Book Norwegian Gas Sales and the Impacts on European Co2

Download or read book Norwegian Gas Sales and the Impacts on European Co2 written by Elin Berg and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper studies the impacts on Western European CO2 emissions of a reduction in Norwegian gas sales. Such impacts are due to changes in energy demand, energy supply, and environmental and political regulations. The gas supply model DYNOPOLY is used to analyse the effects on Russian and Algerian gas exports of a reduction in Norwegian gas supply. The effects on the demand side and the effects of committing to CO2 targets are analysed using the energy demand model SEEM. If Western European countries commit to their announced CO2 emissions targets, reduced Norwegian gas sales have no impact on emissions. The consumption of oil and coal will increase slightly, while total energy consumption will go down. Also, a reduction in Norwegian gas sales have only minor impacts on the CO2 emissions from Western Europe when no emissions regulations are considered.

Book The European Energy Challenge

Download or read book The European Energy Challenge written by George Walter Hoffman and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 1985 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By examining all of Europe in a single study, an eminent geographer and expert on European development makes, in this volume, a unique contribution to the understanding of the changing energy relations of the European countries, east and west. The book examines the problem of establishing a reliable energy supply base in western Europe through structural changes and alternate and substitute energy sources. The volume also evaluates western European security problems arising from present and future reliance on Soviet energy and relates this to North Sea supplies of gas and oil, indigenous and import supplies, and nuclear power generation.

Book Energy and Empire

Download or read book Energy and Empire written by George A. Gonzalez and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 2012-09-01 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What set the United States on the path to developing commercial nuclear energy in the 1950s, and what led to the seeming demise of that industry in the late 1970s? Why, in spite of the depletion of fossil fuels and the obvious dangers of global warming, has the United States moved so slowly toward adopting alternatives? In Energy and Empire, George A. Gonzalez presents a clear and concise argument demonstrating that economic elites tied their advocacy of the nuclear energy option to post-1945 American foreign policy goals. At the same time, these elites opposed government support for other forms of energy, such as solar, that cannot be dominated by one nation. While researchers have blamed safety concerns and other factors as helping to arrest the expansion of domestic nuclear power plant construction, Gonzalez points to an entirely different set of motivations stemming from the loss of America’s domination/control of the enrichment of nuclear fuel. Once foreign countries could enrich their own fuel, civilian nuclear power ceased to be a lever the United States could use to economically/politically dominate other nations. Instead, it became a major concern relating to nuclear weapons proliferation.

Book excerpt: This report assesses an array of transportation policies designed to reduce energy use and describes the intersection of these policies with general transportation problems such as congestion and air pollution. The report: describes the U.S. transportation system and its energy use; presents and evaluates forecasts of energy use to 2010; compares and contrasts U.S. and European travel and energy use patterns; discusses reasons governments may choose to intervene in transportation markets; and describes and evaluates a range of policy options to reduce U.S. transport energy use, from gasoline taxes to urban planning. Its objective is to provide a balanced, qualitative perspective of issues and problems rather than a highly quantified analysis.
