Download or read book Double Headers written by Keith Walmsley and published by Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Double Headers Keith Walmsley throws light into one of cricket’s more intriguing, if inconsequential, obscure corners by investigating the background of the two occasions in England when one county has been engaged in two first-class matches at the same time. Were they the result of mistakes in drawing up the fixture lists, or was there a more rational explanation? Double Headers also explores issues of team selection for these games, and looks into why there has been no recurrence since 1919 of a county playing two first-class matches at once. As well as examining these two instances in detail, it also identifies and explains the background to numerous other occasions, from all around the cricketing world, when teams ‘double-headed’, and even ‘triple-headed’. These include over two dozen other instances in Britain, and even some instances in Test cricket.

Download or read book Essentials of Pattern Recognition written by Jianxin Wu and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-11-19 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook introduces fundamental concepts, major models, and popular applications of pattern recognition for a one-semester undergraduate course. To ensure student understanding, the text focuses on a relatively small number of core concepts with an abundance of illustrations and examples. Concepts are reinforced with hands-on exercises to nurture the student's skill in problem solving. New concepts and algorithms are framed by real-world context and established as part of the big picture introduced in an early chapter. A problem-solving strategy is employed in several chapters to equip students with an approach for new problems in pattern recognition. This text also points out common errors that a new player in pattern recognition may encounter, and fosters the ability for readers to find useful resources and independently solve a new pattern recognition task through various working examples. Students with an undergraduate understanding of mathematical analysis, linear algebra, and probability will be well prepared to master the concepts and mathematical analysis presented here.
Download or read book Absolutely Foxed written by Graeme Fowler and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-05-05 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Wonderfully entertaining' Mail on Sunday ‘Profoundly important' Guardian Graeme Fowler - former England cricketer, happy-go-lucky joker and inspirational coach - was 47 when depression struck. Suddenly one of the most active men you'd ever meet couldn't even get up off the sofa to make a cup of tea. In Absolutely Foxed, a cricket memoir like no other, Fowler takes the reader on a vivid ride, with riotous stories of life on England tours, partying with Ian Botham and Elton John, combined with a moving account of his battle with mental-health issues. A hugely influential coach, and one of the most original thinkers about the game, Fowler looks back over his 40 years in the professional game, including his 16 years on the county circuit with Lancashire and Durham, and his three years as an England international - a period that was cut short by a life-threatening injury. He followed that with a spell working on Test Match Special, before running the Durham Centre of Excellence for 18 years. In his Foreword, lifelong friend Sir Ian Botham describes Fowler as 'one of the gutsiest I ever encountered', but also points out how he 'made a dressing room tick'. Those elements of courage, knowledge and humour are all present in Absolutely Foxed - a truly unmissable read.

This book provides a complete automation methodology for the implementation of digital circuits in MCML and provides an extensive explanation on the technical details of design of MCML. A systematic methodology is presented to build efficient MCML standard-cell libraries, and a complete top-down design flow is shown to implement complex systems using such building blocks.
Download or read book George Raikes Muscular Christianity written by Stephen Musk and published by Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians. This book was released on 2017-02-01 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Born and raised in Norfolk and educated at Oxford, George Raikes (1873-1966) was an all-round sportsman, gaining four ‘blues’ for soccer and two for cricket in the 1890s as well as being effective on the golf course and the tennis court. As a goalkeeper his reviews were almost all ‘rave’ and it was no surprise when he earned four caps for England – what was a surprise was that he retired abruptly at the age of 23 to enter the Church. However, his religious duties did not entirely prevent him from playing cricket and he re-appeared for Norfolk in 1904, re-invented as an inspirational and astute skipper, leading Norfolk to two Minor Counties Championships in his four years as captain; and, intriguingly, as one of the first ‘modern’ leg spinners – developing and retaining control over a variety of deliveries that bamboozled Minor Counties batsmen across the country. This book aims to place Raikes’ sporting deeds in the context of the rise of professionalism in soccer, the inter-play between religion and sport at the end of the 19th century and the development of wrist spin. Alas, it does not claim to understand the theory behind his occasional use of the ‘slow beamer’ as a stock delivery...
