Novel analyses and often new diachronic data — also from less known and under-investigated languages — are provided to the debate on the principles, mechanisms, paths and models of language change, as well as the relationship between synchronic variation and diachrony. Book excerpt: This Special Issue of Energies has emerged as a result of the 1st International Conference on Nanofluids (https://icnf2019.com/), which was organized under the auspices of Nanouptake COST Action (Overcoming Barriers to Nanofluids Market Uptake, http://www.nanouptake.eu/) in Castelló (Spain), in June 2019. The foci of ICNf2019 were the production and the characterisation of nanofluids for different areas of applications in the energy fields, namely heat transfer, storage of thermal energy, boiling, and solar systems, as well as industrial applications and health and safety issues. The first conference edition on this topic gathered more than 200 participants from 45 different countries. More than 125 contributions were presented in the nine sections of the congress. Some selected authors were invited to send extended versions of their work to the Energies ICNf2019 Special Issue. After a careful review process, nine articles from six different countries were selected for compilation in this Special Issue: a total of seven full research papers and two reviews. These papers cover a broad range of fundamental and applied research aspects on nanofluid science and development, and reflect the current investigations, knowledge, and challenges encountered in the use of nanofluids for energy applications.

This is in sharp contrast to conventional technology, which can only be understood within the framework of classical mechanics. We are now in the middle of a second quantum revolution. Although quantum mechanics is nowadays a mature discipline, quantum engineering as a technology is now emerging in its own right. We are about to manipulate and sense individual particles, measuring and exploiting their quantum properties. This is bringing major technical advances in many different areas, including computing, sensors, simulations, cryptography and telecommunications. The present collection of selected papers is a clear demonstration of the tremendous vitality of the field. This book attempts to cover, as completely as possible, all the topics presented during the conference. The papers were accepted after a peer-review process based on their full text.

Book excerpt: In their contributions the authors reflect upon Levý’s thinking on translation as a communication process and on Popovič’s insistence on the importance of re-creating a text both at the surface and deep levels. Examples are drawn from literary translation, technical translation, from audio-visual translation and from interpreting, and the authors point out that translators in all domains inevitably come up against linguistic, textual and other constraints, which, if they are to be resolved successfully, call upon a translator’s and interpreter’s strategies and creativity. The authors argue that this is the essence of professional decision-making in translation — according to Levý translation is a decision-making process — and that translation teachers should help students develop an understanding of translation strategies and of the vital role that creativity plays throughout the translation/interpreting process.
