Elle peut tout aussi bien s’effectuer en milieu spécialisé, pour les cas de handicaps plus sévères. Sémantique précisée, l’autisme renvoie à une catégorie de troubles neuro-développementaux qui recouvrent des situations cliniques diverses. Il rend compte de situations de handicap hétérogènes qui impliquent la proposition de réponses variées et adaptées aux spécificités propres et singulières de chaque situation vécue. Cette diversité est précisée sous forme de catégories ou sous forme dimensionnelle. L’idée s’est développée que ces catégories sont de simples variantes d’une même pathologie et constituent le continuum d’un même trouble : le trouble du spectre de l’autisme (TSA).
