Book Life Death and Christian Hope

Download or read book Life Death and Christian Hope written by Daneen Warner and published by Paulist Press. This book was released on 2009 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book challenges Christians to reframe dying and death in three ways. First, Christians should acknowledge the truth about the human condition. Having done so, Christians are then free to accept lament as an important Christian practice for moving from a dependency on human hope to hope in God or divine hope. Second, with lament Christians are better able to accept death and dying in response to the "Good News" of Holy Scripture, Baptism and Eucharist. The "Good News" is "Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again"--the mystery of faith and source of Christian hope. This hope through God's grace moves Christians to love others within an eschatological community that transcends both time and place. Third, Christians transform faith communities in light of the "Good News" so that love flourishes in "daily dying" to self through beatitudinal living for others. As a result, the preparation of daily dying forms Christians to accept mortality not as the worst evil to resist in every way but rather as the final stage of a life long journey with Christ into eternal life. The book challenges Christians, both clergy and laypersons, to consider this perspective. This challenge is supported with both scriptural and theological explanations as well as practical observations for reflection from "unscientific" discussions with twenty Christians, both clergy and church member, from five different Christian traditions. +

Book The Case for Heaven and Hell Bible Study Guide plus Streaming Video

Download or read book The Case for Heaven and Hell Bible Study Guide plus Streaming Video written by Lee Strobel and published by HarperChristian Resources. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there convincing evidence for eternal life after death? If so, what will our experience be like? What will it be like to see God face to face? In this five-session video study (streaming included), Lee Strobel--journalist and award-winning author of The Case for Christ--turns his talent for investigation on the biblical and logical case for an afterlife. The reality of death shapes our lives and faith. Most of us fear it or try not to think about it, regardless of whether we believe in eternal life or not. Lee--whose rigorous faith has been shaped by his past as an atheist--first considers his old unbelief: that we have only one life and when we die, we cease to exist. What evidence is there to suggest otherwise? Based on his interviews with leading Christian philosophers, scientists, and theologians; Strobel unfolds the strongest arguments for belief in heaven, hell, and a glimpse into what these places will be like. Along the way, he explores common topics related to immortality; such as angels, Satan and demons, the reincarnation of the body, and doctrines like salvation through Christ alone. This study guide has everything you need for a full Bible study experience, including: The study guide itself--with discussion and reflection questions, video notes, and a leader's guide. An individual access code to stream all five video sessions online (you don't need to buy a DVD!). Journey with Lee Strobel in this exploration of heaven, and be drawn into a deeper understanding of the rationality and final hope of Christian beliefs. Streaming video access code included. Download or read book Resurrection Hope and the Death of Death written by Mitchell L. Chase and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2022-09-26 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Biblical Theology of Resurrection Hope from Genesis to Revelation Death is a powerful and sobering reality. While everyone must face death, it is not the end for those united with Christ. Followers of Jesus Christ have resurrection hope—the proclamation that Christ has defeated death and the promise that believers shall share in his victory. The resurrection is essential to the Christian faith and is rooted in the faithfulness of God. With scholarly insight, Mitchell L. Chase traces the theme of resurrection hope throughout Scripture, walking through each section of Scripture from the Law to Revelation. Having a proper understanding of death and resurrection will not only stir up our soberness for the reality of sin and death, but it will also motivate our praise to God. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until Death Does Its Part is a term people equate to a ceremony or consider useful only in a matrimonial vow. However, it is pertinent in the lives of Christians every day. The Light affliction that God's chosen people suffer and die to are for a more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. Death has to do its part in us, meaning the dying of one's self to the will of our creator God. When we choose to give God what he is longing for in our lives without compromise, we reap the benefits of a peaceable fruit. Death has a part in living the victorious abundant life. God's son died for us, and we must die to self without reservation. The fullness of time has come for the manifestation of the sons of God. Only those who have died to self will reap the harvest. John 3:3""7 lets us know that not only are Christians born again when we come to salvation, but we also continue dying to self as part of the sanctification process. But the dying to self is not easy and must be embraced daily with tenacity and confidence in knowing that he who brought us to this will also bring us through it. Every step on the ladder takes us up higher and the temptation, sometimes greater, but in the midst of it all, we remember the third day of being elevated. The seed that falls to the ground and die will indeed reproduce a ripe harvest and be raised as a testimony of his glory. Living out our destiny and purpose will promote us to dying a thousand deaths to this life. But we were made for this. We must accept what God is calling us to""Until Death Does Its Part!
