Indus River is the longest river in the Asian territory, originated from Tibet Mountain northwest of Pakistan. Routed from the northern part of Gilgit and flowing to word plan area passed through different provinces and flow with sedimentary flux connected with many small and large tributaries tectonically the birth of the rive due to collision of Indian and Eurasian plate that are called Indus suture Plains zone (ISPZ). The main geology composed of igneous and metamorphic rock. The river passed in the various climatic zone with different regions mostly climate is subtropics arid and sub arid to subequatorial. The northern area mostly coved by monsoon system variation of seasonality takes place in the month of May to Oct high flow with increase sedimentary flux special in monsoon time. Anthropogenic activities locally and widely in terms of construction of dams water canals for irrigation purposes, mining exploration, and industries and factories all flux flow in different tributaries impacted on physical and chemical behaviors of the sediments. The primary impact of anthropogenic processes is the reworking of weathered soil smectite which is an indicator of chemical weathering and which increases in the offshore record after around 5000 years ago. This material indicates greater transport of stronger chemically weathered material and some of this may be caused by the erosion of old soils broken up by agriculture, although we also see evidence for the incision of the big rivers into the floodplain which is also driving reworking of this type of material so the signal may be a combination of the two. The dramatic change in shape and size of the sediments by colliding each other during the high charge river.

The feeble seasonal monsoon of 2009 caused a deficiency across the Pakistan. This comes after many rural households were already in dire straits facing high fertilizer charges and the impact of increasing world food prices. To aggravate the matters, the calamitous monsoon floods of 2010 overblown more than 22 million people, their homelands, structure and harvests. It has been estimated that this single flood caused around US$10 billion in damage, about partial of which was due to fatalities in the agricultural division. Introduction: The Indus Basin has a long and lively history of growth and alteration in irrigation. The settlements of the Harappan evolution in the Indus Valley date back five millennia. During the monsoon season, traces of flood channels remain that cut through the floodplains and allowed the inundation of agricultural fuel, food and minor crops within the riparian corridor. One of the largest dams, the so-called Gabarbands, dam water in torrents and branch catchment areas. Urban toilets and manure systems which aided cities such as Mohenjo-Daro in the Pakistan, Sindh’s lower Indus River section. such smaller cities and were discovered in the 2nd millennium BC. Abandoned due to overflowing of river, salinization, and changes in riverbeds. In a large drainage basin east central Indus valley, the Ghaggar-Hakra river canal changed development during the changes due to river in Harappan era, resulting in the desertion of hundreds of settlements. Such past events raise inquiries about continual sustainability in the setting of lively hydroclimatic unpredictability. Pakistan gets most of its water from monsoon runoff, aquifers and the headwaters of glaciers and snowfields from the rivers of the Indus Basin. In the Hindu Kush-Karakorum Mountain region areas of the Himalayas, 50 to 80 percent of the average Indus flow is due to snow and glacial melt, with the remainder due to monsoonal rains on the plains. Climate transformation may result in increased unpredictability in the supply and effectiveness of snowfall, as well as variations in snow and ice melt, which would affect water resource managing in the basin.

According to the Indian Environment Agency, floods rank as number one on the list of natural disasters in India over the past decade. This book is an attempt to fill the gap in literature and bring forth evidence based latest research about precise estimation of erosion and scour, which is essential to reduce the hazards. The book explains that lack of preparedness and appropriate adaptation strategy makes people more risk-prone. It highlights the vulnerability in South Asia region about the impacts of flood, sediments, and river hazards because a large portion of its population depends on sensitive sectors like agriculture and forestry for livelihoods and several other reasons. The book is relevant for academician, researchers and students of disaster management, hydrology and ecology.

The weak summer monsoon in 2009 created drought conditions throughout the country. Then catastrophic monsoon flooding in 2010 affected over 20 million people, devastating their housing, infrastructure, and crops. Damages from this single flood event were estimated at US dollar 10 billion, half of which were losses in the agriculture sector. Notwithstanding the debate as to whether these observed extremes are evidence of climate change, an investigation is needed regarding the extent to which the country is resilient to these shocks. It is thus timely, if not critical, to focus on climate risks for water, agriculture, and food security in the Indus basin of Pakistan.

Therefore, the first section of the present book presents effects of sediment transport on hydraulic structures, that concern alluvial channel hydraulics. The second section refers to a serious consequence of river sediment transport, namely reservoir sedimentation. Sediment transported in a river originates from the corresponding basin, that is eroded by rainfall water. Hence, the quantification of soil erosion is also addressed in the second section. While soil erosion is the original physical process that causes reservoir sedimentation, the latter process may increase coastal erosion in case that the river feeding the reservoir, discharges its water into the sea. So, the effect of reservoir sedimentation on coastal erosion is further treated in the second section. Finally, the third section of the book is dedicated to the phenomenon of local scour around bridge piers, in particular the conditions of ice cover.
