Book A Road Well Travelled

Download or read book A Road Well Travelled written by Brian Leaney and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-11-19 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What follows in this book is the story of my life 1937 – 1968. It is a story of a sometimes difficult journey from troubled childhood to self discovery as an adult. On the way, I learnt to overcome adversity and to take responsibility for my decisions and actions. This learning process was mainly achieved through travel which was, and still is, an abiding passion. For many years, I tried to compartmentalize some events and memories from my early childhood which were unpleasant and better suppressed. I found that looking ahead was considerably more positive than dwelling on the past. There is an old Buddhist saying “if you are looking in the right direction, all you have to do is keep on walking”. I have done a lot of walking.

Book John Baeder s Road Well Taken

Download or read book John Baeder s Road Well Taken written by and published by Vendome Press. This book was released on 2015-10-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fascinating trip through the evocative remnants of a vanishing America, this book is also a portrait of an artist who has captured the nostalgic essence of what's been lost. In 1972, John Baeder (b. 1938) left a career on Madison Avenue to become a full-time painter, gambling his livelihood on art dealer Ivan Karp's evaluation of his first four canvases: a diner, a motel, a gas station, a tourist camp. Based on color postcards in his growing collection of roadside memorabilia, they launched a career that put him at the forefront of the growing photorealist movement. Baeder's paintings, particularly of classic diners, were an immediate success, and he scoured the country for prime examples to document before they disappeared. Here, Jay Williams recounts the inside story of Baeder's multifaceted career. With more than 300 illustrations of his highly collectible paintings, watercolors, vintage photographs, printed ephemera, and three-dimensional memorabilia, this is an artist's journey, traveled along the back highways of the United States.

This book was released on 2015-11-03 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This vintage book contains the first volume of William Morris's 1896 novel, "The Well at the World's End". It is a fantasy novel that, along with Morris's other work, "The Wood Beyond the World" (1894), inspired the writings of J. R. R. Tolkien. It is the story of Ralph of Upmeads, a son of a king who sets out, against his parents' desires, to seek out the fabled "Well at the World's End", a magical well that will give those who drink of it godlike powers. An enthralling and masterfully-written tale of fantasy and adventure, "The Well at the World's End" is highly recommended for fans of the genre, and it is not to be missed by collectors of Morris's work. William Morris (1834 - 1896) was an English poet, novelist, translator, and activist. Many texts such as this are increasingly hard to come by and expensive, and it is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition. It comes complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.

Book excerpt: WINNER OF THE PULITZER PRIZE • NATIONAL BESTSELLER • A searing, post-apocalyptic novel about a father and son's fight to survive, this "tale of survival and the miracle of goodness only adds to McCarthy's stature as a living master. It's gripping, frightening and, ultimately, beautiful" (San Francisco Chronicle). • From the bestselling author of The Passenger A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food—and each other. The Road is the profoundly moving story of a journey. It boldly imagines a future in which no hope remains, but in which the father and his son, "each the other's world entire," are sustained by love. Awesome in the totality of its vision, it is an unflinching meditation on the worst and the best that we are capable of: ultimate destructiveness, desperate tenacity, and the tenderness that keeps two people alive in the face of total devastation. Look for Cormac McCarthy's latest bestselling novels, The Passenger and Stella Maris.

This book was released on 2007-03-13 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document contains a consultation document, the text of the draft Climate Change Bill, explanatory notes to the Bill, and a regulatory impact assessment, published for pre-legislative scrutiny and public consultation. The Bill will introduce a long-term framework for the UK to achieve its goals of reducing carbon dioxide emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change. The consultation document discusses the context and rationale behind the Climate Change Bill and sets out the main reasons why legislation in this area is required. The key elements of the Bill are: (1) setting targets in statute and carbon budgeting, with a statutory goal of a 60 per cent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions through domestic and international action by 2050, based on a new system of "carbon budgets" set at least fifteen years ahead (with reviews at five yearly intervals), and with progress reported annually to Parliament; (2) establishing an independent Committee on Climate Change to advise the government on how to reduce carbon emissions over time and across the economy; (3) creating enabling powers to allow the introduction of new domestic emissions trading schemes through secondary legislation; (4) reporting requirements will enhance the overall transparency and accountability of UK action on climate change, with the Committee on Climate Change reporting annually to Parliament on progress towards budgets and targets, with the Government required to produce a response to this independent report. The consultation closes on 12 June 2007, and responses are invited using the electronic form that is available at http://www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/consult/climatechange-bill/ although any electronic / written format will be accepted. Responses should be sent to: E-mail: [email protected] or by post to: Patrick Erwin / James Hardy, Climate Change Legislation Team, Area 4/F5, Ashdown House, 123 Victoria Street, London SW1E 6DE.
