Book Handbook of Radioactivity Analysis

Download or read book Handbook of Radioactivity Analysis written by Michael F. L'Annunziata and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2020-03-03 with total page 1110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Radioactivity Analysis: Radiation Physics and Detectors, Volume One, and Radioanalytical Applications, Volume Two, Fourth Edition, is an authoritative reference on the principles, practical techniques and procedures for the accurate measurement of radioactivity - everything from the very low levels encountered in the environment, to higher levels measured in radioisotope research, clinical laboratories, biological sciences, radionuclide standardization, nuclear medicine, nuclear power, and fuel cycle facilities, and in the implementation of nuclear forensic analysis and nuclear safeguards. It includes sample preparation techniques for all types of matrices found in the environment, including soil, water, air, plant matter and animal tissue, and surface swipes.Users will find a detailed discussion of our current understanding of the atomic nucleus, nuclear stability and decay, nuclear radiation, and the interaction of radiation with matter relating to the best methods for radionuclide detection and measurement. - Spans two volumes, Radiation Physics and Detectors and Radioanalytical Applications - Includes a much-expanded treatment of calculations required in the measurement of radionuclide decay, energy of decay, nuclear reactions, radiation attenuation, nuclear recoil, cosmic radiation, and synchrotron radiation - Includes the latest advances in liquid and solid scintillation analysis, alpha- and gamma spectrometry, mass spectrometric analysis, gas ionization and nuclear track analysis, and neutron detection and measurement - Covers high-sample-throughput microplate techniques and multi-detector assay methods

Book 10th Conference on the Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics

Download or read book 10th Conference on the Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics written by Marvin L. Marshak and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2010-01-11 with total page 1010 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CIPANP 2009 explores areas of common interest between nuclear physicists, high energy (particle) physicists and astrophysicists. These areas range from studies of the strong interactions that bind nuclei together to physics of the very early Universe and include such topics as neutrinos, hadron physics, spin physics, heavy ion physics, QCD and heavy flavor physics. The Conference papers include descriptions of searches for "new physics", phenomena that cannot be accounted for by current theories.

Book Seesaw 25 Proceedings Of The International Conference On The Seesaw Mechanism

Download or read book Seesaw 25 Proceedings Of The International Conference On The Seesaw Mechanism written by Jean Orloff and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005-04-22 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the progress made in the study of the Seesaw mechanism and of its implications over the past 25 years, as well as the recent theoretical developments in the understanding of the measured pattern of neutrino masses and mixings. Observable implications of the Seesaw mechanism like leptogenesis or lepton flavour violation in supersymmetric theories are discussed, and the key aspects of the vast experimental program aimed at determining the neutrino parameters and properties are reviewed. The book provides an up-to-date and in-depth perspective on neutrino masses and on the associated physics in the Seesaw scenario.

Book Why Search for Double Beta Decay

Download or read book Why Search for Double Beta Decay written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Searching for neutrinoless double beta decay is the only known practical method for trying to determine whether neutrinos are their own antiparticles. The theoretical motivation for supposing that they may indeed be their own antiparticles is described. The reason that it is so difficult to ascertain experimentally whether they are or are not is explained, as is the special sensitivity of neutrinoless double beta decay. The potential implications of the observation of this reaction for neutrino mass and for the physics of neutrinos is discussed.
