Book Global Perspectives on Recognising Non formal and Informal Learning

Download or read book Global Perspectives on Recognising Non formal and Informal Learning written by Madhu Singh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-06-05 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the relevance of recognition and validation of non-formal and informal learning education and training, the workplace and society. In an increasing number of countries, it is at the top of the policy and research agenda ranking among the possible ways to redress the glaring lack of relevant academic and vocational qualifications and to promote the development of competences and certification procedures which recognise different types of learning, including formal, non-formal and informal learning. The aim of the book is therefore to present and share experience, expertise and lessons in such a way that enables its effective and immediate use across the full spectrum of country contexts, whether in the developing or developed world. It examines the importance of meeting institutional and political requirements that give genuine value to the recognition of non-formal and informal learning; it shows why recognition is important and clarifies its usefulness and the role it serves in education, working life and voluntary work; it emphasises the importance of the coordination, interests, motivations, trust and acceptance by all stakeholders. The volume is also premised on an understanding of a learning society, in which all social and cultural groups, irrespective of gender, race, social class, ethnicity, mental health difficulties are entitled to quality learning throughout their lives. Overall the thrust is to see the importance of recognising non-formal and informal learning as part of the larger movement for re-directing education and training for change. This change is one that builds on an equitable society and economy and on sustainable development principles and values such as respect for others, respect for difference and diversity, exploration and dialogue.

Book Prosperity for all in the global economy world class skills

Download or read book Prosperity for all in the global economy world class skills written by Lord Leitch and published by Stationery Office. This book was released on 2006-12-12 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document contains the foreword and executive summary to the final report of the Leitch Review of Skills (ISBN 0118404865), one of a series of reviews commissioned by the Chancellor of the Exchequer to accompany the pre-Budget report 2006 (Cm. 6984, ISBN 0101698429). The final report considers the long-term skills needs of the UK economy to maximise economic growth and productivity and to promote social justice and social inclusion. It finds that although the UKs skills base has improved significantly over the last decade, it remains weak by international standards, and even if current targets to improve skills are met, we will still lag behind that of many comparator countries by 2020. The report concludes that a radical step-change is required across the skills spectrum to address these challenges, and makes a number of recommendations designed to help the UK achieve this raised ambition.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Skills and Training

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Skills and Training written by Chris Warhurst and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 769 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skills and workforce development are at the heart of much research on work, employment, and management. But are they so important? To what extent can they make a difference for individuals, organizations, and nations? How are the supply and, more importantly, the utilization of skill, currently evolving? What are the key factors shaping skills trajectories of the future? This Handbook provides an authoritative consideration of issues such as these. It does so by drawing on experts in a wide range of disciplines including sociology, economics, labour/industrial relations, human resource management, education, and geography. The Handbook is relevant for all with an interest in the changing nature - and future - of work, employment, and management. It draws on the latest scholarly insights to shed new light on all the major issues concerning skills and training today. While written primarily by leading scholars in the field, it is equally relevant to policy makers and practitioners responsible for shaping the development of human capability today and into the future.

Book World Development Report 2019

Download or read book World Development Report 2019 written by World Bank and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2018-10-31 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Work is constantly reshaped by technological progress. New ways of production are adopted, markets expand, and societies evolve. But some changes provoke more attention than others, in part due to the vast uncertainty involved in making predictions about the future. The 2019 World Development Report will study how the nature of work is changing as a result of advances in technology today. Technological progress disrupts existing systems. A new social contract is needed to smooth the transition and guard against rising inequality. Significant investments in human capital throughout a person’s lifecycle are vital to this effort. If workers are to stay competitive against machines they need to train or retool existing skills. A social protection system that includes a minimum basic level of protection for workers and citizens can complement new forms of employment. Improved private sector policies to encourage startup activity and competition can help countries compete in the digital age. Governments also need to ensure that firms pay their fair share of taxes, in part to fund this new social contract. The 2019 World Development Report presents an analysis of these issues based upon the available evidence.

Book HC 332 Creative Industries in Scotland

Download or read book HC 332 Creative Industries in Scotland written by Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons. Scottish Affairs Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2016-01-18 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scotland's creative industries are an international success story, having produced some of the world's best creative talent and some of the world's best-selling creative content. Scotland also hosts the world's largest arts festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which brings together performers and audiences from across Scotland, the UK and the world. The creative industries in Scotland have been tremendously successful, and they will no doubt continue to be so. For the potential of these industries to be maximised, however, it is essential that industry views are taken into account by both the UK and Scottish governments in order to create the right policy framework for supporting creative enterprises and benefitting the Scottish economy and Scotland's reputation as a centre of creative talent. Scottish Parliament's Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee recently held an inquiry into the economic impact of the creative industries in Scotland, looking at the film, TV and video games industries, and produced a report in March 2015. Their work focused on devolved areas of responsibility but also considered the impact of reserved matters such as tax reliefs, immigration and broadcasting. The Scottish Government responded to the report in May 2015, accepting a number of their recommendations and committing to take action on them. We launched our inquiry into the creative industries in Scotland to focus on some of the reserved policy areas highlighted by the Scottish Parliament's Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee and to look at how the interests of the creative industries in Scotland are represented at a UK-level.
