Seeking the meaning to his life in the study of philosophy, the young Roman. Marcus Manilianus, discovers in an Alexandrian library a vast number of predictions, all tending to confirm his own feeling that the world is about to enter upon a new era. Two chance encounters with Jews who proclaim the coming of a world leader whom they call the Messiah or King, cause Marcus to resolve to make a visit to the Holy City of the Jews. He arrives outside Jerusalem in time to see crowds—some curious, some shocked—staring up at three crosses on a nearby mound. Above the center cross, an inscription had been fixed: JESUS OF NAZARETH, KING OF THE JEWS. The quest that ensues leads Marcus through all parts of Jerusalem and into contact with men and women of all stations of life who had known this remarkable man. And by degrees, wonderful if strange things are revealed to him of Jesus’ teaching, and he experiences the odd sensation of almost believing in the destiny of this crucified Roman among the alien Jews, Stands alone on the borderline of two worlds, feelings he belongs to neither, and it becomes vital to him to find “the way, “the Kingdom,” to again knowledge and certainty, not merely belief. What follows, as Marcus pursues his search for the promised secret of the Kingdom, bring to a climax as exciting and deeply moving a novel as Mika Waltari, certainly one of the world’s outstanding historical novelists, has ever written. It is a story of a time long past, yet it deals with a theme as modern as today: the dilemma of modern man and his culture in gaining and retaining a faith. And always present throughout the novel is the splendor, the irony and humor which have so delighted millions of readers of other Waltari novels from The Egyptian to The Etruscan.

While many details of God's revelation train are still shrouded, secrets hidden for centuries are now revealed to us. Download or read book The Mystery of God written by Steven D. Boyer and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2012-11-01 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can I know God if he is incomprehensible? Is it possible to know God in a way that takes seriously the fact that he is beyond knowledge? Steven Boyer and Christopher Hall argue that the "mystery of God" has a rightful place in theological discourse. They contend that considering divine incomprehensibility invites reverence and humility in our thinking and living as Christians and clarifies a variety of theological topics. The authors begin by investigating the biblical, historical, and practical foundations for understanding the mystery of God. They then spell out its implications for theological issues and practices such as the incarnation, salvation, and prayer, rooting knowledge of God in a concrete life of faith. Evangelical yet ecumenical, this book will appeal to theology students, pastors, church leaders, and all who want intellectual and practical guidance for knowing the unknowable God.

Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered why Jesus often spoke in parables? Are you curious about what lessons we can learn from these parables today? Pastor and bestselling author John MacArthur breaks down the parables and teaches us how we can apply these deceptively simple stories to modern Christianity. Jesus was a master storyteller, and the parables he often told were no exception. Beneath these unassuming stories were deeply profound spiritual lessons that were designed to reach all who heard them--from the faithful to the faithless--and they're still relevant today. In Parables, MacArthur argues that these short, memorable stories represented more than just symbolism or a clever teaching style--they were carefully crafted tales that made the mysteries of the Gospel more accessible to everyday believers. Parables will help you see Jesus' teachings in a brand new light, addressing some of the most common questions on the topic, including: When did Jesus start teaching in parables? What makes parables so accessible? How can we interpret these stories? What common threads link each of the parables together? What do parables teach us about the kingdom of God? MacArthur has spent a lifetime sharing the Word of God in clear and comprehensible terms with believers of all walks of life. Let him be your guide as he sheds light on the essential lessons contained in the most infamous and influential short stories the world has ever known.

This book was released on 2013-07-26 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to Jesus, the primary message of his teachings were "hidden" from those who were not ready to know the deeper truth (Mark 4:22 and Luke 19:42). This special knowledge is related to what is referred to in the Old Testament as the "secret things" of the Lord (Deuteronomy 29:29). Until now, the "sacred secrets of the kingdom of God" (Luke 8:10 and Matthew 13:11) have never been made public to the world. However, clues left in the ancient texts, including the Bible itself, have made it possible to understand and reveal these shocking matters for the first time. What the ground-breaking findings reveal is that almost everything that is commonly known about the Bible, God, and Jesus, is wrong.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Triunity: How to Know That the Three Are One GENESIS 1:1 SAYS, In the beginning God. God is three in one. For many years, I lacked the depth of understanding of how this could be. I accepted by faith what I could not understand with my finite mind. Ephesians 4:23 says, And be renewed in the spirit of your mind. Further study gave me a revealed knowledge of another truth that I will tie into the trinity of God. Many a time women and children are not mentioned in the Bible accounts. For example, Matthew 15:38 says, And they that had eaten were five thousand, beside the women and children. As the husband is the head of the wife and children, his household is a trinity. So Christ is the head of the church and God the Father is the Godhead. The Holy Spirit is in operation for and through the church. God the Father, Jesus the Christ, KNOWLEDGE REVEALED 23 and the Holy Spirit work as one unit, as the family unit is one working together. To emphasize the above fact, wives and children belong to the husband and are one in him. Genesis 2:24 says, Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh. Even so, we who believe in Christ as our Savior are one in body with Him. God the Father, Jesus Christ the son, and the Holy Spirit, are one in the Godhead. Regarding Triunity and further revealed knowledge: A study of Through the Bible Study with Roper Press booklets. ** A question I asked myself of which I was not sure of the answer was should I write Jesus or Triunity? I simply wrote, Jesus Tri-umphant. Just then, the Holy Spirit of God revealed to me that Tri-umphant means the whole Godhead. Triunity, three in one, triumphant, Glory to God! ** Harlin J Roper, Through The Bible Study, 1978 Dallas, TX: Roper Press (Used with permission).
