Book excerpt: The present book covers topics both on fluvial and lagoon morphodynamics. The first part is dedicated to tidal environments. Topics include an overview of main morphological features and mechanisms of estuaries and tidal channels and a model devoted to investigate flow field pattern and bed topography in tidal meandering channels and a comparison with recent observational evidence of meanders within different tidal environments. The general failure of Bagnold hypothesis when applied to equilibrium bedload transport at even relatively modest transverse slope is demonstrated. A new model is then proposed based on an empirical entrainment formulation of bed grains.

Book Virtual Goods

Download or read book Virtual Goods written by Rüdiger Grimm and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virtual goods is one of the most important topics for research, development, and implementation. It has influence on technology, business, and politics. While the discussion on legal aspects is highly political, new technologies are coming up almost daily, such as incentive communication, PDP networks, watermarks, fingerprints, usage control languages, etc. Finally, some business models adopt these new technologies such as the PotatoSystem (one of the basic models for the Virtual Goods Workshop since 2003); others try to utilise DRM in a more effective way, such as the open Mobile alliance, ori tunes. This book presents the latest ideas in the field.

Book EBOOK Understanding Alternative Media

Download or read book EBOOK Understanding Alternative Media written by Olga Bailey and published by McGraw-Hill Education (UK). This book was released on 2007-12-16 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are alternative media? What roles do alternative media play in pluralistic, democratic societies? What are the similarities and differences between alternative media, community media, civil society media and rhizomatic media? How do alternative media work in practice? This clear and concise text offers a one-stop guide through the complex political, social and economic debates that surround alternative media and provides a fresh and insightful look at the renewed importance of this form of communication. Combing diverse case studies from countries including the UK, North America and Brazil, the authors propose an original theoretical framework to help understand the subject. Looking at both ‘old’ and ‘new’ media, the book argues for the importance of an alternative media and suggests a political agenda as a way of broadening its scope. Understanding Alternative Media is valuable reading for students in media, journalism and communications studies, researchers, academics, and journalists.
