Book Scripted

Download or read book Scripted written by Maya Rock and published by Speak. This book was released on 2016-02 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reality is deadly when you go off script. Bliss Island seems like an idyllic place to live - especially to the people suffering on the war-torn mainland. What's not so idyllic about Bliss is the fact that the Island is a set, and everyone's life is a performance; they're all stars of a hit reality TV show, Blissful Days. Characters on the show think they're better off on Bliss than the mainland, but they're always in danger of being cut if their ratings dip too low. And no one really knows what happens to cut characters. Nettie Starling has never had great ratings, so it seems lucky when a producer offers suggestions to help her improve. But she'll soon have to decide how far she'll go to preserve her ratings ... especially when she learns what could happen to her if she doesn't.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ellie Quinn has spent most of her sixteen years behind the scenes, helping her father manage a crew of four-legged movie stars. Although she longs to be acknowledged as an animal trainer in her own right, she often gets stuck babysitting actors’ personal pets and is known around the studio as “the dog sitter for the stars.” When teen megastar Kate Montgomery’s sidekick gets fired while filming a pilot, Ellie is forced to temporarily fill-in. The producers seem to be enamored with Ellie—and so do Kate’s two love interests on the show, “it boy” Logan Canfield and brand-new actor Cam Alvarez—causing trouble on and off the set. Now Ellie must decide between living the drama in front of the camera or behind it. If she quits and the pilot fails, she and her father will have to close their failing business and move to her grandfather's lettuce farm. But if she stays on the road to stardom, it could mean losing the boy she's fallen for—and herself—in the process. Can she save the TV show and her father's business without losing everything else?

Book excerpt: In Scripting Jesus, Michael White, famed scholar of early Christian history, reveals how the gospel stories of Jesus were never meant to be straightforward historical accounts, but rather were scripted and honed as performance pieces for four different audiences with four different theological agendas. As he did as a featured presenter in two award-winning PBS Frontline documentaries (“From Jesus to Christ” and “Apocalypse!”), White engagingly explains the significance of some lesser-known aspects of The New Testament; in this case, the development of the stories of Jesus—including how the gospel writers differed from one another on facts, points of view, and goals. Readers of Elaine Pagels, Marcus Borg, John Dominic Crossan, and Bart Ehrman will find much to ponder in Scripting Jesus.

Book excerpt: From drugging kids into attention and reviving behaviorism to biometric measurements of teaching and learning Scripted Bodies exposes a brave new world of education in the age of repression. Scripted Bodies examines how corporeal control has expanded in education, how it impacts the mind and thinking, and the ways that new technologies are integral to the expansion of control. Scripted Bodies contends that this rise in repression must be understood in relation to the broader economic, political, and cultural forces that have produced an increasingly authoritarian society. This book details how these new forms of corporeal control shut down the possibility of public schools developing as places where thinking becomes the organizing principle needed to contribute to a more equal, just, and democratic society.

Book excerpt: Blending romance with a message for social justice, Amanda Heger pens a second “rompy Rom Com at its best” in the Wanderlove series, this one under the lights of Hollywood. Marisol Gutierrez has come to Los Angeles with a single goal: win the prestigious grant that will save her family’s struggling medical clinic back in Nicaragua. But, when a cute guy invites her to sit in the audience of a hip-but-failing comedy program, Marisol figures she’ll get a little entertainment out of her otherwise stressful trip. Evan Abramson thought an internship at the So Late It’s Early Show would be the start of a long television-writing career, but their ratings are sinking. With every show, his plans seem one step closer to collapse. When a backstage crisis throws him into an onstage encounter with a gorgeous and charming audience member, Evan and Marisol become overnight sensations. And soon their made-for-television romance is the only thing keeping So Late from getting the axe. As things heat up onscreen and off, Marisol and Evan are caught between their careers and their growing feelings for one another. Being together in front of the cameras puts Marisol’s grant at risk, but keeping their romance offscreen means Evan’s show is sure to fail. Together they have to decide whether to stick with the script and save their careers or improvise their way toward a happily ever after. Praise for Without Borders “Heger's debut is poignant and crackles with a wry, authentic, relatable voice that will appeal to anyone who's ever felt like a twenty-something fish out of water."―Lia Riley, author of the Off the Map series

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A step-by-step guide to the process of “scripting” your future and successfully manifesting what you want in life • Explores the science behind how the scripting method works and shares the vivid journal entries from the author’s big breakthrough--when he successfully used his method to land a lead role on a TV show • Details how the understanding of incredible new (and, until now, mostly unheard of) scientific discoveries and emerging technologies is the most important key to creating and manifesting in your life • Reveals fun, easy tools for manifesting and self-help, updated for a new generation In this step-by-step guide, filled with success stories and practical exercises, Royce Christyn details a simple “scripting” process for harnessing the Law of Attraction and manifesting what you want in your life--happiness, wealth, travel, love, health, the perfect career, or simply a productive day. The process is backed by science and experience, yet it feels like magic. And all you need is a pen and paper. Inspired by New Thought and Positive Thinking classics, Christyn explains how he developed his scripting method through 4 years of trial and error, keeping what worked and dropping what didn’t until he brought his success rate from 5% to nearly 100%. Sharing pages from his own journals, he outlines how to create the life you want with daily journaling exercises, beginning with a simple list-making practice to figure out your wants and intentions and then progressing to actual scripting of your future, whether the next 12 hours or the next 10 days. He shows how, over time, your scripts will increase in accuracy until they converge with reality. He shares the vivid entries from his big breakthrough--when he successfully used his method to land a lead guest-starring role on Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place with Selena Gomez. He explores how “feeling” your future success as you write your daily scripts helps attract your desired outcomes, and he shares the key phrases to include to make your script come true. The author also explores the science behind how the scripting method works, including a down-to-earth examination of quantum mechanics. From small dreams to lifelong goals, this book gives you the tools to put your thoughts into action and finally close the gap between where you are and where you want to be in your life.

Book excerpt: I knew what my life was going to look like. It felt like reading from a script. Everyone around me whispered the lines for the next scene. There was safety and surety. I loved knowing what was to happen next. However, the day came when it seemed as though my life had "gone off script." Wasn't marriage supposed to follow college? Where was the man I was supposed to meet? I had always been told it would happen. But instead of entering a marriage scene, I found myself feeling misplaced in a scene of singleness. Being single was never what I wanted. Do I have the right script? It took years to realize that my script - though different than I imagined - was written just for me. I have a grand part to play. When I started to listen to the Script Writer for my lines and direction, I began to understand that He gave me a part in a story greater than I could ever have dreamed. Maybe you have felt or currently feel the same way - confused, overlooked, bitter, discontent - because singleness was not the part you wanted. The truth is that the Author of your script lovingly penned this part for you. Your life is Beautifully Scripted by His hand. The question is - are you ready to accept this role and gracefully live out your season of singleness?

Book Scripting Japan

Download or read book Scripting Japan written by Wesley C. Robertson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-07-14 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine this book was written in Comic Sans. Would this choice impact your image of me as an author, despite causing no literal change to the content within? Generally, discussions of how language variants influence interpretation of language acts/users have focused on variation in speech. But it is important to remember that specific ways of representing a language are also often perceived as linked to specific social actors. Nowhere is this fact more relevant than in written Japanese, where a complex history has created a situation where authors can represent any sentence element in three distinct scripts. This monograph provides the first investigation into the ways Japanese authors and their readers engage with this potential for script variation as a social language practice, looking at how purely script-based language choices reflect social ideologies, become linked to language users, and influence the total meaning created by language acts. Throughout the text, analysis of data from multiple studies examines how Japanese language users' experiences with the script variation all around them influence how they engage with, produce, and understand both orthographic variation and major social divides, ultimately evidencing that even the avoidance of variation can become a socially significant act in Japan.
