Download or read book Seismic Geomorphology written by R. J. Davies and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2007 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are poised to embark on a new era of discovery in the study of geomorphology. The discipline has a long and illustrious history, but in recent years an entirely new way of studying landscapes and seascapes has been developed. It involves the use of 3D seismic data. Just as CAT scans allow medical staff to view our anatomy in 3D, seismic data now allows Earth scientists to do what the early geomorphologists could only dream of - view tens and hundreds of square kilometres of the Earth's subsurface in 3D and therefore see for the first time how landscapes have evolved through time. This volume demonstrates how Earth scientists are starting to use this relatively new tool to study the dynamic evolution of a range of sedimentary environments.

Book Sequence Stratigraphy in Offshore South African Divergent Basins

Download or read book Sequence Stratigraphy in Offshore South African Divergent Basins written by Leonard Franklin Brown and published by AAPG. This book was released on 1995 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the result of an offshore exploration and drilling programme by Soekor (Pty) Ltd in the Republic of South Africa beginning in 1987. Seismic stratigraphic data and borehole information were incorporated and released in what was one of the first detailed and comprehensive published examples of the new field of sequence stratigraphy. The project was conducted over a South African offshore area of 175,000 square kilometres, in the Pletmos, Bredasdorp, and Orange basins, which are examples of divergent basins associated with the breakup of Gondwana.

Book The Geology of Fluvial Deposits

Download or read book The Geology of Fluvial Deposits written by Andrew D. Miall and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 589 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluvial deposits represent the preserved record of one of the major nonmarine environ ments. They accumulate in large and small intermontane valleys, in the broad valleys of trunk rivers, in the wedges of alluvial fans flanking areas of uplift, in the outwash plains fronting melting glaciers, and in coastal plains. The nature of alluvial assemblages - their lithofacies composition, vertical stratigraphic record, and architecture - reflect an inter play of many processes, from the wandering of individual channels across a floodplain, to the long-term effects of uplift and subsidence. Fluvial deposits are a sensitive indicator of tectonic processes, and also carry subtle signatures of the climate at the time of deposition. They are the hosts for many petroleum and mineral deposits. This book is about all these subjects. The first part of the book, following a historical introduction, constructs the strati graphic framework of fluvial deposits, step by step, starting with lithofacies, combining these into architectural elements and other facies associations, and then showing how these, in turn, combine to represent distinctive fluvial styles. Next, the discussion turns to problems of correlation and the building of large-scale stratigraphic frameworks. These basin-scale constructions form the basis for a discussion of causes and processes, including autogenic processes of channel shifting and cyclicity, and the larger questions of allogenic (tectonic, eustatic, and climatic) sedimentary controls and the development of our ideas about nonmarine sequence stratigraphy.

Book Seismic and Stratigraphic Interpretation of the Candace Terrace and Preston Shelf Northern Carnarvon Basin Western Australia

Download or read book Seismic and Stratigraphic Interpretation of the Candace Terrace and Preston Shelf Northern Carnarvon Basin Western Australia written by Daniel Aaron Mack and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hydrocarbon prospects of the Triassic sequence of the Candace Terrace and Southwestern Preston Shelf (the eastern margin of the Barrow Sub-basin of the North West Shelf - W.A.) were investigated chiefly by seismic interpretation. The potential of the Triassic has been established in the Carnarvon Basin. There is incentive for further exploration of shelf areas following recent discoveries.

Book Gippsland Basin 2D Infill 2015 Marine Seismic Survey GA0352

Download or read book Gippsland Basin 2D Infill 2015 Marine Seismic Survey GA0352 written by C. H. Mitchell and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Australian Government, through the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, routinely funds Geoscience Australia to acquire pre-competitive data to support prospectivity assessments of various offshore basins. As part of the Australian Government's National CO2 Infrastructure Plan (Carbon Storage Taskforce 2009), a marine seismic reflection survey, Gippsland Basin Infill 2D Marine Seismic Survey - GA0352, was undertaken in the offshore southern margin of the Gippsland Basin to investigate potential sites suitable for CO2 geological storage."--Online abstract.

Book Exploring for the Future

Download or read book Exploring for the Future written by L. K. Carr and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Exploring for the Future (EFTF) is a four year $100.5 million initiative by the Australian Government that aims to boost northern Australia's attractiveness as a destination for investment in resource exploration. As part of this program, Geoscience Australia has been tasked with gathering new pre-competitive data and information concerning potential mineral, energy and groundwater resources concealed beneath the surface, on an unprecedented scale. To ensure the program has the greatest impact Geoscience Australia will use innovative techniques in greenfield areas where the resource potential is completely unknown at a semi-continental scale. A major EFTF output is the acquisition of deep crustal seismic reflection data. The first tranche of this was completed in early August 2017 in the region between the southern McArthur Basin to the Mt Isa western succession, crossing the South Nicholson Basin and Murphy Province. Prior to this survey, the region contained no seismic data and minimal well data."--Online abstract
