It contains tables that supply the statistics doctors need on risks/benefits, incidence/prevalence, success rates for assisted reproduction, and more. As an ob/gyn student, resident, or busy family doctor, you don't have time to search through several different books for information. Written by a practitioner for fellow practitioners, the book gives you hands-on advice that you can apply immediately. Book Confessions of a Gynecologist

Download or read book Confessions of a Gynecologist written by Gary Andrew Dresden and published by . This book was released on 2024-06-24 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Dresden leaves no stone unturned as he navigates through the exciting world of the development and practice of an obstetrician and gynecologist. From start to finish, his story is wrought with startling revelations and shocking exposes. His journey uncovers the needs, hopes, anticipations, and expectations of men who choose to become physicians and, later on, obstetricians and gynecologists. He deals, without evasion, with the compromises that must be made in a physician's personal life in order to first learn and then practice his chosen profession. He explores, in stark detail, the life experiences that motivate men to strive to serve women's medical needs. He uncovers the self-serving and abusive nature of medical training and the resultant waste, inefficiency, and danger. He confronts the flaws and dangers in the medical delivery system that threaten our expectation of quality medical care. He exposes the rot, self-interest, and hypocrisy that pervade the political power structure of hospitals and medical societies. Lastly, he uncovers the power that drug companies can exert to control the pricing and delivery of pharmaceuticals and concomitantly keep physicians in line. The task is monumental and the author has met the challenge.

Download or read book Assume the Position written by Richard Houck and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-02-01 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Assume the Position: Memoirs of an Obstetrician" will place the reader in the shoes of an Obstetrician and Gynecologist with years of clinical experience and training. It will also place the reader in the same stirrups as patients in my office, listening to the trials, tribulations, joys, and fears expressed to me. All women wonder what other women experience when they see their OB GYN physician. All men wonder what his girlfriend or wife will be subjected to when exposed in front of their 'Gyno'. The stresses and strains of a busy professional life on an Obstetrician Gynecologist are revealed in intimate, true detail. The story begins after early retirement from one of the busiest group practices in Phoenix, Arizona and a move to the beautiful high alpine ski town of Telluride, Colorado, after an ultimatum from my wife. From there the story continues to the depths of Africa to explore women's health care in a small country with some of the worst obstetrical and neonatal outcomes in the world. Timely topics subsequently discussed include office life, operating room experiences, the medical malpractice crisis, abortion, the family life of an obstetrician, labor and delivery, night life, the business of medicine, Obamacare, managed care, and life after private practice. Each chapter is punctuated with true, unfiltered vignettes, laughable, joyful, fearful, and tearful, that can only be found in the life of an OB-GYN physician as he goes throughout his day. I am an actively licensed, American Board Certified Obstetrician Gynecologist. A graduate of Princeton University, I was trained at two of the top medical institutions in Philadelphia, after which my wife and I picked up our East Coast roots and moved to begin anew in the desert of Arizona. After 21 years of private practice, involved in all aspects of practice management and women's health care and research, I chose to leave it all behind and begin a second career in expert witness medical malpractice testimony, and then a third career as a medical director. I believe you will enjoy the experience of spending some time in my shoes.

Book Medical Bondage

    Book Details:
  • Author : Deirdre Cooper Owens
  • Publisher : University of Georgia Press
  • Release : 2017-11-15
  • ISBN : 0820351342
  • Pages : 182 pages

Download or read book Medical Bondage written by Deirdre Cooper Owens and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The accomplishments of pioneering doctors such as John Peter Mettauer, James Marion Sims, and Nathan Bozeman are well documented. It is also no secret that these nineteenth-century gynecologists performed experimental caesarean sections, ovariotomies, and obstetric fistula repairs primarily on poor and powerless women. Medical Bondage breaks new ground by exploring how and why physicians denied these women their full humanity yet valued them as “medical superbodies” highly suited for medical experimentation. In Medical Bondage, Cooper Owens examines a wide range of scientific literature and less formal communications in which gynecologists created and disseminated medical fictions about their patients, such as their belief that black enslaved women could withstand pain better than white “ladies.” Even as they were advancing medicine, these doctors were legitimizing, for decades to come, groundless theories related to whiteness and blackness, men and women, and the inferiority of other races or nationalities. Medical Bondage moves between southern plantations and northern urban centers to reveal how nineteenth-century American ideas about race, health, and status influenced doctor-patient relationships in sites of healing like slave cabins, medical colleges, and hospitals. It also retells the story of black enslaved women and of Irish immigrant women from the perspective of these exploited groups and thus restores for us a picture of their lives.
