Download or read book Property and the Law of Finders written by Robin Hickey and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2010-01-20 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are finders keepers? This most simple of questions has long evaded a satisfactory legal answer. Generally it seems to have been accepted that a finder acquires a property right in the object of her find and can protect it from subsequent interference, but even this turns out to be the baldest statement of principle, resting on obscure and confused authority. This first full-length treatment of finders sets them in their legal-historical context, and discovers a fascinating area of law lying at the crossroads of crime, obligations, and property. That on the same facts a finder might be thief, bailee, and/or property right holder has clouded our conceptual analysis, and prevented us from stating simply our rules about finding. Nonetheless, when the applicable doctrines and policies of our property law (particularly the central concept of possession) are explored and understood in the light of countervailing rules of crime and tort, we can argue confidently that, despite centuries of doubt and confusion, English law has succeeded in producing a body of law that is theoretically and practically coherent. Property and the Law of Finders makes this argument, and will appeal to anyone specifically interested in the law of personal property, and also to those with broader concerns about the evolution of common law concepts and their ability to yield workable, practical solutions.

Download or read book The Universal Journalist written by David Randall and published by Juta and Company Ltd. This book was released on 2000-07-30 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Irrespective of language or culture, good journalists share a common commitment to the search for truth, often in far from ideal circumstances. With this assertion, David Randall emphasises that good journalism does not only concern universal objectives, it must also involve the acquisition of a range of skills that will empower journalists to operate in an industry where ownership, technology and information are constantly changing. This acclaimed handbook challenges old attitudes, procedures and techniques of journalism. This fully updated edition includes new sections on handling numbers and statistics, computer-assisted reporting and writing for the Web, as well as an extensively revised chapter on what makes a good reporter, and a new section on sources. Now, more than ever, this handbook is an invaluable guide to the 'universals' of good journalistic practice for professional and trainee journalists world-wide.

This book was released on 2011-01-31 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Knowledge Seeker is a useful system to develop various intelligent applications such as ontology-based search engine, ontology-based text classification system, ontological agent system, and semantic web system etc. The Knowledge Seeker contains four different ontological components. First, it defines the knowledge representation model ¡V Ontology Graph. Second, an ontology learning process that based on chi-square statistics is proposed for automatic learning an Ontology Graph from texts for different domains. Third, it defines an ontology generation method that transforms the learning outcome to the Ontology Graph format for machine processing and also can be visualized for human validation. Fourth, it defines different ontological operations (such as similarity measurement and text classification) that can be carried out with the use of generated Ontology Graphs. The final goal of the KnowledgeSeeker system framework is that it can improve the traditional information system with higher efficiency. In particular, it can increase the accuracy of a text classification system, and also enhance the search intelligence in a search engine. This can be done by enhancing the system with machine processable ontology.
