Aun así, las desigualdades de sexo y género en este ámbito siguen siendo importantes. Estas desigualdades son mayores, si cabe, en el ámbito del deporte profesional. Esta obra trata de analizar, desde una perspectiva eminentemente jurídica, la actual situación de la mujer deportista profesional respecto a su homólogo masculino, para lo cual analiza la situación de este colectivo, tanto en la práctica del deporte aficionado como profesional, así como de los estereotipos de género que, hoy en día, se mantienen con fuerza en este ámbito. Todo ello, con el objetivo de observar el impacto que dicha situación tiene en el ámbito laboral y en los derechos laborales de las deportistas profesionales; especialmente, en lo referido a la desigualdad retributiva; cuestión a la que se dedica buena parte de esta obra. El análisis de la cuestión se realiza con una mirada crítica, procurando ofrecer datos y analizar normativa y jurisprudencia desde la propia óptica y especialidad del deporte profesional, con el fin de plantear aquellas cuestiones más controvertidas en la materia y facilitar información que permita avanzar en pro de la igualdad de trato en este sector productivo que, como se ha visto en los últimos tiempos, tanto impacto tiene en nuestra sociedad.
