Book As Far As the Heart Can See

Download or read book As Far As the Heart Can See written by Mark Nepo and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2011-09-01 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stories carry the seeds of our humanness. They help us, teach us, heal us, and connect us to what matters. As Far As the Heart Can See is an invitation to be in relationship with deep and life-giving material. Many spiritual gurus present dense metaphysical theses with an intellectual approach for "working" a spiritual path; poet and philosopher Mark Nepo reaches people through their hearts, bringing something fresh and new to the field by stimulating change through reflection of thoughts and feelings. The stories he shares in As Far As the Heart Can See come from many places—from Nepo's personal history to dreams to the myths of our ancestors. Each one is an invitation to awaken an aspect of living in relationship with the sacred. Following each of the forty-five stories are three forms of an invitation to further the conversation: journal questions, table questions, and meditations. The questions, whether reflected upon in a journal or discussed in deeper conversation with friends or family, are meant to lead the seeker down unimagined paths and back into life; the meditations are meant to ground the learning. These stories and parables about universal concepts and themes offer a poet's sensuality and a philosopher's sensibility to personalizing the journey of the human experience in the world.

Book Manuscript Found in Accra

Download or read book Manuscript Found in Accra written by Paulo Coelho and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2013-04-02 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest novel from the #1 internationally best-selling author of The Alchemist. There is nothing wrong with anxiety. Although we cannot control God’s time, it is part of the human condition to want to receive the thing we are waiting for as quickly as possible. Or to drive away whatever is causing our fear. . . . Anxiety was born in the very same moment as mankind. And since we will never be able to master it, we will have to learn to live with it—just as we have learned to live with storms. * * * July 14, 1099. Jerusalem awaits the invasion of the crusaders who have surrounded the city’s gates. There, inside the ancient city’s walls, men and women of every age and every faith have gathered to hear the wise words of a mysterious man known only as the Copt. He has summoned the townspeople to address their fears with truth: “Tomorrow, harmony will become discord. Joy will be replaced by grief. Peace will give way to war. . . . None of us can know what tomorrow will hold, because each day has its good and its bad moments. So, when you ask your questions, forget about the troops outside and the fear inside. Our task is not to leave a record of what happened on this date for those who will inherit the Earth; history will take care of that. Therefore, we will speak about our daily lives, about the difficulties we have had to face.” The people begin with questions about defeat, struggle, and the nature of their enemies; they contemplate the will to change and the virtues of loyalty and solitude; and they ultimately turn to questions of beauty, love, wisdom, sex, elegance, and what the future holds. “What is success?” poses the Copt. “It is being able to go to bed each night with your soul at peace.” * * * Now, these many centuries later, the wise man’s answers are a record of the human values that have endured throughout time. And, in Paulo Coelho’s hands, The Manuscript Found in Accra reveals that who we are, what we fear, and what we hope for the future come from the knowledge and belief that can be found within us, and not from the adversity that surrounds us. This eBook edition includes a Reading Group Guide.

Book The Vision of the Soul

Download or read book The Vision of the Soul written by James Matthew Wilson and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ours is an age full of desires but impoverished in its understanding of where those desires lead—an age that claims mastery over the world but also claims to find the world as a whole absurd or unintelligible. In The Vision of the Soul, James Matthew Wilson seeks to conserve the great insights of the western tradition by giving us a new account of them responsive to modern discontents. The western— or Christian Platonist—tradition, he argues, tells us that man is an intellectual animal, born to pursue the good, to know the true, and to contemplate all things in beauty. Wilson begins by reconceiving the intellectual conservatism born of Edmund Burke’s jeremiad against the French Revolution as an effort to preserve the West’s vision of man and the cosmos as ordered by and to beauty. After defining the achievement of that vision and its tradition, Wilson offers an extended study of the nature of beauty and the role of the fine arts in shaping a culture but above all in opening the human intellect to the perception of the form of reality. Through close studies of Theodor W. Adorno and Jacques Maritain, he recovers the classical vision of beauty as a revelation of truth and being. Finally, he revisits the ancient distinction between reason and story-telling, between mythos and logos, in order to rejoin the two. Story-telling is foundational to the forms of the fine arts, but it is no less foundational to human reason. Human life in turn constitutes a specific kind of form—a story form. The ancient conception of human life as a pilgrimage to beauty itself is one that we can fully embrace only if we see the essential correlation between reason and story and the essential convertibility of truth, goodness and beauty in beauty. By turns a study in fundamental ontology, aesthetics, and political philosophy, Wilson’s book invites its readers to a renewal of the West’s intellectual tradition.

This book was released on 2000-05 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From as far back as the 16th century, when St. Edmund Campion of England spoke of ?a great day that would reveal all men's consciences, ? a coming day of enlightenment has been foretold. Known as the ?Warning? or the ?Mini-Judgment?, it is purported to be a day in which God will supernaturally illuminate the conscience of every man, woman, and child on earth. Each person, then, would momentarily see the state of their soul through God's eyes and realize the truth of His existence, afterwhich, it is said the world will never be the same. This predicted event is now said to be imminent, as talk concerning the certainty of this miracle has intensified. This comprehensive and authoritative guide uses Scripture and testimony from the Saints and Visionaries to help explain the coming great miracle of God's Mercy.

Book excerpt: "The debut novel by architect-turned-author Moore is a mystic-inspirational piece laden with autobiographical detail in the same vein as works by Dan Millman and Richard Bach. . . . a well-described memoir of pain and triumph in the Tobias Wolff mold even as it bounds ahead in the final chapters into a fantastically distant future utopian American on "New Earth," where humans have finally embraced inner godliness (and really good architecture). . . . Well-constructed entry in the New Age/inspirational genre. . . ." -Kirkus Review Zach and Samantha Morgan are young urban professionals expecting their second child. But when their amniocentesis test reveals devastating news, they are thrown into complete turmoil. Sam's doctor gives them less than twenty-four hours to choose whether or not to terminate the pregnancy. Then an accident renders Zach unconscious on the bathroom floor. This sends a signal to his Soul, Domini, to take him to the Swing Between Worlds, the dimension where Souls design their human incarnations. He undergoes eleven initiations to review his life and gain a broader perspective about himself and humankind. In the twelfth initiation, he meets the Soul of their unborn child. Zach thus earns the right to tour the City of Union on New Earth, where he learns how our social and physical systems can change to reflect the expansive self-awareness of the people, transforming Earth to paradise. When he is finally returned to his body, he revisits the dilemma of what to do about his and Sam's unborn child-but with a fresh perspective. In this novel, as a young couple faces a choice regarding their severely deformed fetus, one of them experiences a spiritual journey that changes his view of the world.

Book Seeing with the Eyes of the Soul

Download or read book Seeing with the Eyes of the Soul written by Barbara Rose Centilli and published by Saint Andrew's Productions. This book was released on 2008-07-01 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the centuries, man's journey on his way home to God has been characterized by many memorable and immortal events. From Noah's Ark to the Ark of the Covenant, from the Annunciation to Calvary, our salvation history is rich with people, places, promises, and extraordinary miracles. This fascinating history comes alive for each generation of God's children as the past is never more real in any area of our lives as it is in matters of religion and faith. This is especially true for Christians, because we trust in Scripture's words concerning what must come to fulfillment before the end of the world. Thus, we are always waiting, searching and hoping for God to reveal Himself and the unfolding of His plan in our lifetimes. The revelations in this book from God the Father to Barbara Centilli appear to embrace these truths and to add new understanding to the entire subject of eschatology. From new insights into the meaning of some of the promises contained in the Old and New Testaments, to a greater and more profound understanding of what Christ taught about our Eternal Father, Seeing With the Eyes of the Soul is a masterpiece of spirituality, rich and unparalleled in its impact on the reader. Most significantly, the Eternal Father's revelations to Barbara teach us how love and sin can make or break us and how love and sin will now either make or break the world. Seeing with the Eyes of the Soul also teaches us about our present life and eternity and how inevitably both are shaped and determined by the choices we make in our journey back home to The Father. This book is a stairway to that home and is destined to be a classic in Catholic mysticism.
