Book Chemical Protective Clothing Permeation Degradation Database IBM Version

Download or read book Chemical Protective Clothing Permeation Degradation Database IBM Version written by Krister Forsberg and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-10-26 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three most important things to evaluate when selecting Chemical Protective Clothing (CPC) are 1) evidence of degradation of the garment exposed to a chemical; 2) breakthrough time, and 3) permeation rate. Because proper CPC selection must be based on permeation and degradation tests performed upon specific manufacturer products, you need an information source that enables you to access test results quickly and easily. Chemical Protective Clothing Permeation/Degradation Database is that source. It is the world's largest international CPC database, containing over 12,000 results from tests of more than 660 chemicals and mixtures against more than 250 CPC models. Every test result has a complete reference source. Use Chemical Protective Clothing Permeation/Degradation Database as a supplement to your Material Safety Data Sheets to help select the best garments for your particular needs. It will be just as important to use this information to evaluate your existing stock of CPC to determine which chemicals they should not be used with. Furthermore, the powerful searching capabilities built into the database programs help to provide rapid responses in emergency situations, especially when used on portable computers. Chemical Protective Clothing Permeation/Degradation Database is completely menu-driven and features automatic installation for quick and easy use. It can be searched by such key items as chemical, chemical class, garment material, manufacturer, product model number, and reference source. The powerful searching programs performs "and/or"-type searches, and the results may be automatically printed or exported to disk files. Common synonyms are also listed so computerized searches will easily locate every chemical of interest. The IBM version of Chemical Protective Clothing Permeation/Degradation Database can be used on IBM-compatible machines with 640K RAM and a hard drive. You should have DOS Version 2.0 or higher and at least 1MB of available hard drive disk space to use the program. The power and versatility of Chemical Protective Clothing Permeation/Degradation Database makes it essential for industrial hygienists, lab managers and technicians, workers in chemical laboratories, safety professionals, emergency response personnel, fire fighters, and regulators.

Book Understanding and Using Chemical Permeation Data in the Selection of Chemical Protective Clothing

Download or read book Understanding and Using Chemical Permeation Data in the Selection of Chemical Protective Clothing written by RA. Jamke and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the high level of effort that ASTM F23.30 Subcommittee on Chemical Resistance of Protective Clothing has put into bringing order into the process of evaluating and selecting chemical protective clothing (CPC), much confusion and many misconceptions still exist in the minds of those using or selecting CPC. Inadvertent misuse or misunderstanding of manufacturers' or distributors' data or failure to seek out the proper chemical resistance information may lead to incorrect and potentially dangerous garment selection. Through a review of existing and proposed ASTM standards and related literature, this paper calls attention to critical issues in evaluating and comparing chemical protective clothing materials.

Book An Evaluation of a Permeation Field Test Kit to Aid Selection of Chemical Protective Clothing

Download or read book An Evaluation of a Permeation Field Test Kit to Aid Selection of Chemical Protective Clothing written by SB. Storment and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has developed a field kit based on a permeation cup test, to aid in the selection of chemical protective clothing. The operation of the permeation field test kit is based on a gravimetric method. This involves placing a small amount of test chemical in the permeation cup, and weighing the assembled cup. The cup is then removed from the balance and placed on a stand in an inverted position, so that the chemical is in direct contact with the material. The stand allows air to flow across the surface of the material to remove permeating vapor. Periodic weighings are conducted for approximately one hour or other established test period. Cup assembly weight loss data can then be used to determine the permeation resistance of the tested material. Prototype kits were evaluated by the U.S. Fire Administration for their application in hazardous chemical emergency response. Evaluations were conducted at four fire department locations; Sacramento, California; Prince George's County, Maryland; Phoenix, Arizona; and Del Ray Beach, Florida. Each location presented a different set of climatic conditions in terms of humidity and temperature. The test matrix consisted of five chemicals and five materials. Chemicals were chosen to represent a range of volatility while clothing materials were sampled from different types of garments. Triplicate tests were conducted for each material-chemical combination. Improvements were successively made in the kit's design and procedures and also evaluated during the study. The results were analyzed for intrasite and intersite variation as well as being compared to laboratory test data. The study demonstrated the utility of the kit in emergency response applications. Observations from this and related studies have indicated a number of changes to additional applications, changes to kit design, and methods for interpreting the data.
