Book Seepage Analysis and Control for Dams Change 1

Download or read book Seepage Analysis and Control for Dams Change 1 written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual presents the fundamental design principles and guidance concerning seepage considerations for design of new dams and the evaluation of existing projects. All earth and rock-fill dams are subject to seepage through the embankment, foundation, and abutments. Concrete gravity and arch dams are subject to seepage through the foundation and abutments. Seepage control is necessary to prevent excessive uplift pressures, sloughing of the downstream slope, piping through the embankment and foundation, and erosion of material by loss into open joints in the foundation and abutments. The purpose of the project, i.e., long-term storage, flood control, etc., may impose limitations on the allowable quantity of seepage.

Book Geotechnical Engineering of Dams

Download or read book Geotechnical Engineering of Dams written by Robin Fell and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-11-21 with total page 1374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive text on the geotechnical and geological aspects of the investigations for and the design and construction of new dams and the review and assessment of existing dams. The book provides dam engineers and geologists with a practical approach, and gives university students an insight into the subject of dam engineering. All phases of investigation, design and construction are covered, through to the preliminary and detailed design phases and ultimately the construction phase. This revised and expanded 2nd edition includes a lengthy new chapter on the assessment of the likelihood of failure of dams by internal erosion and piping.

Book Seepage and Leakage from Dams and Impoundments

Download or read book Seepage and Leakage from Dams and Impoundments written by Richard L. Volpe and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Darcy's Law has been used by civil engineers for problems involving saturated flow, especially for the design of water retention dams. There has been a class of problems that deal with partially saturated leakage from waste impoundments has evolved. This can pose environmental hazards if the leachate is toxic, and is not collected and treated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by civil engineers, dam safety officials, dam owners, geologists, hydraulic engineers, and risk analysts, this handbook is the first cooperative attempt to provide practical solutions to dam problems within the financial constraints faced by dam owners. It provides hands-on information for identifying and remedying common defects in concrete and masonry dams, embankment dams, reservoirs, and related structures. It also includes procedures for monitoring dams and collecting and analyzing data. Case histories demonstrate economical solutions to specific problems.
