Book Intra household Resource Allocation when Food Prices Soar Impacts on Child Growth in Indonesia

Download or read book Intra household Resource Allocation when Food Prices Soar Impacts on Child Growth in Indonesia written by Futoshi Yamauchi and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2019-09-20 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An unanticipated spike in food prices can increase malnutrition among the poor with lasting consequences, but parents can protect the most vulnerable within the family by distributing scarce food to minimize adverse impacts. To find evidence of this strategy, we use anthropometric and consumption data from Indonesia, collected before and after the 2007/08 food price crisis. Our results indicate that soaring food prices had a significant and uneven impact on growth among children. Using household fixed effects, we find that the negative impact was significantly larger among larger children, as measured by the initial height z-score. We find that children with low height z-scores at the start of the crisis gained ground relative to their peers during the crisis, consistent with food-resource allocations in their favor. The findings remain robust when controlling for possible differential impacts by gender, family size and food producer status. We conclude that the food price crises had negative long-term impacts on children, and that parental behavior protected the most vulnerable. For Indonesian policy makers, our results indicate that safeguarding family food security should be a priority when targeting specific groups of children is difficult.

Book The Complete Idiot s Guide to Improving Your Credit Score

Download or read book The Complete Idiot s Guide to Improving Your Credit Score written by Lita Epstein and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2007 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consumers have known about credit reports for a long time; we're well aware that lenders rely on them to determine whether they want to do business with us. Any time we want to buy a house, rent an apartment, or take out a loan, it's a safe assumption that one or several reporting agencies are going to be contacted to provide our credit history. But we don't always realize that there's a single element on that report that determines success or failure, and that's a three-digit number called a credit score. Created by Fair Isaac and Company, this formerly secret FICO number was until fairly recently available only to lenders and businesses, and although it's hush-hush no longer, many of us still don't understand it because there hasn't been enough information on what it is and what exactly lenders are looking for. And we certainly haven't known how to make it work for us rather than against us. In The Complete Idiot's Guide to Improving Your Credit Score, author Lita Epstein clearly explains what your credit score is and how it impacts your life. Rather than putting the focus squarely on credit emergencies, it provides everything readers need to know to raise their score and keep it high, now and in the future.

Book Improving Teacher Development and Evaluation

Download or read book Improving Teacher Development and Evaluation written by Robert J. Marzano and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-16 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Throughout history education systems have strived to help teachers be as effective as possible in order to help students learn as much as possible. However, these teacher evaluation efforts have long been unhelpful in the pursuit of teacher development. Reflecting on, Observing, and Coaching Teaching presents a case for the necessity of effective teacher evaluation in the name of strong teacher development. Authors Robert J. Marzano, Cameron L. Rains, and Philip B. Warrick provide in-depth background research on the history of teacher evaluation, strong cases for the necessity of an intertwined evaluation and development system, as well as specific suggestions for improvement in both fields. Teachers should not be interchangeable parts. They should be vital cogs in an educational machine who each fill their niche as effectively as possible, and this book serves that end"--

Book Improved Test Scores Attitudes and Behaviors in America s Schools

Download or read book Improved Test Scores Attitudes and Behaviors in America s Schools written by Thomas C. DeBello and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1999-10-30 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Education is a profession in which billions of federal dollars have been spent to reduce academic underachievement—particularly for minority children from poverty homes. Few funded programs have reduced failure on standardized achievement tests. Despite either repetition or innovation, most children who fail do not perform substantially better the next time around. On the other hand, practitioners who have used the Dunn and Dunn learning-styles approaches have reported statistically higher standardized achievement test scores among average, poorly achieving, and special education students. This book is based on the practical, diverse experiences of more than thirty different supervisors throughout the United States. Representing a variety of urban and suburban locations with diverse student populations, each supervisor was able to obtain significantly higher standardized achievement test scores for his or her student populations.
