Book Numerical Approximation of Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Numerical Approximation of Partial Differential Equations written by E.L. Ortiz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1987-02-01 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This selection of papers is concerned with problems arising in the numerical solution of differential equations, with an emphasis on partial differential equations. There is a balance between theoretical studies of approximation processes, the analysis of specific numerical techniques and the discussion of their application to concrete problems relevant to engineering and science. Special consideration has been given to innovative numerical techniques and to the treatment of three-dimensional and singular problems. These topics are discussed in several of the invited papers. The contributed papers are divided into five parts: techniques of approximation theory which are basic to the numerical treatment of differential equations; numerical techniques based on discrete processes; innovative methods based on polynomial and rational approximation; variational inequalities, conformal transformation and asymptotic techniques; and applications of differential equations to problems in science and engineering.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication was made possible through a bequest from my beloved late wife. United together in this present collection are those works by the author which have not previously appeared in book form. The following are excepted: Vorlesungen uber Differential und Integralrechnung (Lectures on Differential and Integral Calculus) Vols 1-3, Birkhauser Verlag, Basel (1965-1968); Aufgabensammlung zur Infinitesimalrechnung (Exercises in Infinitesimal Calculus) Vols 1, 2a, 2b, and 3, Birkhauser Verlag, Basel (1967-1977); two issues from Memorial des Sciences on Conformal Mapping (written together with C. Gattegno), Gauthier-Villars, Paris (1949); Solution of Equations in Euc1idean and Banach Spaces, Academic Press, New York (1973); and Stu dien uber den Schottkyschen Satz (Studies on Schottky's Theorem), Wepf & Co., Basel (1931). Where corrections have had to be implemented in the text of certain papers, references to these are made at the conc1usion of each paper. In the few instances where this system does not, for technical reasons, seem appropriate, an asterisk in the page margin indicates wherever a correction is necessary and this is then given at the end of the paper. (There is one exception: the correc tions to the paper on page 561 are presented on page 722. The works are published in 6 volumes and are arranged under 16 topic headings. Within each heading, the papers are ordered chronologically according to the date of original publication."

Book Infinite Matrices and Their Recent Applications

Download or read book Infinite Matrices and Their Recent Applications written by P.N. Shivakumar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-20 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph covers the theory of finite and infinite matrices over the fields of real numbers, complex numbers and over quaternions. Emphasizing topics such as sections or truncations and their relationship to the linear operator theory on certain specific separable and sequence spaces, the authors explore techniques like conformal mapping, iterations and truncations that are used to derive precise estimates in some cases and explicit lower and upper bounds for solutions in the other cases. Most of the matrices considered in this monograph have typically special structures like being diagonally dominated or tridiagonal, possess certain sign distributions and are frequently nonsingular. Such matrices arise, for instance, from solution methods for elliptic partial differential equations. The authors focus on both theoretical and computational aspects concerning infinite linear algebraic equations, differential systems and infinite linear programming, among others. Additionally, the authors cover topics such as Bessel’s and Mathieu’s equations, viscous fluid flow in doubly connected regions, digital circuit dynamics and eigenvalues of the Laplacian.

Book Handbook of Complex Analysis

Download or read book Handbook of Complex Analysis written by Reiner Kuhnau and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-12-09 with total page 876 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geometric Function Theory is that part of Complex Analysis which covers the theory of conformal and quasiconformal mappings. Beginning with the classical Riemann mapping theorem, there is a lot of existence theorems for canonical conformal mappings. On the other side there is an extensive theory of qualitative properties of conformal and quasiconformal mappings, concerning mainly a prior estimates, so called distortion theorems (including the Bieberbach conjecture with the proof of the Branges). Here a starting point was the classical Scharz lemma, and then Koebe's distortion theorem. There are several connections to mathematical physics, because of the relations to potential theory (in the plane). The Handbook of Geometric Function Theory contains also an article about constructive methods and further a Bibliography including applications eg: to electroxtatic problems, heat conduction, potential flows (in the plane). · A collection of independent survey articles in the field of GeometricFunction Theory · Existence theorems and qualitative properties of conformal and quasiconformal mappings · A bibliography, including many hints to applications in electrostatics, heat conduction, potential flows (in the plane).

Book Numerical Analysis

Download or read book Numerical Analysis written by R. Teman and published by Springer. This book was released on 1973-09-30 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to one of the important as pects of Numerical Analysis, namely the approximate solution of functional equations. We intend to show, by a few brief examples, the different theoretical and practical problems related to the numerical approximation of boundary value problems. We have chosen for this the approximate solution of certain linear elliptic partial differential equations (the first two parts of the book) and the approximate solution of a nonlinear elliptic differential equation. This book is not a systematic study of the subject, but the methods developed here can be applied to large classes of linear and nonlinear elliptic problems. The book assumes that the reader's knowledge of Anal ysis is comparable to what is taught in the first years of graduate studies. This means a good knowledge of Hilbert spaces, elements of measure theory and theory of distributions. The subject matter of the book covers the usual content of a first course on Numerical Analysis of partial differential equations.

Book Meshfree Methods for Partial Differential Equations IX
