Download or read book Selected Works of George McCready Price written by Taylor & Francis Group and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2023-06-30 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1995, The Selected Works of George McCready Price is the seventh volume in the series, Creationism in Twentieth Century America, reissued in 2021. The volume brings together the original writings and pamphlets of George McCready Price, a leading creationist of the early antievolution crusade of the 1920s. McCready Price labelled himself the 'principal scientific authority of the Fundamentalists' and as a self-taught scientist he enjoyed more scientific repute amongst fundamentalists of the time. This interesting and unique collection of original source material includes five of his writings between 1906 and 1924, challenging the new Darwinian theory of evolution and natural selection through his writings on the natural sciences. His literature covers the topics of evolution and biology and critiques biological arguments for evolution. He also wrote widely on geology offering his own alternative argument of 'flood geography' in opposition to the Darwinian theory concerning palaeontology and geology. This volume will be of interest to historians of natural history and the creationism movement, as well as scholars of religion and American history.

Book A Critical Realist s Theological Method

Download or read book A Critical Realist s Theological Method written by Douglas W. Kennard and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-02-21 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Critical Realist's Theological Method explores a systematic theology method grounded in critical realism in the wake of Alister McGrath, Imre Lakatos, Nancey Murphy, N. T. Wright, and Dale Allison. Kennard surveys philosophical and traditional theological approaches for contributions and limitations in order to set out a method for theology and science. Kennard extends this method to a Thiselton-Ricoeur hermeneutic that can fund insightful exegesis and Biblical theology in the wake of Ladd, Dunn, Vos, and Goldingay. This Biblical theology method is illustrated by wisdom literature, the traditional reef of the discipline and then developed for the contributions toward systematic theology as Gabler had originally envisioned. With contextualized Scripture sourcing most of the content for systematic theology the trajectory is shown in the subtitle Returning the Bible and Biblical Theology to be the Framer for Theology and Science. The method is exampled in exegesis of creation texts which frame possibilities for science. Likewise, Biblical theology frames a bio-ethics integration of psychology and theology setting out a transactional model for psychological recovery with University of Chicago professor Paul Holmes. A theology for peer review and work is also framed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genesis is among the most controversial books of the Bible - facing increasing attacks on its credibility and its meaning within the modern Church as fashionable theories of intelligent design and progressive creationism gain support. Compromising the literal interpretation of Scripture to reconcile faith instead with faulty scientific reasoning on the history of the earth, many within the church are abandoning the very foundational truths of Christianity. Join Ron Bigalke Jr. and influential creationist leaders in discussing the myths and realities of Genesis. In The Genesis Factor you will: Unearth the historical roots of creationism in the church - from the apostle Paul and John, to the Venerable Bede, Martin Luther, John Calvin, Francis Bacon, Galileo, James Ussher, Issac Newton, and others. Learn of the 19th century controversy between leading geologists and the "scriptural geologists" in uncovering the foundations of the oft-contentious relationship of science to Christianity and the Scriptures. Read the Scriptural interpretations that answer the questions regarding the length of a Creation week day. Study point by point the recognized standards of writing history which Genesis 1-11 meet as literal history. This powerful and needed defense of Genesis includes contributors Henry M. Morris, Christopher Cone, Terry Mortenson, Eugene Merrill, Ron J. Bigalke Jr., Tas Walker, Jonathon Henry, Larry Vardiman, John Whitcomb, and Donald DeYoung. From fossil evidence, geologic evidence, and historic evidence, and more, The Genesis Factor reinforces the validity of the scriptural account of Creation, the Great Flood, and the Tower of Babel.

  • Author : Michael Lienesch
  • Publisher : Univ of North Carolina Press
  • Release : 2007-04-23
  • ISBN : 0807884006
  • Pages : 352 pages

Download or read book In the Beginning written by Michael Lienesch and published by Univ of North Carolina Press. This book was released on 2007-04-23 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current controversy over teaching evolution in the public schools has grabbed front-page headlines and topped news broadcasts all across the United States. In the Beginning investigates the movement that has ignited debate in state legislatures and at school board meetings. Reaching back to the origins of antievolutionism in the 1920s, and continuing to the promotion of intelligent design today, Michael Lienesch skillfully analyzes one of the most formidable political movements of the twentieth century. Applying extensive original sources and social movement theory, Lienesch begins with fundamentalism, describing how early twentieth-century fundamentalists worked to form a collective identity, to develop their own institutions, and to turn evolution from an idea into an issue. He traces the emerging antievolution movement through the 1920s, examining debates over Darwinism that took place on college campuses and in state legislatures throughout the country. With fresh insights and analysis, Lienesch retells the story of the 1925 Scopes "monkey" trial and reinterprets its meaning. In tracking the movement from that time to today, he explores the rise of creation science in the 1960s, the alliance with the New Christian Right in the 1980s, and the development of the theory of intelligent design in our own time. He concludes by speculating on its place in the politics of the twenty-first century. In the Beginning is essential for understanding the past, present, and future debates over the teaching of evolution.

Book excerpt: This collection of 447 annotated references provides an overview of the literature addressing the creation/evolution controversy for students, teachers, lawyers, writers, historians, scientists, sociologists, clerics, and other interested persons. Fifty-four annotations in the chapter on historical references highlight influential volumes published between 1543 and 1980--classic works that inform the views of later writers. These historical works are listed chronologically in order of publication. The remaining 393 entries feature books published from 1981 (the year of the "Scopes II" trial in Arkansas) to 1996, and include works that address historical, sociological, philosophical, religious, cosmological, geological, biological, and anthropological issues surrounding the creation/evolution controversy. The annotations are written in an informative, impartial style. Except for references in the chapter containing historical sources and in the chapter featuring works on the history of the creation/evolution controversy, references are grouped under "theistic" and "non-theistic" headings. An introductory essay describes the history of evolutionary theory and creationism, and defines the distinguishing features of each thought system.
