Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The safety of building occupants in fire emergencies depends on both the fire protection features of the building and the actions of the occupants. Until recently fire protection experts have relied mainly on experience and intuition regarding the capabilities and actions of building occupants in the development of fire protection systems and training programs. Research projects underway can assist the fire protection experts by providing them with needed information to supplemant their experience and intuition. This report contains summaries of some of the recent research in this field as reported at an international seminar on the subject. It also contains the invited papers presented at the seminar on the topic of panic.

Book Psychology of Aggression

Download or read book Psychology of Aggression written by James P. Morgan and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2005 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aggression may be defined as: 1) The act of initiating hostilities or invasion; 2) The practice or habit of launching attacks; or 3) The practice or habit of launching attacks. Aggression is one of the most important and most controversial kinds of motivation. Its use as a category in the psychology of motivation has often been criticised, because it is clear that it encompasses a vast range of phenomena, from modern war to squabbles between individuals. There is an important familial component to aggression, antisocial behaviour, crime, and violence. Essentially all people are in some way affected by aggression, whether they are targets of it, engage in it themselves, or are charged with observing and controlling it in others. Thus aggression is of concern to victims, perpetrators, and those professionals charged with its treatment because of personal safety, well-being, or obligation. This new book examines the foundations and manifestations of aggression.

Book Mass Panic and Social Attachment

Download or read book Mass Panic and Social Attachment written by Anthony R. Mawson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do humans behave when under threat of attack or disaster? How does the social context affect individual behavior? Anthony Mawson provides an illuminating examination of individual and collective behavior under conditions of stress and danger, in response to both natural and manmade threats and disasters. Opening with a question about the interpretation of "mass panic" in combat , the book gradually unfolds into a multidisciplinary analysis of the psychobiological basis of social relationships and the neural organization of motivation and emotion. Mawson provides a comprehensive review and synthesis of the mass panic and disaster literature and offers a social attachment model, that recognizes the fundamentally gregarious nature of human beings and the primacy of attachments. He argues that the typical response to threat and danger is neither fight nor flight, nor social breakdown, but increased affiliation and camaraderie. This book is unique in addressing the behavioral and social aspects of threat and disaster. It will appeal to social scientists across a range of disciplines, to public administrators, and to disaster and public health professionals.
