This book was released on 2008 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the results of a search for pair production of scalar top quarks ({tilde t}1) in an R-parity violating supersymmetric scenario using 322 pb−1 of p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV collected by the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab. We assume each {tilde t}1 decays into a? lepton and a b quark with a branching ratio?, and that the final state contains either an electron or a muon from a leptonic? decay, a hadronically decaying? lepton, and two or more jets. Two candidate events pass our final selection criteria, consistent with the expectation from standard model processes. We present upper limits on the cross section times branching ratio squared?({tilde t}1{bar {tilde t}}1) x?2 as a function of the stop mass m({tilde t}1). Assuming? = 1, we set a 95% confidence level limit m({tilde t}1)> 153 GeV=c2 obtained using a next-to-leading order cross section. These limits are also fully applicable to the case of a pair produced third generation scalar leptoquark decaying into a? lepton and a b quark.

Download or read book Search for Pair Production of the Scalar Top Quark in the Electron muon Final State written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report the result of a search for the pair production of the lightest supersymmetric partner of the top quark ({tilde t}1) in p{bar p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1. The scalar top quarks are assumed to decay into a b quark, a charged lepton, and a scalar neutrino ({tilde {nu}}), and the search is performed in the electron plus muon final state. No significant excess of events above the standard model prediction is detected, and improved exclusion limits at the 95% C.L. are set in the (M{sub {tilde t}1}, M{sub {tilde {nu}}}) mass plane.

This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the results of a search for pair production of the supersymmetric partner of the top quark (the stop quark ≈1) decaying to a b-quark and a chargino {tilde {chi}}1{sup {+-}} with a subsequent {tilde {chi}}1{sup {+-}} decay into a neutralino {tilde {chi}}1°, lepton l, and neutrino [nu]. Using a data sample corresponding to 2.7 fb−1 of integrated luminosity of p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV collected by the CDF II detector, we reconstruct the mass of candidate stop events and fit the observed mass spectrum to a combination of standard model processes and stop quark signal. We find no evidence for {tilde t}1{bar {tilde t}}1 production and set 95% C.L. limits on the masses of the stop quark and the neutralino for several values of the chargino mass and the branching ratio [Beta]({tilde {chi}}1{sup {+-}} → {tilde {chi}}1°l{sup {+-}}[nu]).

Book Search for Pair Production of Third generation Scalar Leptoquarks and Top Squarks in Proton proton Collisions at arrow

Download or read book Search for Pair Production of Third generation Scalar Leptoquarks and Top Squarks in Proton proton Collisions at arrow written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for pair production of third-generation scalar leptoquarks and supersymmetric top quark partners, top squarks, in final states involving tau leptons and bottom quarks is presented. The search uses events from a data sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb-1, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC with [arrow]" = 8 TeV. The number of observed events is found to be in agreement with the expected standard model background. Third-generation scalar leptoquarks with masses below 740 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level, assuming a 100% branching fraction for the leptoquark decay to a tau lepton and a bottom quark. In addition, this mass limit applies directly to top squarks decaying via an R-parity violating coupling [lambda]'333. The search also considers a similar signature from top squarks undergoing a chargino-mediated decay involving the R-parity violating coupling [lambda]'3jk. Each top squark decays to a tau lepton, a bottom quark, and two light quarks. Top squarks in this model with masses below 580 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level. The constraint on the leptoquark mass is the most stringent to date, and this is the first search for top squarks decaying via [lambda]'3jk.

Book Study on the Top Quark Pair Production Mechanism in 1 96 TeV Proton antiproton Collisions

Download or read book Study on the Top Quark Pair Production Mechanism in 1 96 TeV Proton antiproton Collisions written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of the top quark pair production mechanism in proton-antiproton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV is described. The main subjects are the measurements of the top quark pair production cross section, the top quark mass and a search for a new particle decaying to the top quark pair. The analyses are based on 1.9 fb−1 of data collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) Run II experiment between March 2002 and May 2007, using the lepton+jets events. The measured top quark pair production cross section is 8.2 ± 0.5 (stat.) ± 0.8 (syst.) ± 0.5 (lum.) pb, which is slightly higher than the standard model prediction at the top mass of 175 GeV/c2. The top quark mass is an important parameter in the standard model, and also in the experimental studies. The measured top quark mass if 171.6 ± 2.0 (stat.) ± 1.3(syst.) GeV/c2. Finally, they report on a search for a new gauge boson decaying to t{bar t}, which interferes with the standard model gluon in the q{bar q} --> t{bar t} production process. They call such a hypothetical particle a 'Massive Gluon'. The observed t{bar t} invariant mass distribution is consistent with the standard model expectations, and also the measured massive gluon coupling strength with quarks is consistent within a statistical fluctuation of the standard model expectation in the wide range of the massive gluon masses and widths. They set the upper and lower limits on the coupling strength of the massive gluon.

Download or read book A Search for Scalar Bottom Quarks from Gluino Decays in Anti p P Collisions at S written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We searched for scalar bottom quarks in 156 pb−1 of {bar p}p collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV recorded by the CDF II experiment at the Tevatron. Scalar bottom quarks can be produced from gluino decays in R-parity conserving models of supersymmetry when the mass of the gluino exceeds that of the scalar bottom quark. Then, a scalar bottom quark can decay into a bottom quark and a neutralino. To search for this scenario, we investigated events with large missing transverse energy and at least three jets, two or more of which were identified as containing a secondary vertex from the hadronization of b quarks. We found four candidate events, where 2.6 ± 0.7 are expected from standard model processes, and placed 95% confidence level lower limits on gluino and scalar bottom quark masses of up to 280 and 240 GeV/c2, respectively.

Download or read book Measurements of Top Quark Pair Production Cross Section in Proton Anti proton Collisions at S 1 2 written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation presents a new measurement of p{bar p} → t{bar t}X production at √s = 1.96 TeV using 974.2 pb−1 of data collected with the D0 detector between 2002 and 2006. We focus on the final state where the W boson from one of the top quarks decays into a [tau] lepton and its associated neutrino, while the other W boson decays into a quark-antiquark pair. We aim to select those events in which the [tau] lepton subsequently decays hadronically, meaning to one or three charged hadrons, zero or more neutral hadrons and a tau neutrino (the charge conjugate processes are implied in all of the above). The observable signature thus consists of a narrow calorimeter shower with associated track(s) characteristic of a hadronic tau decay, four or more jets, of which two are initiated by b quarks accompanying the W's in the top quark decays, and a large net missing momentum in the transverse plane due to the energetic neutrino-antineutrino pair that leave no trace in the detector media. The preliminary result for the measured cross section is: [sigma](t{bar t}) = 6.9{sub -1.2}{sup +1.2}(stat){sub -0.7}{sup +0.8}(syst) ± 0.4 (lumi) pb. This indicates that our finding is consistent with the Standard Model prediction.

This book was released on 2016 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here, results are reported from a search for the pair production of top squarks, the supersymmetric partners of top quarks, in final states with jets and missing transverse momentum. The data sample used in this search was collected by the CMS detector and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 18.9 fb–1 of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV produced by the LHC. The search features novel background suppression and prediction methods, including a dedicated top quark pair reconstruction algorithm. The data are found to be in agreement with the predicted backgrounds. Exclusion limits are set in simplified supersymmetry models with the top squark decaying to jets and an undetected neutralino, either via a top quark or through a bottom quark and chargino. Models with the top squark decaying via a top quark are excluded for top squark masses up to 755 GeV in the case of neutralino masses below 200 GeV. For decays via a chargino, top squark masses up to 620 GeV are excluded, depending on the masses of the chargino and neutralino.
