Book Seldom Heard Quotes

Download or read book Seldom Heard Quotes written by C Howard Diaz and published by . This book was released on 2024-04-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I originally came up with the idea for this short coff ee table book of quotes back in 1993. I fi led the quotes and commented on each one myself or added another person's writing for a few. Most comments are mine. I made copies and sent a shorter version to people I knew who would appreciate it. I have cited almost all the quotes, and anything I say in the comments is my opinion, whether it is cited or not. If you disagree with anything I say, you take the time to fi nd your argument, I already satisfi ed my search for the answers over the 86 years of my life. You will notice the same sentence, statistic, or thought repeated in a few places. That's not a mistake; it is a point relevant to the quote I'm commenting on. I'm publishing it today, 2023, and I decided not to re-write it. While I did tweak it a bit, everything I said back then still applies today, and that's what makes it so interesting to me. These words were said, and most of you never heard it when it was said. The old saying about knowing our history is often attributed to the philosopher George Santayana and goes as follows: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." This book will take you to a time when the environmental, anti-population, anti-logging, and anti-nuclear gang were just getting started. They said things that will shock you. And you need to be shocked. Just keep it on your coff ee table. When there is a lull in the conversation turn to any page. The conversation will warm up

Book excerpt: Seldom Heard is a collection of stories from modern cattlemen (all characters) who have shared vignettes about their ancestors, ranches and their lives on the range. Includes 26 easy to read essays of Southern Texas ranches, many of which date back 100 years in the same family. Includes two of the biggest ranches in Texas –East Family Ranches, and Killam Family Ranches. To go ranch hopping through the great ranches of South Texas is an experience worth having. Dian Malouf knows the old-timers who inhabit them. Her book—Seldom Heard—is an easy read through 26 essays of ranches, many of which date back 100 years in the same family. Some of these vast spreads top 360,000 acres. Don’t miss this book of authentic people who restore your faith in a world overrun by television facelifts and trivial pursuit of rock stars. These rancher’s idiosyncrasies are abundant and amusing, and Dian reveals them with surprise and humor. This is a Texas that may be devoured by urban society in the next 25 years, so meet them while you can. The likes of this authentic and stubborn society of individuals is worth knowing before they leave us.

Book Narratives and Reflections in Music Education

Download or read book Narratives and Reflections in Music Education written by Tawnya D. Smith and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-03 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers chapters written by some of the most respected narrative and qualitative inquiry writers in the field of music education. The authorship and scope are international, and the chapters advance the philosophical, theoretical, and methodological bases of narrative inquiry in music education and the arts. The book contains two sections, each with a specific aim. The first is to continue and expand upon dialogue regarding narrative inquiry in music education, emphasizing how narrative involves the art of listening to and hearing others whose voices are often unheard. The chapters invite music teachers and scholars to experience and confront music education stories from multiple perspectives and worldviews, inviting an international readership to engage in critical dialogue with and about marginalized voices in music. The second section focuses on ways in which narrative might be represented beyond the printed page, such as with music, film, photography, and performative pieces. This section includes philosophical discussions about arts-based and aesthetic inquiry, as well as examples of such work.
