Download or read book The Appalachian Geology of John M Dennison written by Katharine Lee Avary and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2020-09-11 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Dr. John M. Dennison spent his career studying the Appalachians, teaching and mentoring his students and professional colleagues, publishing papers, leading field trips, and presenting ideas at regional, national and international conferences. This volume is a collection of papers contributed by former students and colleagues to honor his memory. Learn about stratigraphy and paleontology ranging in age from Ordovician to Mississippian in Kentucky, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia; Devonian airfall tephras throughout the eastern United States; a Devonian lonestone; a Middle Eocene bentonite in North Carolina and its relationship to a volcanic swarm in western Virginia; and a 3D model of a ductile duplex in northwestern Georgia. The stratigraphic and geologic diversity of the papers reflect Dennison's many interests and relationships with a large group of geoscientists"--

Download or read book Uppermost Devonian and Lower Carboniferous Stratigraphy Sedimentation and Diagenesis Southwestern District of Mackenzie and Southeastern Yukon Territory NTS 95 B C F and G written by B. C. Richards and published by Energy Mines and Resources Canada. This book was released on 1989-01-01 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Description of the uppermost Devonian and Lower Carboniferous strata that lie between the Mattson and Exshaw formations, including regional lithostratigraphy; characteristics, distribution, and depositional environments of the lithofacies; and the latest Devonian and early Carboniferous depositional history of the project areas. Some aspects of the diagenesis of the deposits are also discussed. The study is based chiefly on data from the outcrop belt of the Tournaisian and Visean in the southern Mackenzie fold belt, but incorporates some data from well sections in the project area and the region to the east. Parts of the field seasons of 1975, 1976 and 1978 were spent in the study area.

Download or read book Stratigraphy Structural Geology and Tectonic History of the McCully Area Moncton Subbasin Southeastern New Brunswick written by Paul Wilson and published by [Fredericton] : New Brunswick, Minerals, Policy and Planning Division. This book was released on 2005 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The McCully area in the western part of the Late Devonian to Carboniferous Moncton Subbasin, located north-east of Sussex, New Brunswick, is of economic importance because of the presence of potash & rock salt deposits and a natural gas field. The primary objectives of this report are to understand the structural geology, three-dimensional architecture, and tectonic history of the Late Devonian to Carboniferous rocks in the vicinity of the McCully gas field. Special attention is paid to the morphology, kinematics, and timing of structures relevant to the structural control of the petroleum system in Albert Formation rocks of the gas field, and to emplacement & control of potash deposits in the study area. Data from surface mapping, industry & public domain seismic reflection profiles, drill core from potash exploration drilling, and well cuttings from the gas field are integrated in this study. The results presented advance knowledge of the stratigraphy & structural geology of the area and contribute to the assessment of structural controls on sedimentation, hydrocarbon traps, and potash & salt emplacement. The implications of the data for the tectonic history & setting of the larger Maritimes Basin are also evaluated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Appalachians constitute one of Earth's major tectonic features and have served as a springboard for innovative geologic thought for more than 170 years. This volume contains 36 original papers reporting the results of research performed throughout nearly the entire length and breadth of the Appalachian region, including all major provinces and geographical areas. Memoir 206 was designed to commemorate the (near-)fortieth anniversary of the publication of the classic Studies of Appalachian Geology volumes that appeared just prior to the application of plate tectonic concepts to the region. Contributions concerning structural evolution, sedimentation, stratigraphy, magmatic processes, metamorphism, tectonics, and terrane accretion illustrate the wide range of ongoing research in the area and collectively serve to mark the considerable progress in scientific thought that has occurred during the past four decades."--pub. desc.
