Book excerpt: Despite the command from Christ to love your neighbour, Western Christianity has continued to be afflicted by the evil of racism and the acts of violence that accompany it. Through a systems theoretical and deconstructive account of religion and the political theology of St. Paul, this book traces how the racism and violence of modern Western Christianity is a symptom of its failure to secure its own myth of sovereignty within a complex world of plurality. Divided into three sections, the book begins with a philosophical and critical account of what it calls the immune system of Christian identity. Focusing on Pauline political theology as reflective of an inherent religious "autoimmunity" built into Christian community, a theory of theological-political violence is located within Western Christianity. The second section traces major theoretical aspects of the historical "apparatus" of Christian Identity. It demonstrates that it is ultimately around the figure of the black slave that racialized Christian identity becomes a system of anti-blackness and white supremacy. The book concludes by offering strategies for thinking resistance against such racialised Christian identity. It does this by constructing a "pragmatics of faith" by engaging Deleuze’s and Guattari’s use of the term pragmatics, Moten’s theory of black fugitivity, and Long’s account of African American religious production. This wide-ranging and interdisciplinary view of Christianity’s relationship to racism will be of keen interest to scholars of Religious Studies, Theological Studies, Cultural Studies, Critical Race Studies, American Studies, and Critical Theory.

Scholars have long traced the lineage of these ideas to Greco-Roman and Iranian sources. In The Greatest Mirror, Andrei A. Orlov shows that heavenly twin imagery drew in large part from early Jewish writings. The Jewish pseudepigraphabooks from the Second Temple period that were attributed to biblical figures but excluded from the Hebrew Biblecontain accounts of heavenly twins in the form of spirits, images, faces, children, mirrors, and angels of the Presence. Orlov provides a comprehensive analysis of these traditions in their full historical and interpretive complexity. He focuses on heavenly alter egos of Enoch, Moses, Jacob, Joseph, and Aseneth in often neglected books, including Animal Apocalypse, Book of the Watchers, 2 Enoch, Ladder of Jacob, and Joseph and Aseneth, some of which are preserved solely in the Slavonic language. This book is the first complete effort to show how some pseudepigraphical works develop several unique traditions about heavenly counterparts. It is particularly important for many scholars who do not have control of the Slavonic originals of the Ladder of Jacob and 2 Enoch. Orlov also draws on a broad range of unfamiliar sources, including Manichaean and Mandaean materials, which were often neglected by experts who previously investigated the heavenly counterpart imagery. Are Israel and “the Church” separate entities? If they are not, how would this change our perception of various aspects of the end-times?When Will the Messiah Return? is a unique book addressing the end-times from a Messianic perspective. The Messiah stated plainly that He would gather the saints “immediately after the tribulation of those days” (Matthew 24:29). Discussed are common false understandings as they relate to “the Church” being taken to Heaven for the duration of the Tribulation period, and instead how all Believers in Messiah Yeshua get to participate in restoration of Israel's Kingdom via His return. The history of this period which saw the most barbaric attacks on Hindu society on an unprecedented scale any time in the history of mankind was a void which needed to be filled in so far as knowledge dissipation was concerned. There has been a deliberate attempt at ignoring the events which occurred both during Muslim invasions and that following the equally infamous British occupation. Modern historians by design were probably instructed by successive governments to draw a veil over these atrocities during this period in an effort at reducing social feuding among various communities. This book is also an effort to highlight some of the dangerous trends currently permeating through Indian society. The current narrative in this country is now moving in the direction of highlighting the effects of demographic changes, Islamic militancy, Christian evangelism and Maoism or Naxalism as it is commonly called. Of particular concern to the author is the uncontrolled migration of people from across our borders and Christian evangelism, this latter phenomenon threatening to destroy the social fabric and our native culture. This work attempts to highlight the fact that the Hindu society has unwittingly fallen into the technology trap with no safety net to protect our native culture.
