Book excerpt: Carlos Castaneda is one of the most widely read authors in history. And the twelve books he has written tell us about his unique experiences with don Juan Matus, an Indian shaman sage he once apprenticed. However, the extraordinarily profound subjects described by Castaneda have not to this day been fully understood, and they still stand as a raw material. So, the sole purpose of this book is to process this raw material and reveal the true meaning of what Castaneda speaks of in his books. On the other hand, this is not only a book of "What did Castaneda actually mean?" It analyzes what he has written in a simple and understandable manner, as it has never before been done, even moving to an upper level to reveal it is actually a sort of "science". Therefore, just like the "science of matter", it is also a kind of science. And considering the importance of the creation of all things in this universe as polar twins by God Almighty, this science also claims its place in this universe as the opposite twin of modern science, forming the other side of the coin. God Almighty allows the flourishing of the "Science of Seers" in an isolated place such as Central America, far away from the "Known World". Then, by sending an anthropologist there such as Castaneda, He enables all this information to make an appearance on the stage of history. This information becoming known through Castaneda, also makes it possible for us to carry out a cross-check of the science of matter. Although the science of matter and the science of seers are poles apart, there is a common ground where they meet: to reject the religion and God Almighty as its Owner. Even though their backgrounds are completely different from each other, these two sciences deny the religion. But at the same time, they also refuse to acknowledge each other, and both claim to be "the only truth". On the other hand, don Juan states, "Our minds can only be a witness to this universe, having nothing to say about it." Therefore, each of these two sciences actually takes the stand as a witness to this universe. And the Almighty God, "who taught man what he did not know," manifests to us the true nature of the things they bear witness to. Thus, while explaining the collection of knowledge revealed by the "seers", this book also places it safely on a cornerstone and explains it in the light of the Koran. Because the Koran not only clarifies many arguments used by the seers, but also displays that God Almighty is their real Owner. On the other hand, just like the scientists, the seers also suggest that their knowledge is the one and only, which is not the case. Because God Almighty reveals their knowledge and much more to us in the Holy Koran. Therefore, this book also contains information about Islam, and in fact, shows us that it is something very different from what is described on televisions and newspapers. Moreover, it speaks of the Prophets as Jesus and Moses mentioned in the Koran while making references to the seers.

This book was released on 2022-09-15 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume offers from the classic pages of Chalres Darwin's works, including his summary of the argument of "The Origin of Species," his account of how that book came to be written, and his recapitulation of "The Descent of Man." All this affords a supreme lesson as to the value of observation with a purpose. When Darwin was confronted with an organ or trait which puzzled him, he was wont to ask, What use can it have had? And always the answer was that every new peculiarity of plant, or beast, is seized upon and held whenever it confers advantage in the unceasing conflict for place and food. No hue of scale or plume, no curve of beak or note of song, but has served a purpose in the plot of life, or advanced the action in a drama where the penalty for failure is extinction. Aside from Darwin, the book also features essays written by Alfred R. Wallace, Thomas H. Huxley, Leland O. Howard, and George Iles

Book A Plague of Rats and Rubbervines

Download or read book A Plague of Rats and Rubbervines written by Yvonne Baskin and published by Island Press. This book was released on 2013-04-15 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human love of novelty and desire to make one place look like another, coupled with massive increases in global trade and transport, are creating a growing economic and ecological threat. The same forces that are rapidly "McDonaldizing" the world's diverse cultures are also driving us toward an era of monotonous, weedy, and uniformly impoverished landscapes. Unique plant and animal communities are slowly succumbing to the world's "rats and rubbervines" -- animals like zebra mussels and feral pigs, and plants like kudzu and water hyacinth -- that, once moved into new territory, can disrupt human enterprise and well-being as well as native habitats and biodiversity. From songbird-eating snakes in Guam to cheatgrass in the Great Plains, "invasives" are wreaking havoc around the world. In A Plague of Rats and Rubbervines, widely published science writer Yvonne Baskin draws on extensive research to provide an engaging and authoritative overview of the problem of harmful invasive alien species. She takes the reader on a worldwide tour of grasslands, gardens, waterways, and forests, describing the troubles caused by exotic organisms that run amok in new settings and examining how commerce and travel on an increasingly connected planet are exacerbating this oldest of human-created problems. She offers examples of potential solutions and profiles dedicated individuals worldwide who are working tirelessly to protect the places and creatures they love. While our attention is quick to focus on purposeful attempts to disrupt our lives and economies by releasing harmful biological agents, we often ignore equally serious but much more insidious threats, those that we inadvertently cause by our own seemingly harmless actions. A Plague of Rats and Rubbervines takes a compelling look at this underappreciated problem and sets forth positive suggestions for what we as consumers, gardeners, travelers, nurserymen, fishermen, pet owners, business people -- indeed all of us who by our very local choices drive global commerce -- can do to help. Leesie possesses the power to travel into layers of memory manipulating her conquests as directed by the clandestine organization of Seers and her enigmatic preceptor, Tobias. When challenged by her latest mission, Leesie will be left questioning where her true loyalty lies. Why is it suddenly difficult to obtain the information she needs? Book Searchers Seers and Shakers

Download or read book Searchers Seers and Shakers written by James A. Schellenberg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-28 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume offers intellectual portraits of eleven giants of the modern social sciences. It is bound by two central themes. The first is that there is a fundamental unity behind the various forms of social science. There is a general social science as well as a variety of social science disciplines. The second theme is that a biographical approach is a useful tool for making clear some of the central ideas of social science. By looking at the lives and achievements of selected masters, we should be better able to understand the fundamental nature (or natures) of social science. In order to determine which figures should be regarded as masters Schellenberg defines the three main kinds of work he sees as central for social science. First is the work of basic discovery done by searchers who made especially important contributions to empirical work in the social sciences. The persons he selected for special treatment here are Louis Leakey, Mary Leakey, Margaret Mead, and B. F. Skinner. He then considers the work of theory, choosing for examination seers who had made especially important theoretical contributions: John Dewey, Talcott Parsons, and Kenneth Boulding.Schellenberg next examines those social scientists who worked to seek changes in society. These were the shakers or social reformers. In Schellenberg's view these come in three main subtypes, and he sought to include at least one example of each--Gunnar Myrdal and Alva Myrdal as social engineers, C. Wright Mills as a rebellious social critic, and Daniel Patrick Moynihan as one whose contribution was made more directly into the world of politics.Schellenberg's exploration of the lives of these eleven masters of twentieth-century social science reveals many surprises and ironies. While he points out major contributions, he also has felt free to make criticisms. As he has said: These were all real persons, with failings and foibles, as well as persons of great achievement. I felt that the examination of

Book excerpt: A seer is someone who can straddle two worlds at once: the everyday reality of our physical senses and "non-ordinary" perception-the intuitions, messages, and visions that come to us, seemingly out of nowhere, to provide deeper understandings of ourselves and others. Dr. Nelson, who began his career in neuroscience, has known the world of non-ordinary reality since he was eight, when the sudden, traumatic death of a family member propelled him into a series of dramatic encounters that set him on a lifelong quest to understand the workings of consciousness. He started that exploration by studying the brain, but then a sequence of fateful events led him to London and a woman who would teach him another way to explore human awareness-through the mysterious and complex world of the seer. This book is the story of his adventure-filled journey from scientist to seer, from brain researcher to an expert on human awareness and a "doctor of the soul." Filled with stories of extraordinary events and episodes of seeing, and drawing on sources as varied as neurophysiology, Buddhist philosophy, and consciousness studies, it seeks to reveal the role of attention in paranormal perception as well as resolve the conflict between science and the non-ordinary in ways that do justice to both. Ultimately, Dr. Nelson discovers that it is possible to live simultaneously in two worlds, to be both a scientist and a seer.
