Book The Glass Artist s Studio Handbook

Download or read book The Glass Artist s Studio Handbook written by Cecilia Cohen and published by Quarto Publishing Group USA. This book was released on 2011-07-01 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The go-to reference that covers the basics of setting up a studio, three popular techniques for creating glass art, and projects that will challenge you. The Glass Artist's Studio Handbook offers readers a comprehensive and accessible guide to not only the nuts and bolts of this perennially popular craft but insight into the artisan crafter's lifestyle. Our book offers much, much more than "just projects"—it will fast become the definitive "bible" for all home crafters. Many glass art how-to books on the market provide precise patterns and instructions for projects that are fairly traditional in technique, materials and style. Completing a project from those books leaves you with a piece that is ideally identical to what the author created—and to what every other student using the book created. Many books are strong in the basics but do not do enough to challenge us to stretch our imagination, experiment with new styles, and explore materials. Readers want creative challenge and stimulation, and Quarry delivers with this complete glass art curriculum.

Featuring and inspiring collection of work by international artists, both emerging and established, including Angus M Powers, Beth Lipman, Fred Wilson, Ingrid Nord, Minako Shirakura and Tobias Rehberger and many more. Contemporary Glass presents essays that focus on the history of glass, from as early as 3000 BC, when it was traditionally used as a pottery glaze, through to contemporary glassmaking techniques. Further essays introduce the new approaches that contemporary makers are adopting and examines the direction in which this medium is presently moving, whilst addressing some of the recurring concepts and themes prevalent in contemporary glass design. Contemporary Glass presents and authoritative overview of an arts and craft scene that is both departing from, and building on its origins, while forming new directions within which practitioners work and wherein their work is appreciated. 300 colour & b/w illustrations

Book Paradise Valley Architecture

Download or read book Paradise Valley Architecture written by Douglas B. Sydnor and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three surveyors in the late 19th century were so attracted to the area's desert beauty that they named it "the Paradise Valley." Starting in the 1920s, adobe homes were constructed in various revival styles. In 1936, the Camelback Inn resort set a high-quality standard with an inviting and relaxed character. Other guest lodges arrived, including the Hermosa Inn and the El Chorro Lodge. The 1950s brought more luxurious resorts, including the Paradise Valley Racquet Club and the Mountain Shadows Resort. With the threat of Phoenix or Scottsdale annexing the area, the citizens started debating incorporation in 1949 and were successful in 1961. Churches, schools, town facilities, and single-family homes followed. Numerous town ordinances were adopted to preserve a quiet, desert lifestyle such as burying all utilities, restrictive zoning, and hillside preservation.
