Book excerpt: The multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) problems indicate the alternatives which have more or less resemblance to each other. An important mathematical tool used by decision-makers (DMs) to quantify these resemblances is the similarity measure (SM). SM is a powerful tool that measures the resemblance more accurately. Mostly, fuzzy sets (FSs) and its extensions handle the vague and uncertain information by considering the membership, non-membership, and indeterminacy degrees whose sum always lies in the interval [0; 1]. However, single-valued neutrosophic sets (SVNSs) and interval-valued neutrosophic sets (IVNSs) have information whose sum is bounded in [0; 3]. In the present work, we extended the SM presented by William and Steel for SVNSs and IVNSs by using the concept of Euclidean distance.

In this paper, a new model for decision making in the selection of projects is presented based on single valued neutrosophic number (SVNnumbers) and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The proposed framework is composed of five activities, framework, criteria weighting, gathering information, rating alternatives and project selection. Project alternatives are rated based on aggregation operator and the ranking of alternatives is based on scoring and accuracy functions. The AHP method is included and allows a correct weighting of different criteria involved. Additionally the common decision resolution scheme for helping decision maker to reach a reliable decision is used giving methodological support t. A case study is developed showing the applicability of the proposal for information technologies project selection. Further works will concentrate in extending the proposal for group decision making and developing a software tool.

Book excerpt: Hausdorff distance is one of the important distance measures to study the degree of dissimilarity between two sets that had been used in various fields under fuzzy environments. Among those, the framework of single-valued neutrosophic sets (SVNSs) is the one that has more potential to explain uncertain, inconsistent and indeterminate information in a comprehensive way. And so, Hausdorff distance for SVNSs is important. Thus, we propose two novel schemes to calculate the Hausdorff distance and its corresponding similarity measures (SMs) for SVNSs. In doing so, we firstly develop the two forms of Hausdorff distance between SVNSs based on the definition of Hausdorff metric between two sets. We then use these new distance measures to construct several SMs for SVNSs. Some mathematical theorems regarding the proposed Hausdorff distances for SVNSs are also proven to strengthen its theoretical properties. In order to show the exact calculation behavior and distance measurement mechanism of our proposed methods in accordance with the decorum of Hausdorff metric, we utilize an intuitive numerical example that demonstrate the novelty and practicality of our proposed measures. Furthermore, we develop a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) method under single-valued neutrosophic environment using the proposed SMs based on our defined Hausdorff distance measures, called as a single-valued neutrosophic MCDM (SVN-MCDM) method. In this connection, we employ our proposed SMs to compute the degree of similarity of each option with the ideal choice to identify the best alternative as well as to perform an overall ranking of the alternatives under study. We then apply our proposed SVN-MCDM scheme to solve two real world problems of MCDM under single-valued neutrosophic environment to show its effectiveness and application.

A best-worst multi-criteria decision making method based on the single valued neutrosophic sets is proposed. To achieve this goal, we design an algorithm to identify the best andworst criteria through computing the outdegrees and in-degrees of the collective single valued neutrosophic preference relation directed network, and then calculate the optimal weight vector of attributes. Moreover, a mathematical model corresponding to the definitions of consistent single valued neutrosophic preference relation is contracted. Finaly, the evaluation values of all alternatives are calculated by the proposed new tangent similarity.

Notably, neutro-sophic theory has made substantial contributions by advancing and offering a range of aggregation operators and information measures specifically designed for enhancing decision-making processes. In this context, this study aims to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the current research landscape in the field of neutrosophic theory, with a specific focus on understanding its applications and development trends. Our analysis reveals that the scientific literature addresses neu-trosophic theory in a diverse range of applications. This examination encompasses a scrutiny of key contributors, affiliated academic institutions, influential publications, and noteworthy journals within the neutrosophic domain. To achieve this, we have curated a dataset comprising scholarly papers retrieved from Clarivate Analytics’ Web of Science Core Collection database, employing keywords closely aligned with neutrosophic theory and its applications, spanning a specified timeframe starting from the year in which the first paper on neutrosophic theory was published, namely, from 2005 until 2022. Our findings underscore sustained and robust scholarly interest in neutrosophic theory, charac-terized by a considerable high annual growth rate of 43.74% during the specified period. Additionally, our investigation delves into the identification and analysis of pivotal keywords and emerging trends, shedding light on prominent research trajectories within this domain. Furthermore, we elucidate collaborative networks among authors, their academic affiliations, and the global distribution across diverse countries and territories, providing valuable insights into the worldwide proliferation of neutrosophic research and applications. Employing n-gram analysis techniques across titles, key-words, abstracts, and keyword-plus fields unveils a multitude of applications where neutrosophic theory plays a central role. The analysis culminates in a review of globally cited documents and a comprehensive discussion highlighting the significance of neutrosophic theory in contemporary research and problem-solving contexts.

Book excerpt: The aim of this paper is to present a multiple-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) framework based on a new single-valued neutrosophic linguistic (SVNL) distance measure. By unifying the idea of the weighted average and ordered weighted averaging into a single-valued neutrosophic linguistic distance, we first developed a new SVNL weighted distance measure, namely a SVNL combined and weighted distance (SVNLCWD) measure. The focal characteristics of the devised SVNLCWD are its ability to combine both the decision-makers’ attitudes toward the importance, as well as the weights, of the arguments. Various desirable properties and families of the developed SVNLCWD were contemplated. Moreover, aMAGDMapproach based on the SVNLCWD was formulated. Lastly, a real numerical example concerning a low-carbon supplier selection problem was used to describe the superiority and feasibility of the developed approach.
