Book Search for Supersymmetry in Trilepton Final States with the D0 Detector

Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry in Trilepton Final States with the D0 Detector written by Marc Hohlfeld and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The data taken by the D0 experiment at the proton-antiproton collider Tevatron has been used to search for signatures with two or more leptons and missing transverse energy as they are expected for the decay of pair produced Charginos and Neutralinos. No excess above the Standard Model prediction has been observed and the results have been used to set mass limits for these particles.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The search for signals from Supersymmetry at hadron colliders has largely been centered on the search for squark and gluino production, usually through events with large missing transverse energy (E{sub t}). A promising alternative at the Tevatron is the search for production of the lightest chargino ({tilde W}1) and next-to-lightest neutralino ({tilde Z}2), with the assumptions that R-parity is conserved and the lightest neutralino ({tilde Z}1) is the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). Although the mass limit established by LEP experiments, 2M{sub {tilde W}1}>45 GeV/c2, excludes the on-shell process {anti p}p 2!W{sup {+-}} 2!{tilde W}1 + {tilde Z}2, the off-shell process W{sup {+-}} 2!{tilde W}1{tilde Z}2 can have a sizeable rate due to large WW{tilde W}1{tilde Z}2 coupling. Here, the status of a search for the pair production of the lightest chargino and second lightest neutralino states of the minimal supersymmetric model is presented. The authors searched for four tri-lepton final states: eee, ee[mu], e[mu][mu], and [mu][mu][mu], all with missing transverse energy.

Book Search for Evidence of Supersymmetry in the Like sign Dimuon Channel at the D0 Experiment

Download or read book Search for Evidence of Supersymmetry in the Like sign Dimuon Channel at the D0 Experiment written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supersymmetry (SUSY) is a proposed symmetry between fermions and bosons. If this symmetry does exist, it is clearly broken since only half of the particle spectrum is observed. One model which provides a simple breaking mechanism is called minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) inspired SUSY. One clean final state predicted by this model is a trilepton final state from chargino and neutralino decays. In this analysis, these events are sought in 239±16 pb-1 of D0 Run II data by requiring like-sign dimuon pairs. Requiring only two muons increases the signal acceptance, and adding the like-sign requirement reduces the Standard Model background from Drell-Yan dimuon pairs and the various resonances in the dimuon spectrum. The reach into some parts of mSUGRA parameter space will be greater when searching with the like-sign dilepton final state than the trilepton final state. Combining results from a search in the like-sign dilepton channels with searches in the trilepton channels provides increased sensitivity in the search for supersymmetry. In this dissertation, the best-ever D limit on the total cross section for associated chargino and neutralino production with leptonic final states is presented.

Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry in Final States with Leptons with the ATLAS Detector at the Large Hadron Collider written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After a short review of the Standard Model of Elementary Particle Physics and its minimal supersymmetric extension, the MSSM, a global analysis of two highly simplified supersymmetric models, the CMSSM and the NUHM1 is presented, with a focus on the fine-tuning of these models. A new, phenomenologically motivated measure for fine-tuning is introduced. In addition, a search for supersymmetry in final states with four leptons is presented, where a procedure for the consideration of trigger efficiencies with a focus on the calculation of uncertainties on the sum of event weights is given. Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry and Leptoquark States in written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are presented on the search for two types of exotic particles. First, a mass limit is given for first generation leptoquarks assuming pair production with the final state being either two electrons and two jets or one electron, a neutrino and two jets. This is followed by the presentation of a preliminary result on a search for the supersymmetric partners of the W" and Z{sup o}, the lightest chargino, W symmetry particle 1, and the second lightest neutralino, Z symmetry particle 2 via a trilepton signature.

Book Search for the Trilepton Signal of the Minimal Supergravity Model in D0 Run II

Download or read book Search for the Trilepton Signal of the Minimal Supergravity Model in D0 Run II written by Meta Binder and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for associated chargino neutralino pair production is performed in the trilepton decay channel q{bar q} {yields} {tilde {chi}}{sub 1}{sup {+-}} {tilde {chi}}{sub 2}{sup 0} {yields} {ell}{sup {+-}} {nu} {tilde {chi}}{sub 1}{sup 0} {mu}{sup {+-}} {mu}{sup {-+}} {tilde {chi}}{sub 1}{sup 0}, using data collected with the D0 detector at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of {approx}300 pb{sup -1}. A dedicated event selection is applied to all samples including the data sample and the Monte Carlo simulated samples for the Standard Model background and the Supersymmetry signal. Events with two muons plus an additional isolated track, replacing the requirement of a third charged lepton in the event, are analyzed. Additionally, selected events must have a large amount of missing transverse energy due to the neutrino and the two {tilde {chi}}{sub 1}{sup 0}. After all selection cuts are applied, 2 data events are found, with an expected number of background events of 1.75 {+-} 0.34 (stat.) {+-} 0.46 (syst.). No evidence for Supersymmetry is found and limits on the production cross section times leptonic branching fraction are set. When the presented analysis is considered in combination with three other decay channels, no evidence for Supersymmetry is found. Limits on the production cross section times leptonic branching fraction are set. A lower chargino mass limit of 117 GeV at 95% CL is then derived for the mSUGRA model in a region of parameter space with enhanced leptonic branching fractions.

Book Searches for Supersymmetry in Multilepton Final States with the ATLAS Detector

Download or read book Searches for Supersymmetry in Multilepton Final States with the ATLAS Detector written by Steven Farrell and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two searches for supersymmetry in multilepton final states are presented using pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV in the ATLAS detector. First, a search for electroweak production of charginos and neutralinos in the three-lepton plus missing transverse momentum channel is detailed with an emphasis on the fake-lepton background estimation technique. No significant excess above the Standard Model prediction is observed in the signal regions. Exclusion limits are thus placed on simplified models of chargino1-neutralino2 production and decays via intermediate sleptons, SM gauge bosons, and Higgs bosons. The results are also interpreted in terms of the phenomenological MSSM. Next, a search for R-parity violating and R-parity conserving supersymmetric scenarios in the four-lepton channel is presented. No significant excess is observed, so exclusion limits are placed R-parity violating simplified models in which the lightest supersymmetric particle is the lightest neutralino, which promptly decays to leptons. Exclusion limits are also placed on R-parity conserving simplified models of neutralino2-neutralino3 production.

Book Search for Supersymmetry in the All hadronic Final State Using Top Quark Tagging in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book Search for Supersymmetry in the All hadronic Final State Using Top Quark Tagging in Pp Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search is presented for supersymmetry in all-hadronic events with missing transverse momentum based on tagging of top quarks. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 inverse femtobarns of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. Search regions are defined using the properties of reconstructed jets, the presence of bottom and top quark candidates, and an imbalance in transverse momentum. With no statistically significant excess of events observed beyond the expected contributions from the standard model, we set exclusion limits at 95% confidence level on the masses of new particles in the context of simplified models of direct and gluino-mediated top squark production. For direct top squark production with decays to a top quark and a neutralino, top squark masses up to 740 GeV and neutralino masses up to 240 GeV are excluded. Gluino masses up to 1550 GeV and neutralino masses up to 900 GeV are excluded for models of gluino pair production where each gluino decays to a top-antitop quark pair and a neutralino.
