Book excerpt: This award–winning “powerful narrative history” presents a vividly detailed chronicle of grueling combat operations in Fallujah during the Iraq War (Midwest Book Review). Few places are as closely associated with blood, sacrifice, and valor as the ancient city Fallujah, forty miles west of Baghdad. This sprawling concrete jungle was the scene of two major U.S. combat operations in 2004. The first, Operation Vigilant Resolve, was an aborted effort by U.S. Marines to punish the city’s insurgents. The second, Operation Phantom Fury, was launched seven months later. Also known as the Second Battle for Fallujah, Operation Phantom Fury was a protracted house-to-house and street-to-street conflict that began on November 7th and continued unabated for seven bloody weeks. It was the largest fight of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the heaviest urban combat since the Battle of Hue City, Vietnam in 1968. By the time the fighting ended, more than 1,400 insurgents were dead, along with ninety-five Americans (and another 1,000 wounded). In New Dawn, military historian Richard Lowry draws on archival research, as well as the personal recollections of nearly 200 soldiers and Marines who participated in the battles for Fallujah, from the commanding generals who planned the operations to the privates who kicked in the doors. The result is a gripping narrative of individual sacrifice and valor that also documents the battles for future military historians. Book excerpt: In war, no one is safe. War has come to Thornstone, Tarkin’s Point, and Thoriddon, throwing all three nations into chaos. Led by the demon lord Vagborar, the legions of orcs are bent on nothing less than the total annihilation of both human and dwarf. With their demonic allies, they just might succeed. But not without a fight. As Serena tries to find answers and a path to victory, Orin and Brom fight with both sword and spell to turn back the tide of darkness. Beside them are a kingdom of dwarves and a city of humans, but even they may not be enough to beat back such a force. If they hope to survive, they need to come together, but with each nation under siege, uniting as one is easier said than done. When one of them is freed from battle, hope is rekindled, but prejudices rise to the surface, threatening everything. If any of them hope to survive, past actions and old hatreds must be forgotten. Hard decisions and painful sacrifices must be made. And pride and egotism must be set aside for the greater good. If not, a new age of evil will dawn upon the world.

Book Testament to a New Dawn

Download or read book Testament to a New Dawn written by Michael Champion and published by Grosvenor House Publishing. This book was released on 2021-10-18 with total page 828 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Testament to a New Dawn: Time of Revelation' is a unique collection of transcribed messages from ascended masters and other non-physical intelligence. They are relayed through mind transference [trance] through the medium of Michael D Champion. The messages contain guidance, teaching, philosophy, mathematical formulations, parables and topical information all pertaining to our present way of life and how, if we continue upon our present course, it will affect not only the continued existence of the human race, but the whole of the planet and all life upon it. Some messages will seem quite harsh, but they are brought forward in a loving manner, just as a parent may speak to a wayward child to set him or her upon the correct path of life. It is time to learn to live together as one co-operative civilisation. If we could somehow achieve this, perhaps the suffering we see around the world at this time may be less. In the three volumes of 'Testament to a New Dawn' we are given hope of a new world to come, but it is only by learning from the past and our current situation, that we can move forward to a better future. The teachings given are profound and although there may appear to be a religious theme at times, this should not be shied away from. The messages are non-denominational and acknowledge that all faiths are as one. We must learn to recognise the universal consciousness that is attainable to everyone through prayer and meditation. The messages given in all three volumes of 'Testament to a New Dawn' are from beings who are desperately trying to gain our attention. Knowledge is key if we are to survive in the future.

Book Shadows Before Dawn

Download or read book Shadows Before Dawn written by Teal Swan and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2015-05-12 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up in a tranquil wilderness, Teal Swan had a childhood that was anything but serene. Horrors lurked behind the façade of the perfect houses and pious community of the surrounding towns, and Teal attracted undue attention because of her unusually powerful extrasensory abilities. At the hands of a local cult member, she barely survived 13 years of horrendous abuse – and even after her escape, she was left powerless, lost, hurting, and with no way to cope. Gradually, and incredibly, Teal forged her way from the edge of despair to a sliver of light . . .and eventually emerged from the darkness into the full dawn of self-love. Here, she shows how you, too, can achieve the feelings of worthiness that may be long missing from your life. Now a recognized spiritual luminary, Teal documents how she dug herself out of self-hate, and details the remarkable trail for others to get to the same place. Shadows Before Dawn encompasses both Teal’s compelling story, told with raw intensity, and her resolute, no-nonsense how-to guide to healing from even the deepest levels of suffering. Offering a comprehensive self-love tool kit, Teal shares powerful exercises, insights, and perspective grounded in spirituality, and lets you choose which techniques are right for you. Teal’s resonating words will sit with your soul long after you put this book down and will serve as guideposts on the way to complete self-love – no matter who you are or where you are in life.

Book Medical Science in the 21st Century

Download or read book Medical Science in the 21st Century written by Desmond J Sheridan and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2012-11-29 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sets out the unique and paradoxical position biomedical science finds itself in, in the early 21st (superscript st) century. Science has never been stronger in shaping the world we live in; progress in medical science during most of the last century has helped to transform health care and prolong our lives; almost daily advances in biological science promise hope for the future and yet medical science has been in serious decline for the past three decades. Biomedical Science in the 21st (superscript st) Century: Sunset or New Dawn? sets out the recent decline in the context of medical science's stunning past successes. Professor Sheridan discusses the failure to translate new discoveries in biological science into medical advances; the dramatic decline in research productivity in the pharmaceutical industry in the context of falling numbers of clinical scientists; the disruption of medical science during prolonged and repeated reforms of health care delivery; changing social and political attitudes towards health care and science; the loss of trust in big pharmaceutical companies and recent revelations of fraud in science. The book deals with the creative nature of original science, how it is driven by curiosity and self-motivation and how these can be stifled by pettifogging managerialism. The book presents a vision of what medical science can deliver during the coming half century and what is needed to overcome the present challenges. It questions the assumptions that big is best in the organisation of science and suggests a new model for drug development based on a restoration of trust and a more constructive relationship between regulators and industry.

Book A New Dawn in Beloved Community

Download or read book A New Dawn in Beloved Community written by Linda Lee and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faith in Jesus Christ incorporates all Christians into the body of Christ, the invisible communion of all believers. But the church, as a human institution, remains broken and unable to embody fully this unity or oneness. Too often, the failure of Christians to manifest God’s love is rooted in differences in culture, traditions, or language that lead to fear and misunderstanding. This book brings together a collection of stories—of songs—that give the reader insight, that provide examples of how to share stories and learn from them, and that ultimately can lead to a new way of understanding the concepts of beloved community and the body of Christ.
