Book Seismic Interpretation and Reservoir Characterization of the Middle Frio Formation in the Stratton Field Gulf Coast Basin of South Texas Using Three dimensional Seismic and Well Log Data

Download or read book Seismic Interpretation and Reservoir Characterization of the Middle Frio Formation in the Stratton Field Gulf Coast Basin of South Texas Using Three dimensional Seismic and Well Log Data written by Uchenna Henry Aboaja and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Stratton field is a large mature gas field located between Nueces County and Kleberg County in the northwest Gulf Coast Basin of south Texas. The Oligocene middle Frio Formation is one of the major progradational units within the Stratton field. It is characterized by rapid deposition and high subsidence rates that create complex internal facies architecture. The reservoir facies architecture of the middle Frio Formation is described as channel-fill deposits, crevasses-splay deposits, and floodplain mudstones. Previous two-dimensional seismic studies indicate some level of compartmentalization. Three-dimensional seismic and well log data provided by the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas at Austin were utilized to identify by-passed, untapped, incompletely drained, and new infield reserves. North-South trending features were observed within the basal middle Frio Formations, and are interpreted as residual effects from the deeper Vicksburg Faults. Correlation of the traced horizons and well log data revealed two structural highs in the C-38 time structure map that also appear as high amplitude corresponding to the presence of gas in the reservoir. Two structural closures described as Prospect A and Prospect B were evaluated. For Prospect A, volumetric calculations gave an in-place gas reserves of 501 mmcf and recoverable gas reserves of 351 mmcf. For Prospect B, they yielded an in-place gas reserves of 487 mmcf and recoverable gas reserves of 341 mmcf. At the current price of $4.75/MMBtu, the total value of recoverable gas from both Prospects A and B is $3.29 million"--Abstract, leaf iii.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are poised to embark on a new era of discovery in the study of geomorphology. The discipline has a long and illustrious history, but in recent years an entirely new way of studying landscapes and seascapes has been developed. It involves the use of 3D seismic data. Just as CAT scans allow medical staff to view our anatomy in 3D, seismic data now allows Earth scientists to do what the early geomorphologists could only dream of - view tens and hundreds of square kilometres of the Earth's subsurface in 3D and therefore see for the first time how landscapes have evolved through time. This volume demonstrates how Earth scientists are starting to use this relatively new tool to study the dynamic evolution of a range of sedimentary environments.

Book Stratigraphic Reservoir Characterization for Petroleum Geologists Geophysicists and Engineers

Download or read book Stratigraphic Reservoir Characterization for Petroleum Geologists Geophysicists and Engineers written by Roger M. Slatt and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many tools and techniques for characterizing oil and gas reservoirs. Seismic-reflection techniques include conventional 2D and 3D seismic, 4D time-lapse seismic, multicomponent seismic, crosswell seismic, seismic inversion, and seismic attribute analysis, all designed to enhance stratigraphy/structure detection, resolution, and characterization. These techniques are constantly being improved. Drilling and coring a well provides the “ground truth” for seismic interpretation. Rock formations are directly sampled by cuttings and by core and indirectly characterized with a variety of conventional and specialized well logs. To maximize characterization and optimize production, many of these tools as possible should be employed. It is often less expensive to utilize a wide variety of tools that directly image or measure reservoir properties at different scales than to drill one or two dry holes.

Book 3D Seismic Data Interpretation of Boonsville Field Texas

Download or read book 3D Seismic Data Interpretation of Boonsville Field Texas written by Aamer Ali Alhakeem and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Boonsville field is one of the largest gas fields in the US located in the Fort Worth Basin, north central Texas. The highest potential reservoirs reside in the Bend Conglomerate deposited during the Pennsylvanian. The Boonsville data set is prepared by the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas, Austin, as part of the secondary gas recovery program. The Boonsville field seismic data set covers an area of 5.5 mi2. It includes 38 wells data. The Bend Conglomerate is deposited in fluvio-deltaic transaction. It is subdivided into many genetic sequences which include depositions of sandy conglomerate representing the potential reserves in the Boonsville field. The geologic structure of the Boonsville field subsurface are visualized by constructing structure maps of Caddo, Davis, Runaway, Beans Cr, Vineyard, and Wade. The mapping includes time structure, depth structure, horizon slice, velocity maps, and isopach maps. Many anticlines and folds are illustrated. Karst collapse features are indicated specially in the lower Atoka. Dipping direction of the Bend Conglomerate horizons are changing from dipping toward north at the top to dipping toward east at the bottom. Stratigraphic interpretation of the Runaway Formation and the Vineyard Formation using well logs and seismic data integration showed presence of fluvial dominated channels, point bars, and a mouth bar. RMS amplitude maps are generated and used as direct hydrocarbon indicator for the targeted formations. As a result, bright spots are indicated and used to identify potential reservoirs. Petrophysical analysis is conducted to obtain gross, net pay, NGR, water saturation, shale volume, porosity, and gas formation factor. Volumetric calculations estimated 989.44 MMSCF as the recoverable original gas in-place for a prospect in the Runaway and 3.32 BSCF for a prospect in the Vineyard Formation"--Abstract, page iii.

Book Depositional Setting Structural Style and Sandstone Distribution in Three Geopressured Geothermal Areas Texas Gulf Coast

Download or read book Depositional Setting Structural Style and Sandstone Distribution in Three Geopressured Geothermal Areas Texas Gulf Coast written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three areas in the Texas Gulf Coastal Plain were studied using electric logs and seismic-reflection data to interpret their depositional and structural history and to compare their potential as geopressured-geothermal reservoirs. The Cuero study area, on the lower Wilcox (upper Paleocene) growth-fault trend, is characterized by closely and evenly spaced, subparallel, down-to-the-basin growth faults, relatively small expansion ratios, and minor block rotation. Distributary-channel sandstones in the geopressured lower Wilcox Group of the South Cook fault block appear to be the best geothermal aquifers in the Cuero area. The Blessing study area, on the lower Frio (Oligocene) growth-fault trend, shows wider and more variable fault spacing and much greater expansion ratios and block rotation, particularly during early Frio time. Thick geopressured sandstone aquifers are laterally more extensive in the Blessing area than in the Cuero area. The Pleasant Bayou study area, like the Blessing area, is on the Frio growth-fault trand, and its early structural development was similar rapid movement of widely spaced faults resulted in large expansion ratios and major block rotation. However, a late-stage pattern of salt uplift and withdrawal complicated the structural style. Thick geopressured lower Frio sandstone aquifers are highly permeable and laterally extensive, as in the Blessing area. In all three areas, geopressured aquifers were created where early, rapid movement along down-to-the-basin growth faults juxtaposed shallow-water sands against older shales, probably deposited in slope environments. Major transgressions followed the deposition of reservoir sands and probably also influenced the hydraulic isolation that allowed the build up of abnormal pressures. 26 refs., 49 figs., 8 tabs.

Book Seismic Attribute Assisted Depositional Facies Identification and Stratigraphic Correlation in the Central Gulf Coast Region of Texas

Download or read book Seismic Attribute Assisted Depositional Facies Identification and Stratigraphic Correlation in the Central Gulf Coast Region of Texas written by Yani Lin and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The sandstone deposits in the fluvial-dominated delta systems in the Lower Wilcox Group above the Cretaceous carbonate shelf edges of the Texas Gulf Coast Region are considered as high exploration potential reservoir bodies. However, the multi-phase regression and transgression during the late Paleocene to the early Eocene complicate the local depositional structure. The depositional facies is hard to be identified in details using the traditional seismic stratigraphic interpretation method. Seismic attributes are effective in detecting depositional facies, especially in mapping channels and investigating reservoir characteristics. In this study, we utilize seismic attributes to identify the principal depositional facies in the delta front environment. The major selected attributes are root mean square (RMS) amplitude, instantaneous phase, waveform classification, and spectral decomposition. The stratal slicing technology is utilized to better image the complex depositional systems. The lateral variations of depositional facies inside the canyon-fill sequence are further recognized by stratigraphic correlation from the well log data. After integrating the seismic attributes with stratigraphic correlation, we successfully identify the underwater distributary channels, the channel-margin levee, the debris fan deposits, and the mounded turbidite lobes in the incised canyon system. Identification of such depositional facies provides a significant constraint on predicting the distribution of the reservoir sand. We speculate that the potential reservoirs mainly exist in the vicinity of the canyon mouth, and the sandstones sliding along underwater channels inside the canyon system also have high exploration potential"--Abstract, page iv.
