More than ever before he seems to lack the sureness of his way in life. The abundance of theories, doctrines and various philosophical, social or religious systems and moral teachings fails to provide the individual today with any clarity whatsoever. Lacking this, he turns to peripheral events, to sensational occurrences; he turns his attention to more and to glaring new models of technological products. more new things, mostly Acquiring a great multitude of these and various other things, he seems to stress his own importance, thus making an inquiry in its fundamental validity superfluous. Download or read book Earths of Distant Suns written by Michael Carroll and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-03 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the latest missions results and supported by commissioned artwork, this book explores the possible lessons we may learn from exoplanets. As the number of known Earth-like objects grows significantly, the author explores what is known about the growing roster of "pale blue dots" far afield. Aided by an increased sensitivity of the existing observatories, recent discoveries by Keck, the Hubble Space Telescope, and Kepler are examined. These findings, once thought to be closer to the realm of science fiction, have fired the imaginations of the general public as well as scientists. All of us are mesmerized by the possibility of other Earth-like worlds out there. Author Michael Carroll asks the tough questions of what the expected gain is from identifying these Earth analogs spread across the Universe and the reasons for studying them. Potentially, they could teach us about our own climate and Solar System. Also explored are the more remote options of communication between or even travel to these distant yet perhaps not so dissimilar worlds.

Download or read book Rays of the Searching Sun written by Lisa Lai-Ming Wong and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yang Mu, the recipient of the 2007 International Prize for Literature Written in Chinese, is a well-known bicultural poet. Born in Taiwan during the last phase of the Japanese occupation, his life and writing have been influenced by competing forces in the historical, political, intellectual, linguistic, and aesthetic realms. Yang Mu's humanist sensibility has offered critical insights into the dangers of binary opposition and ideological thinking. His poetry has appealed to readers worldwide and is accessible in English, French, German, Dutch, Swedish, Japanese, and Korean translations. This study of Yang Mu's poetics examines the writer's literary choices from a cross-cultural perspective, highlighting the relationship between issues of international concern and modern cultural theories. Yang Mu's dialogic lyric voice engages peoples from different eras and cultures. This is achieved by addressing contemporary crises between nations or by responding to philosophical questions about identity, memory, and time. Yang Mu's works exhibit a true transcultural outlook that will significantly contribute to the development of 21st century world poetry.

Book excerpt: During the early 1900s, Africa gradually became so populated that there were only a few places left where an adventurer may hope to flourish. But there was still the Eastern Abyssinian border, a territory challenging to infiltrate, inhabited by wild tribes. Of the many tribes inhabiting this wild land, the author writes about the Somali tribe of British Somaliland. They form one of the most prominent ethnic groups on the African continent and cover one of the vastest landmasses by a single ethnic group in Africa. The Somalis have deeply religious tendencies and are the strongest of all tribes on the border. They are considered true wanderers and the most hard-working peple ever. The author and traveler Henry A. Rayne described the tribe with great detail and accuracy. He wrote about their early history, religion, trade, location, economy, and many more.

It is not long before something draws her away from her objective and sets her on a path that aligns with Moon’s plan for her. Nyght has been with Moon since she was a child, now she will learn that there is more to being the warrior of Moon than what she thought. But when it comes down to the final conflict, will she fight, flee, or fall? Hanna has led a quiet and uneventful life. With the help of someone from her past and with the guidance of someone she has just met, she will have to face the one she left behind, Sun. If she joins Sun, she could end up losing the last thing she has, herself. But when it comes down to the final conflict, will she fight, flee, or fall? Nyght travels to the other side of the world on her first official assignment as an assassin. Mysteriously drawn to Hanna, Nyght attacks her, forcing Hanna to flee with Colton, her childhood friend.
