Book SCM Core Text The Book of Revelation

Download or read book SCM Core Text The Book of Revelation written by Simon Woodman and published by SCM Press. This book was released on 2013-01-25 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For most people, Revelation is a book that is either largely ignored, or it is the object of such fanatical study and fanciful interpretation that it passes from the realm of the interesting and helpful into the realm of fantasy and speculation. Much literature has been published in recent years on its interpretation some of which is scholarly and technical, and some of which is populist and accessible. The problem is that the technical and scholarly material frequently requires careful and detailed study, combined with an advanced level of knowledge, whereas much of the populist material tends toward the fanatical and fanciful. The aim of this book is to bridge this gap. It is written with second and third year university students in mind, and would also be helpful for pastors and those in local churches who want to take seriously their study of this often (needlessly) confusing biblical book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monumental commentary on the book of Revelation, originally published in 1999, has been highly acclaimed by scholars, pastors, students, and others seriously interested in interpreting the Apocalypse for the benefit of the church. Too often Revelation is viewed as a book only about the future. As G. K. Beale shows, however, Revelation is not merely a futurology but a book about how the church should live for the glory of God throughout the ages -- including our own. Engaging important questions concerning the interpretation of Revelation in scholarship today, as well as interacting with the various viewpoints scholars hold on these issues, Beale's work makes a major contribution in the much-debated area of how the Old Testament is used in the Apocalypse. Approaching Revelation in terms of its own historical background and literary character, Beale argues convincingly that John's use of Old Testament allusions -- and the way the Jewish exegetical tradition interpreted these same allusions -- provides the key for unlocking the meaning of Revelation's many obscure metaphors. In the course of Beale's careful verse-by-verse exegesis, which also untangles the logical flow of John's thought as it develops from chapter to chapter, it becomes clear that Revelation's challenging pictures are best understood not by apparent technological and contemporary parallels in the twentieth century but by Old Testament and Jewish parallels from the distant past.

Book The Book of Revelation

Download or read book The Book of Revelation written by and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2011-10-27 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: History is littered with those who have prophesied the end of the world, but there can be only one prophecyand the time has come for us to truly understand it. The book of Revelation, perhaps the most misunderstood scriptural text, contains the key to our hope and salvation when the end of days arrives. With the stunning evidence discovered during his exhaustive twenty-year study of Scripture, which included Greek, Hebrew, and Latin primary texts, author Timothy R. Mungovan presents The Book of Revelation: A Complete and Precise Understanding, a biblical expos containing everything Christians must know about the second coming of Jesus Christ. Mungovans compelling, research-driven commentary details every element and event leading up to and following the battle of Armageddon, including proof of the latest possible year for the beginning of the tribulation; the true character of the Antichrist; the four horsemen accurately identified; the seven trumpets events and their true meaning and consequence; the history and fallacy of rapture theory; Gods purpose for the millennial age; the fallen angels and their literal offspring; shocking photographic proof of the bottomless pit inside the earth; a complete quick reference to the events of tribulation; a primary list of key biblical metaphors. The approaching great tribulation will overtake mankind and dramatically alter world politics, economics, and society as we know them today. Only through faith and understanding can we hope to survive the Antichrist and the armies of Satan and live on into the world that is to come.
