Nuestra dependencia de las TIC (Tecnologías de la Información y las Comunicaciones) resulta incuestionable tanto desde una perspectiva personal como profesional, siendo patente el creciente alcance de Internet para con nuestra economía y el impacto de las redes sociales más allá de las relaciones individuales. Podemos decir sin temor a equivocarnos que la revolución tecnológica de las TIC está suponiendo (en las últimas décadas y también en las próximas) la mayor revolución social hasta la historia acaecida. Las enormes ventajas y beneficios de las TIC llevan aparejados, sin embargo, problemas que no pueden ser obviados si queremos que la tecnología esté a nuestro servicio, y no al contrario. En este momento en el que nuestra vida se está traduciendo a conjuntos de datos y volúmenes de información, uno de los grandes retos de obligada atención por parte de la tecnología es la provisión de seguridad, o ciberseguridad (por referirnos al contexto informático). Este concepto se refiere a la protección de los activos que conforman una organización: instalaciones, personas, hardware, software, línea de negocio, etc. Aunque, como vemos, se trata de un objetivo enorme y, en consecuencia, de no fácil consecución, debe ser convenientemente atendido por todos los actores implicados (profesionales expertos, responsables de organización y usuarios finales) en aras de garantizar la necesaria confiabilidad en la nueva sociedad tecnológica. La relevancia del asunto queda patente a través de las numerosas actuaciones que, tanto a nivel nacional como internacional, se han puesto en marcha en los últimos años por gobiernos e instituciones de todo el mundo en pro de la mejora de la seguridad en redes y servicios. Es en este marco de intensa actividad en el que debe entenderse el presente texto, cuyo objetivo es formar a estudiantes y profesionales del sector TIC en el altamente demandado perfil laboral de la ciberseguridad. Así, aunque este ámbito formativo comienza a ser reconocido como de alto interés (véase informe al respecto de ACM/IEEE/AIS SIGSEC/IFIP en 2017 ), son numerosos los estudios de empresas y organismos de seguridad de todo el mundo que continúan apuntando un déficit de cientos de miles o incluso millones de profesionales especializados en ciberseguridad para los próximos años. La orientación de este texto es triple. Por una parte, es de naturaleza introductoria por cuanto que pretende ofrecer una visión suficientemente global y completa de la ciberseguridad como para entender el contexto y la problemática asociada desde las diferentes perspectivas que lo conforman. Por otro lado, aborda en cierta profundidad cada uno de los aspectos discutidos, de manera que, sin pretender ser especializado en ningún ámbito concreto, sí persigue ofrecer de forma adecuada las claves principales de cada aspecto tratado a fin de servir como punto avanzado para poder abundar sin demasiadas dificultades en el mismo, quienes así lo deseen. Finalmente, y en consonancia con la temática abordada, el texto tiene una orientación aplicada a través de la inclusión de propuestas concretas de desarrollos prácticos que permitan abundar al lector en los contenidos abordados.

Histories of major technological innovations show that often the creative initiative of users and user communities becomes the determining factor in the evolution of particular innovations. The evolutionary routes of the telephone, the Internet, the World Wide Web, email, and the Linux operating system all took their developers by surprise. Articulation of these technologies as meaningful products and systems was made possible by innovative users and unintended resources. Iterative and interactive models have replaced the traditional linear model of innovation during the last decade. Yet, heroic innovators and entrepreneurs, unambiguous functionality of products, and a focus on the up-stream aspects of innovation still underlie much discussion on innovation, intellectual property rights, technology policy, and product development. Coherent conceptual, theoretical and practical conclusions from research on knowledge creation, theory of learning, history of technology, and the social basis of innovative change have rarely been made. This book argues that innovation is about creating meaning; that it is inherently social; and is grounded in existing social practices. To understand the social basis of innovation and technology development we have to move beyond the traditional product-centric view on innovations. Integrating concepts from several disciplinary perspectives and detailed analyses of the evolution of Internet-related innovations, including packet-switched computer networks, World Wide Web, and the Linux open source operating system, the book develops foundations for a new theoretical and practical understanding of innovation. For example, it shows that innovative development can occur in two qualitatively different ways, one based on evolving specialization and the other based on recombination of existing socially produced resources. The expanding communication and collaboration networks have increased the importance of the recombinatory mode making mobility of resources, sociotechnical translation mechanisms, and meaning creation in communities of practice increasingly important for innovation research and product development.
