Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for the Standard Model Higgs boson produced in association with a W or Z boson, and decaying to a bb pair has been performed with ATLAS detector. The data were collected in proton-proton collisions during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 79.8 fb−1. Three channels containing zero, one and two charged leptons (electrons or muons) have been considered to target each of the leptonic decays of the W or Z boson, Z->vv, W->lv et Z->ll, referred to as as the 0-lepton, 1-lepton and 2-lepton channels, respectively. For a Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV, an excess of events over the expected background from other Standard Model processes is found with an observed significance of 4.9 standard deviations, compared to an expectation of 4.3 standard deviations. The ratio of the measured signal events to the Standard Model expectation equal 1.16 +0.27/-0.25 = 1.16 +/-0.16(stat) +0.21/-0.19(syst). The result is also combined with the other results from the searches for the Higgs boson in the bb 18 decay mode in Run 1 and Run 2, the combination yields an observed (expected) significance of 5.4 (5.5) 20 standard deviations, and therefore provides a direct observation of the Higgs boson decay into a bb pair. In addition, a combination of Run 2 results searching for the Higgs boson produced in association with a W or Z boson yields an observed (expected) significance of 5.3 (4.8) standard deviations, and therefore provides a direct observation of Higgs boson being produced in association with a W or Z boson.

Book Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson Produced in Association with Tt and Decaying Into Bb at 8 TeV with the ATLAS Detector Using the Matrix Element Method

Download or read book Search for the Standard Model Higgs Boson Produced in Association with Tt and Decaying Into Bb at 8 TeV with the ATLAS Detector Using the Matrix Element Method written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for the Standard Model Higgs boson produced in association with a pair of top quarks (ttH) is presented. The analysis uses 20.3 fb-1 of pp collision data at √s = 8 TeV, collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider during 2012. The search is designed for the H → bb decay mode and is performed in the single lepton (electrons or muons) decay channel of the top quark pair. In order to improve the sensitivity of the search, events are categorised according to their jet and b-tagged jet multiplicities into nine different analysis regions. A matrix element method is deve...

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, a search is reported for Higgs boson decay to ?+?- using data with an integrated luminosity of 24.8 fb-1 collected with the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at √s = 7 and 8 TeV at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The observed dimuon invariant mass distribution is consistent with the Standard Model background-only hypothesis in the 120–150 GeV search range. For a Higgs boson with a mass of 125.5 GeV, the observed (expected) upper limit at the 95% confidence level is 7.0 (7.2) times the Standard Model expectation. This corresponds to an upper limit on the branching ratio BR(H→?+?-) of 1.5×10-3.

Book Search for Production of Dark Matter in Association with a Higgs Boson Decaying to Bb with the ATLAS Detector

Download or read book Search for Production of Dark Matter in Association with a Higgs Boson Decaying to Bb with the ATLAS Detector written by Matthew Baca and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using 3.2 fb^-1 of sqrt(s) =13TeV proton-proton data collected in 2015 with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider, new limits were imposed on the associated production of Dark Matter with a 125GeV Higgs boson which decays into a pair of b-quarks. The final state of the signal is a pair of b-quark jets and large Missing Transverse Momentum attributed to the DM escaping the detector. The dominant backgrounds were simulated. These were subject to selection requirements to increase signal to background ratio. Three regions were designated based on the number of leptons in the event. 0 lepton events made up the signal region. Events with 1 and 2 leptons were control regions. Similar selection requirements were applied to the control regions as in the signal region, in order to examine a similar phase space. A blinding region was established in the 0 lepton region over the mbb distribution to mask where a reconstructed 125GeV Higgs boson would appear. The control regions and the side bands in the signal region were then fit to the mbb data distribution. Unblinding of the signal region did not result in the discovery of the decay channel, but allowed limits to be imposed.

Book Measurements of WH and ZH Production in the H bb Decay Channel in Pp Collisions at 13TeV with the ATLAS Detector

This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Measurements of the Standard Model Higgs boson decaying into a bb ̄ pair and produced in association with a W or Z boson decaying into leptons, using proton-proton collision data collected between 2015 and 2018 by the ATLAS detector, are presented. The measurements use collisions produced by the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of s√=13TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139fb−1. The production of a Higgs boson in association with a W or Z boson is established with observed (expected) significances of 4.0 (4.1) and 5.3 (5.1) standard deviations, respectively. Cross-sections of associated production of a Higgs boson decaying into bottom quark pairs with an electroweak gauge boson, W or Z, decaying into leptons are measured as a function of the gauge boson transverse momentum in kinematic fiducial volumes. The cross-section measurements are all consistent with the Standard Model expectations, and the total uncertainties vary from 30% in the high gauge boson transverse momentum regions to 85% in the low regions. Limits are subsequently set on the parameters of an effective Lagrangian sensitive to modifications of the WH and ZH processes as well as the Higgs boson decay into bb ̄
