Book Searches for New Physics Using High Mass Dimuons at the CDF II Experiment

Download or read book Searches for New Physics Using High Mass Dimuons at the CDF II Experiment written by Müge Karagöz Ünel and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Collider Detector at Fermilab collected approximately 200 pb -1 of Tevatron pp¯ collision data at s = 1.96 TeV between spring 2002 and fall 2003. We present results for searches for new physics in the dimuon final state using these data. The searches include heavy neutral particles predicted within extended gauge groups (various Z's), Technicolor (vector mesons), R-parity violating Supersymmetry (scalar neutrino), and warped extra dimensions (Randall-Sundrum gravitons). We present 95% Confidence Level (C.L.) upper limits on the production cross section times the branching ratio of new particles as a function of the dimuon invariant mass and place 95% C.L. lower mass bounds on the particles. Current limits exceed published limits of previous direct searches in the dimuon channel. We also pioneered search strategies and exploration of some models. Limit results from the electron and muon combined channels are also presented.

Book excerpt: The authors report on the first results from the CDF experiment on search for physics beyond the Standard Model using data from the upgraded TeVatron collider running p{bar p} collisions at (square root)s = 1960 GeV. These first results, although obtained with a total integrated luminosity lower than the total integrated luminosity collected during Run I, are already competitive if not better, due to the increase in the center of mass energy and the improved detector capability.

Book Physics at the Terascale

Download or read book Physics at the Terascale written by Ian Brock and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-05-04 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by authors working at the forefront of research, this accessible treatment presents the current status of the field of collider-based particle physics at the highest energies available, as well as recent results and experimental techniques. It is clearly divided into three sections; The first covers the physics -- discussing the various aspects of the Standard Model as well as its extensions, explaining important experimental results and highlighting the expectations from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The second is dedicated to the involved technologies and detector concepts, and the third covers the important - but often neglected - topics of the organisation and financing of high-energy physics research. A useful resource for students and researchers from high-energy physics.

Book Proceedings of the 31st International Conference on High Energy Physics ICHEP 2002

Download or read book Proceedings of the 31st International Conference on High Energy Physics ICHEP 2002 written by S. Bentvelsen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 1004 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first precision measurements on CP violation in the B system are reported. Both the BELLE and the BABAR collaboration presented, among others, results for sin 2ß with much improved accuracy. Results from the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, SNO, also deserve to be mentioned. The convincing evidence of solar neutrino oscillations had been presented by SNO prior to the conference; a full presentation was given at the conference. An incredibly precise measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is reported, a fresh result from the Brookhaven National Laboratory. Apart from these distinct physics highlights, there are also the first results from the new Tevatron run and from the relativistic heavy ion collider RHIC. Theorists write of our ever better understanding of the Standard Model and of what might lie beyond. Risky as it is to highlight only a couple of exciting subjects, it is merely meantto whet the appetite for further reading.

Book CDF Searches for New Phenomena

Download or read book CDF Searches for New Phenomena written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present results of recent searches for new physics using the CDF detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Presented are searches for Higgs →??, as well as more general searches in?? + X where X is /E{sub T}, jets, charged leptons, b-quarks or extra photons. The CDF ee??/E{sub T} candidate event is discussed along with estimates of the expected rates in the Standard Model. Other searches for SUSY, Higgs and Technicolor look for particles which decay to vector bosons and b-quarks.

Book Searches for New Physics at CDF

Download or read book Searches for New Physics at CDF written by Mario Paolo Giordani and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The search for physics beyond the Standard Model is one of the primary motivations of the Run II at the Tevatron. The CDF collaboration has been very active in this field by searching in a variety of final states for signals of new physics processes. The observation of no significant deviation from the Standard Model has led to limits on the cross-sections of the considered processes, which, in turn, have been used to constrain several models that predict such new physics scenarios.

Book Searches in Dilepton Final States at CDF

Download or read book Searches in Dilepton Final States at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Event signatures with two oppositely or same-sign charged leptons are predicted in many new physics scenarios. Such events could arise from chargino-neutralino production, in decays of pair produced supersymmetric top quarks, additional massive vector bosons or exotic heavy quarks. We present the most recent results from the CDF experiment on searches for physics beyond the Standard Model in events with two leptons in the final state produced in p{bar p} collisions at (square root)s = 1.96 TeV at Fermilab Tevatron.

Book Global Search for New Physics with 2 0 Fb88 1 at CDF

Download or read book Global Search for New Physics with 2 0 Fb88 1 at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data collected in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron are searched for indications of new electroweak-scale physics. Rather than focusing on particular new physics scenarios, CDF data are analyzed for discrepancies with the standard model prediction. A model-independent approach (VISTA) considers gross features of the data, and is sensitive to new large cross-section physics. Further sensitivity to new physics is provided by two additional algorithms: a Bump Hunter searches invariant mass distributions for 'bumps' that could indicate resonant production of new particles; and the Sleuth procedure scans for data excesses at large summed transverse momentum. This combined global search for new physics in 2.0 fb−1 of p{bar p} collisions at (square root)s = 1.96 TeV reveals no indication of physics beyond the standard model.

Book Search for New Physics in Trilepton Events and Limits on the Associated Chargino neutralino Production at CDF

Download or read book Search for New Physics in Trilepton Events and Limits on the Associated Chargino neutralino Production at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We perform a search for new physics using final states consisting of three leptons and a large imbalance in transverse momentum resulting from proton-antiproton collisions at 1.96 TeV center-of-mass energy. We use data corresponding to 5.8 fb-1 of integrated luminosity recorded by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron collider. Our main objective is to investigate possible new low-momentum (down to 5 GeV/c) multi-leptonic final states not investigated by LHC experiments. Relative to previous CDF analyses, we expand the geometric and kinematic coverage of electrons and muons and utilize tau leptons that decay hadronically. Inclusion of tau leptons is particularly important for supersymmetry (SUSY) searches. The results are consistent with standard-model predictions. By optimizing our event selection to increase sensitivity to the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) SUSY model, we set limits on the associated production of chargino and neutralino, the SUSY partners of the electroweak gauge bosons. We exclude cross sections up to 0.1 pb and chargino masses up to 168 GeV/c2 at 95% CL, for a suited set of mSUGRA parameters. We also exclude a region of the two-dimensional space of the masses of the neutralino and the supersymmetric partner of the tau lepton, not previously excluded at the Tevatron.
