Download or read book Search for the Cabibbo sup p ressed D Meson Decays meson to pion pion 0 and meson to kaon pi 0 written by Dirk Hufnagel and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: We present a data analysis using 124.3 fb−1 of data from the BaBar detector. The analysis is a measurement of the branching fractions for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay mode BF([meson] [to] [pion] [pion]0) = (1.21 " 0.10 (stat.) " 0.08 (sys.) " 0.08 (pdg)) x 10−3 and for the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay mode BF([meson]+ [to] [kaon]+ [pion]0)= (2.11 " 0.43 (stat.) " 0.15 (sys.) " 0.16 (pdg)) x 10−4, where the first error is statistical, the second is systematic and the last is due to the D absolute branching fraction scale.

Book excerpt: Abstract: (N.b.: In the following abstract, non-ALA braces have been replaced with brackets.) Using 13.7 fb[-1] from the CLEO II and II. V detectors, we measure the branching ratios for two singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes: BR(D -> pi+ pi0) = (1.3 +/- 0.2)*10[-3] and BR(D+ -> Ks K+) = (5.2 +/- 0.6)*10[-3]. We also determine an upper limit on the branching ratio of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay mode BR(D+ -> K+ pi0)

Book D sup 0 anti D sup 0 Mixing and Doubly Cabibbo suppressed Decays of the D sup

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes results from Fermilab experiment E791 on D[sup 0]-[anti D][sup 0] mixing and doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays of the D[sup +] meson. In order to search for D[sup 0]-[anti D][sup 0] mixing, the authors use only D[sup 0] mesons from D[sup *+] decays in which case the charge of the pion from the D[sup *+] decay identifies the charm quantum number of the D[sup 0] at birth. When the D[sup 0] decays, the charge of the kaon identifies the charm quantum number and this way one can tell if mixing has occurred. This kind of search can be carried out by CLEO II as well and their conclusion was that there is some evidence of a wrong sign signal (0.77 [+-] 0.25 [+-] 0.25)% of the right sign signal. However, because of a lack of lifetime information, they cannot distinguish between doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decays which are expected at the level of the observed signal and mixing. They use their excellent lifetime sensitivity to obtain separate limits. During the past year, the authors have been working on extracting D[sup +] doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay signals from E791's data sample. These decays are interesting both because they have never been observed and because definite predictions have been made about their rates, based on models of D mesons and their decay mechanisms. Preliminary analyses of 1/3 of the data have now been completed. Figure 3 shows the Cabibbo-favored signal D[sup +] [yields] K[sup [minus]][pi][sup +][pi][sup +] and the next figure shows the signal in the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed mode D[sup +] [yields] K[sup +][pi][sup [minus]][pi][sup [minus]].

Naik and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I present physics concepts, which are useful to understand our analyses, and describe the CLEO III and CLEO-c experiments at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. I also present motivations for a Dalitz plot analysis of the Cabibbo-suppressed charmed meson decay mode D0 → K+K-pi 0 at CLEO. The analysis uses 9.0 fb-1 of data collected at s ≈ 10.58 GeV with the CLEO III detector. We find the strong phase difference deltaD ≡ argAD 0→K*+K- AD0→K*+K - = 332° +/- 8° +/- 11° and relative amplitude rD ≡ AD0→ K*+K-A D0→K*+K- = 0.52 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.04. This measurement indicates significant destructive interference between D0 → K+(K-pi 0)K*- and D0 → K- (K+pi0) K*+ in the D 0 → K+ K-pi0 Dalitz plot region where these two modes overlap. The fit includes the K*+/- and &phis; resonances and a non-resonant amplitude, and the measured fit fractions for each resonance (with statistical uncertainty only) are (46.1 +/- 3.1)% for the K*+, (12.3 +/- 2.2)% for the K*-, (14.9 +/- 1.6)% for the &phis;, and (36.0 +/- 3.7)% for the non-resonant contribution. We find deltaD = 313° +/- 9° (stat.) and an amplitude ratio of rD = 0.52 +/- 0.05 (stat.) from a second fit which substitutes scalar kappa+/- (mass 878 MeV/c2, width 499 MeV/c2) amplitudes for the non-resonant amplitude. The measured fit fractions for each resonance (with statistical uncertainty only) are (48.1 +/- 4.5)% for the K*+, (12.9 +/- 2.6)% for the K*-, (16.1 +/- 1.9)% for the &phis;, (12.6 +/- 5.8)% for the kappa+, and (11.1 +/- 4.7)% for the kappa-. We also investigate the D 0 → K+K -pi0 Dalitz plot in 281 pb-1 of data collected at s ≈ 3.77 GeV with the CLEO-c detector. We find results which are consistent with the CLEO III analysis. I conclude by summarizing our results and present a brief appendix detailing the K-matrix formalism.

Book Analysis of the Neutral D meson Decay to a Neutral Kaon and Two Neutral Pions

Download or read book Analysis of the Neutral D meson Decay to a Neutral Kaon and Two Neutral Pions written by Norman A. Lowrey and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents a Dalitz plot analysis of D0 to K0S PI0 PI0 using the CLEO-c data set of 818 inverse picobarns of positron-electron collisions accumulated at center-of-mass energy 3.77 GeV. This corresponds to about 3 million D0-anti-D0 pairs from which we select 1260 tagged candidates with a background of roughly 6%. We find that S-wave features dominate the PI0 PI0 axis of the Dalitz plot, contributing about one-third of the total decay rate, while the K*(892) is the dominant K0S PI0 contribution. Using three tag modes and correcting for quantum correlations we determine that the D0 to K0S PI0 PI0 branching ratio is 1.059% with a statistical uncertainty of 0.049% and a systematic uncertainty of 0.050%.

Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.
