a creative way through its investment in online virtual student excursions, based on problem-based, cooperative learning and gamification principles to support self-directed learning. Whereas virtual excursions usually refer to learning opportunities where 'a museum, author, park or monument is brought to the student' (Hehr 2014:1), the virtual excursion in our context is an activity system (Engeström 1987) where students' learning is scaffolded across the zone of proximal development (Vygotsky 1978) and where their 'social and pedagogical boundaries are stretched or expanded' (De Beer & Henning 2011:204). Students engage as Homo ludens, the playing human (Huizinga 1955), in learning activities embedded in an ill-structured problem, and through reflective activities, they are encouraged to reflect on their own naïve understandings or biases. This 'tension', or in Veresov (2007) parlance, 'dramatical collisions', provides a fertile learning space for self-directed learning.

Book Innovative curriculum design

Download or read book Innovative curriculum design written by Neal Petersen and published by AOSIS. This book was released on 2023-09-29 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this book is original research regarding the implementation of problem-based learning and pedagogies of play as active approaches to foster self-directed learning. With the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) in mind, educational institutions need to rethink teaching and learning for the future. As such, active engagement can be encouraged, as evident in this book, where problem-based learning drives learning through real-world problems, while pedagogy of play focuses on innovative environments where the action of play and learning are integrated with the aim of developing SDL. The following are addressed in the chapters: an overview of problem-based learning and pedagogy of play, metaliteracy, playful problem-based learning tasks, computational thinking in game-based tasks and geometry, solving puzzles, applying LEGO®, using drama as the pedagogy of play and implementing educational robotics. The empirical research findings disseminated in this book aim to inspire academics in the research focus area of self-directed learning with active learning approaches in the school and tertiary classroom that hold affordances to enhance 21st-century skills. Active learning is an umbrella term for pedagogies that mainstream student engagement, such as problem-based learning, cooperative learning, gamification, role-play and drama. This scholarly book highlights various engaging pedagogies.

Book Blended learning environments to foster self directed learning

Download or read book Blended learning environments to foster self directed learning written by Christo van der Westhuizen and published by AOSIS. This book was released on 2023-03-31 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on blended learning environments to foster self-directed learning highlights the focus on research conducted in several teaching and learning contexts where blended learning had been implemented and focused on the fostering of self-directed learning. Several authors have contributed to the book, and each chapter provides a unique perspective on blended learning and self-directed learning research. From each chapter, it becomes evident that coherence on the topics mentioned is established. One of the main aspects drawn in this book, and addressed by several authors in the book, is the use of the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework when implementing teaching and learning strategies in blended learning environments to foster self-directed learning. This notion of focusing on the CoI framework is particularly evident in both theoretical and empirical dissemination presented in this book. What makes this book unique is the fact that researchers and peers in varied fields would benefit from the findings presented by each chapter, albeit theoretical, methodological or empirical in nature – this, in turn, provides opportunities for future research endeavours to further the narrative of how blended learning environments can be used to foster self-directed learning.

Book Advances in Technological Innovations in Higher Education

Download or read book Advances in Technological Innovations in Higher Education written by Adarsh Garg and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-03-29 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolution of technology in education can no longer be comprehended simply by looking at the use of computers and networks. Technology is not just a supplementary tool to the conventional method of education. Education has to undergo a complete transformation with technological innovations for the sustainability of quality education as a system and not in silos. Sustainability in education also necessitates a more workable strategy to realize socially viable educational policies and practices which can focus more on personalized learning. Due to various factors like emerging technologies; changing needs of the learners; policy reforms for enhancing employability; and emphasis on uninterrupted education as in the case of the pandemic scenario of COVID-19, there is a need to steer a major transition in the education system. The education system has to be real and proficient for it to be instrumental to nurture an informed and knowledgeable society. This book on technological innovations in higher education is organized, largely, based on the diversity of higher education ecosystems that are supported by technological innovations. Various author viewpoints give insights into the full potential of technology as well as its risks in interrelated areas of higher education to work towards sustainability of value-based quality education across the globe.

Book Information Communication Technology and Local Self Governance A New Age Solution for Digital India

Download or read book Information Communication Technology and Local Self Governance A New Age Solution for Digital India written by Dr. Shashi Punam and published by Libertatem Media Private Limited. This book was released on 2022-11-15 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The digital world in which we live today is the result of several developments in automation and science, as well as modernizations and the most recent technologies. At the moment, every country desires to be completely digitised in order for the country to be legitimated in a more effective manner. The phrase “Digital India” refers to the concern about the use of different Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) such as mobile phones, personal computers, tablets, TVs, and other similar devices to promote the country’s development. The Digital India Campaign is a visionary initiative by the Indian government to transform our country into a smart, economically cautious, and digitally legitimised nation through the use of technology. To reconstruct India, the Indian government aspires to provide residents with quality and acceptable administrative services, as well as to promote coordination and synchronisation of obligations among citizens. The Digital India Campaign intends to link the people of India digitally and to convey the different government services and programmes to them via the use of information and communications technology (ICT). The notion of local self-governance is not a new one, since it has its origins in antiquity, dating back to the period of the Mauryan emperors and even before them. The path of local self-governance from the time of the dinosaurs to the present day is depicted in this study. Furthermore, in the current environment, information and communication technology (ICT) has emerged as a successful tool for the dissemination of various e-governance services, and the Government of India has formulated the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) with an adequate service delivery mechanism in this regard. After ICT was introduced, numerous apps were developed by both the federal and state governments that contributed to strengthening of public-private partnerships (PRIs) for rural transformation. The advancement of information and communication technologies (ICTs) has created a plethora of possibilities in rural India. It is feasible for information and communication technologies to make cognition sharing more convenient, and information may be easily transmitted via the use of information and communication technologies. This information might be easily accessed and used by administrators responsible for developing rural development strategies in India. Interactions between the Ministry of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, the Government of India, and the Panchayat Raj Institutions are coordinated. In order to ensure rural development and strengthen rural local government, the primary goal of the e-panchayat is to provide a diverse range of services to its stakeholders. A series of research phases were initiated after the notion of the e-Panchayat. The stages of information gathering and planning, information and service requirements assessment, process re-engineering, and DPR (detailed project report) preparation are all included. Finally, in 2009, with the assistance of the National Information Council, the Indian government launched e-Panchayat (NIC). Along with numerous research papers, this book sheds some insight on the importance of information and communications technology (ICT) in self-governance toward the digital India. On the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav a workshop was funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research from July 7th to 16th July,2022. Book Advancing Self Directed Learning in Higher Education

Download or read book Advancing Self Directed Learning in Higher Education written by Mncube, Dumsani Wilfred and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-05-01 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-directed learning (SDL) is considered a core concept in problem-based learning (PBL) and student-centered learning. More importantly, the current face-to-face model of curriculum implementation faces many challenges that seem to question its dominance over other models. The violent nature of the COVID-19 pandemic has again vindicated SDL practitioners and research enthusiasts to continue seeking solutions that will enhance skills to cope in a rapidly changing technological, globalized world. However, the higher education sector is challenged when promoting SDL due to a slow pace of digital integration since the education system is not fully transformed. This has necessitated an urgent need for global discourse on how universities globally are implementing SDL strategies to enhance the quality of curriculum delivery. Advancing Self-Directed Learning in Higher Education provides insight into various strategic approaches that could be adopted for the successful implementation of SDL in higher education. It is written for professionals who want to improve their understanding of how to improve student teaching and learning and the quality of curriculum implementation in higher education. In this realm, this book provides ideas to its readers about the approaches pertaining to strategy and innovative measures, practical implementations, and tools in the field of curriculum and SDL. Covering topics such as educational technology, intentional education practice theory, and student experience, this premier reference source is an essential resource for teachers, policymakers, lecturers, research scholars, students of higher education, administrators, librarians, academicians, and researchers.

Book Recalibrating teacher training in African higher education institutions

Download or read book Recalibrating teacher training in African higher education institutions written by Sifiso Sibanda and published by AOSIS. This book was released on 2023-03-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book critically examines the role of governments in promoting parity during and in post-pandemic education. This comes from the realisation that the pandemic has deepened the crisis by depleting the meagre resources that African countries might have devoted to ‘normative educational practices’ where those on the margins would have been pushed further behind while the privileged would have been further initiated into the cultural and capital flows of private schools and historically research-intensive institutions of higher learning. This has far-reaching implications for the education of underprivileged citizens, and education, particularly modes and modalities of delivery, has to be reimagined to subvert the challenges wrought by the pandemic. This book significantly bridges the gap between the pre-and post-COVID-19 pandemic pedagogical practices and the erstwhile modalities that have been resilient over time. The book focuses on ways to stave off pedagogical challenges that face countries as the global pandemic makes its mark.
