Download or read book Physical Adsorption written by L.W. Bruch and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2007-03-29 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive account of the phenomena that occur when simple gases interact with surfaces, this text takes a fundamental perspective. Physical adsorption involves atomic or molecular films bound to surfaces by less than 0.5 eV per particle. Physically absorbed thin films exhibit remarkably diverse properties and behave in a manner characteristic of two-dimensional matter. This exploration focuses on monolayer physics, emphasizing atomic rather than molecular adsorption. The phase diagrams of physically absorbed films are diverse and rich in structure because of the subtle and varied competition between the two interactions: the mutual interaction between adsorbed molecules, and the force binding each molecule to the surface. The authors explain the microscopic origin of these forces in terms of constituent electrons and nuclei. They then examine the structural and dynamical properties of these films in the context of atomic and solid-state physics, statistical mechanics, and computer simulations. This text will be of interest to research chemists, physicists, and engineers alike, as well as students in these fields. Key literature citations allow readers to trace important developments, and thought-provoking problems are addressed in detail.

  • ISBN : 9780073253152
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Physics of Everyday Phenomena written by W. Thomas Griffith and published by McGraw-Hill Science, Engineering & Mathematics. This book was released on 2006-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Physics of Everyday Phenomena, Fifth Edition, introduces students to the basic concepts of physics using examples of common occurrences. Intended for use in a one-semester or two-quarter course in conceptual physics, this book is written in a narrative style, frequently using questions designed to draw the reader into a dialogue about the ideas of physics. This inclusive style allows the book to be used by anyone interested in exploring the nature of physics and explanations of everyday physical phenomena. Beginning students will benefit from the large number of student aids and the reduced math content. Professors will appreciate the organization of the material and the wealth of pedagogical tools.

Book Scientific Visualization of Physical Phenomena

Download or read book Scientific Visualization of Physical Phenomena written by Nicholas M. Patrikalakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 669 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Visualization of Physical Phenomena reflects the special emphasis of the Computer Graphics Society's Ninth International Conference, held at the MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA in June, 1991. This volume contains the proceedings of the conference, which, since its foundation in 1983, continues to attract high quality research articles in all aspects of Computer Graphics and its applications. Visualization in science and engineering is rapidly developing into a vital area because of its potential for significantly contributing to the understanding of physical processes and the design automation of man-made systems. With the increasing emphasis in handling complicated physical and artificial processes and systems and with continuing advances in specialized graphics hardware and processing software and algorithms, visualization is expected to play an increasingly dominant role in the foreseeable future.

McGraw-Hill Education's Connect, is also available as an optional, add on item. Connect is the only integrated learning system that empowers students by continuously adapting to deliver precisely what they need, when they need it, how they need it, so that class time is more effective. Connect allows the professor to assign homework, quizzes, and tests easily and automatically grades and records the scores of the student's work. Problems are randomized to prevent sharing of answers and may also have a "multi-step solution" which helps move the students' learning along if they experience difficulty.

Book Mathematical and Numerical Modelling in Electrical Engineering Theory and Applications

Download or read book Mathematical and Numerical Modelling in Electrical Engineering Theory and Applications written by Michal Krízek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical modeling plays an essential role in science and engineering. Costly and time consuming experiments (if they can be done at all) are replaced by computational analysis. In industry, commercial codes are widely used. They are flexible and can be adjusted for solving specific problems of interest. Solving large problems with tens or hundreds of thousands unknowns becomes routine. The aim of analysis is to predict the behavior of the engineering and physical reality usually within the constraints of cost and time. Today, human cost and time are more important than computer cost. This trend will continue in the future. Agreement between computational results and reality is related to two factors, namely mathematical formulation of the problems and the accuracy of the numerical solution. The accuracy has to be understood in the context of the aim of the analysis. A small error in an inappropriate norm does not necessarily mean that the computed results are usable for practical purposes.
