Download or read book Second Supplements to the 2nd Edition of Rodd s Chemistry of Carbon Compounds written by Sainsbury and published by Elsevier Science. This book was released on 2001 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To date, the second edition of the Rodd's series consists of 71 volumes and over 30,000 pages.Rodd's Chemistry of Carbon Compounds is continuing with a short series of topical volumes on emerging subjects that are not covered in detail in the main volumes. The first two topical volumes will cover organic electrochemistry and asymmetric catalysis.Asymmetric synthesis initiated by metal catalysts is, of course, not a new topic and asymmetric reduction and epoxidation of alkenes, in particular, are major subject areas covered widely in the Supplements to the 2nd Edition of Rodd's Chemistry of the Carbon Compounds. However, there has been a huge increase in the use of asymmetrically catalysed reactions in other areas in the last five years or so, and this is why this subject has been specially selected to form the content of a Topical Volume. The book does not dwell at length upon topics of great importance such as Sharpless epoxidation, or upon the control of stereochemistry through catalytic reduction of double bonds. These subjects have been exhaustively surveyed elsewhere. Instead it concentrates upon those topics that appear to be 'up and coming'. Only time can tell if all will be adopted as widely and successfully as their predecessors, but it now seems clear that chemists have at their disposal an ever increasing and formidable array of methods to effect total topological control of even the most complex target molecule. This book, written by some of the best young chemists, concentrating upon work in their own subject areas, provides a snap shot of the current 'state of play' in this a key test of their scientific ingenuity. In the Cumulative Index will be found the entire contents of the 2nd edition and both of the supplements, together with a list of main titles and chapter headings for each volume. This index will enable the reader to make better and easier searches in Rodd, which is the most compact, comprehensive and accessible survey of organic chemistry ever written.

Book The Systematic Identification of Organic Compounds

Download or read book The Systematic Identification of Organic Compounds written by Christine K. F. Hermann and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-05-09 with total page 709 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Systematic Identification of Organic Compounds A comprehensive introduction to the identification of unknown organic compounds Identifying unknown compounds is one of the most important parts of the study of chemistry. From basic characteristics such as melting and/or boiling point to more complex data generated through cutting-edge techniques, the range of possible methods for identifying unknown organic compounds is substantial. The utility of a research reference which compiles known techniques and characteristics of possible compounds is clear. The Systematic Identification of Organic Compounds provides such a reference, designed to teach a hands-on approach in the chemistry lab. It takes readers step-by-step through the process of identifying an unknown compound and elucidating its structure from infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectra in addition to solubility characteristics, melting point, boiling point, and classification tests. The result is an essential overview for advanced chemistry students looking to understand this exciting area of laboratory work. Readers of the ninth edition of The Systematic Identification of Organic Compounds will also find: A detailed chapter on safety, personal protection equipment, chemical storage, safety data sheets, and other safety concerns New NMR, IR, and mass spectra with detailed explanations on interpretation Questions at the end of each chapter designed to facilitate and reinforce progression, keyed to a companion website for instructors Tables of known compounds including data relevant for identification Companion website with structural problems from experimental data for students to practice how to reason and solve The Systematic Identification of Organic Compounds is a useful reference for advanced undergraduates and graduate students studying organic chemistry, organic spectroscopy, and related subjects.
