Commanders must have accurate, detailed, and timely information about the enemy, the terrain, and neighboring troops for successful combat. Well-trained scouts and capably led patrols are among the agencies which furnish them such information. 2. THE SCOUT. A scout is a soldier employed in reconnoitering under conditions which require exceptional ability in the use of arms, ground and cover, in movement, in observing, and in accurately reporting the results of his observation. Download or read book Sniping Scouting and Patrolling written by Gale And Polden Ltd and published by . This book was released on 2024-02-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S.O.A. Books is proud to present this new reprinted edition of the classic early WWII text Sniping, Scouting and Patrolling. This reprint has been created from a scarce original from S.O.A. Books' own reference library. This historically significant guide, first published in 1940 by Gale & Polden Ltd, in the UK has been meticulously reproduced to offer enthusiasts, scholars, and tacticians alike a glimpse into the rigorous and detailed world of military sniping, scouting, and patrolling as taught to British and commonwealth recce specialists, snipers, special operations and Home Guard during the Second World War. Crafted for both instructors and students, this manual encapsulates the strategic depth and practical expertise developed in the crucible of World War I and honed with the advent the more modern technology and strategies of World War II. It covers the gamut of sniping from the selection and use of equipment, the principles of camouflage and observation, to the organisation and execution of scouting and patrolling missions. This reprint maintains the original's integrity, including its page count, photographs, line drawings, and diagrams, ensuring readers gain both the knowledge and the feel of these specialised tactics, techniques and procedures from the era. Communicating basics which are still as relevant to today's soldier as they were to the soldier of the Second World War, Sniping, Scouting and Patrolling goes way beyond mere marksmanship, delving into the psychology and strategy of sniping, scouting, and recce patrolling. It offers a comprehensive look at how to utilise the terrain, how to remain invisible to the enemy while gathering crucial intelligence, and the importance of making every shot count. This manual is a testament to the sniper's role in disrupting the enemy's momentum and routines, emphasising the sniper's duty to remain always on the offensive and the impact of precision and stealth on the outcome of engagements. S.O.A. Books is proud to bring this invaluable resource back into print, offering a bridge between the hard-won lessons of the past and the challenges of the present. This edition is an indispensable resource for those interested in military history, tactics, fieldcraft, and the evolution of combat strategy. Whether you are a historian, a military enthusiast, or someone intrigued by the nuts and bolts of the "how-to" of these types of operations, this modern reprint of Sniping, Scouting and Patrolling is an essential addition to your library.

Book excerpt: "Gary Yee takes what is already a well-researched deep dive into the specifics of sniper training, employment and equipment to a new level." - American Rifleman Magazine Thousands of volumes have been published about World War II but relatively little attention has been given to the sniper. Drawing from memoirs, government documents and interviews, World War II Snipers incorporates eyewitness accounts to weave a comprehensive narrative of snipers in World War II. While certain common traits were shared among belligerents, each had its unique methodology for selecting and training snipers and, as casualties were high, their replacements. Drawn from hunters, competitive shooters, natural marksmen, outdoorsmen, city dwellers, farmers and veteran soldiers, they fought to assert local battlefield dominance and instill among their enemy a paralyzing fear. Sometimes admired and other times reviled by their own comrades because of the retaliation they drew, they were always too few in number. Their battlefield role, their victories and their defeats are retold here from neglected or forgotten sources. The scope of World War II Snipers is extensive with three chapters each on the major theaters of the war including Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the Pacific. This is supported by a lengthy chapter on the sniper rifles used by the snipers and their equipment.

Book Special Forces Sniper Skills

Download or read book Special Forces Sniper Skills written by Robert Stirling and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-12-20 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Special Forces Sniper Skills is a hard-hitting account of the soldiers, weapons and techniques used to coldly eliminate high value targets on the battlefield. Though many books have become best-sellers through telling one side of the story – a sniper's experiences, a training manual or a weapons catalogue – none before have combined the whole spectrum of a sniper's life and skills into one gripping book. This book examines the role of the sniper, and the unique skills employed, when serving as part of a Special Forces unit including the British SAS, the US Navy Seals and the Russian Spetznaz. The book is illustrated with photographs of every aspect of the sniper's trade and stories from the real-life experiences of the author's comrades: soldiers who have served in almost every overt and covert conflict since World War II.

Book Second World War Infantry Tactics

Download or read book Second World War Infantry Tactics written by Stephen Bull and published by Casemate Publishers. This book was released on 2012-07-19 with total page 519 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This wide-ranging military study examines WWII infantry tactics and operations on both sides through the battlefields of Europe. The dirty and dangerous frontlines of World War II belonged to the men who fought in the infantry. Yet the history of infantry tactics is too rarely studied and often misunderstood. Stephen Bull corrects this oversight with an in-depth account of infantry theory and combat experience, covering the British, German, and American Armies in the European theater of operations. Bull’s close analysis of the rules of engagement, the tactical manuals, the training, and the equipment is balanced by vivid descriptions of the tactics as they were tested in action. These operational examples show how infantry tactics on all sides developed as the war progressed, and they give a telling insight into the realities of infantry warfare.

Download or read book Inside the Crosshairs written by Col. Michael Lee Lanning and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2013-06-19 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The American sniper could be regarded as the greatest all-around rifleman the world has ever known. . . ." At the start of the war in Vietnam, the United States had no snipers; by the end of the war, Marine and army precision marksmen had killed more than 10,000 NVA and VC soldiers--the equivalent of an entire division--at the cost of under 20,000 bullets, proving that long-range shooters still had a place in the battlefield. Now noted military historian Michael Lee Lanning shows how U.S. snipers in Vietnam--combining modern technology in weapons, ammunition, and telescopes--used the experience and traditions of centuries of expert shooters to perfect their craft. To provide insight into the use of American snipers in Vietnam, Lanning interviewed men with combat trigger time, as well as their instructors, the founders of the Marine and U.S. Army sniper programs, and the generals to whom they reported. Backed by hard information and firsthand accounts, the author demonstrates how the skills these one-shot killers honed in the jungles of Vietnam provided an indelible legacy that helped save American lives in Grenada, the Gulf War, and Somalia and continues to this day with American troops in Bosnia.

Book World War II Infantry Tactics

Download or read book World War II Infantry Tactics written by Stephen Bull and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-05-27 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite all technological advances, final mastery of any battlefield depends upon the tight-knit group of footsoldiers trained to manoeuvre, shoot and dig in. This first of a two-part study examines the methods by which the Western infantry of World War II - the German, British and US armies - actually brought their firepower to bear. Drawing upon period training manuals for the evolving theory, and on personal memoirs for the individual practice, this first book covers the organization and tactics of the squad of ten or a dozen men, and the platoon of three or four squads. The text is illustrated with contemporary photographs and diagrams, and with colour plates bringing to life the movement of soldiers on the battlefield.
