Book Sciatica Relief Workouts for Seniors for Chronic Pain and Nerve Health

Download or read book Sciatica Relief Workouts for Seniors for Chronic Pain and Nerve Health written by Czech J Kimberly and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-12-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sciatica may stem from a bone spur or a herniated disk exerting pressure on the nerve. Given that most individuals have minor spinal abnormalities, doctors refrain from relying solely on imaging tests for diagnosis. Instead, they often prescribe self-care measures and recommend specific exercises. In many cases, these strategies prove effective. While sciatica pain can be intense, about three-quarters of individuals witness improvement within a few weeks. Increased mobility and reduced sitting often aid in relief, complemented by over-the-counter pain medications. For patients enduring persistent pain beyond four months, conservative treatment might not suffice. Those with prolonged pain from a herniated disk might find better relief through back surgery. Maintaining an active routine can help alleviate sciatica if it resurfaces, according to Jones. Additionally, incorporating gentle movements targeting the affected area can be beneficial. Book Sciatica and Chronic Pain

Download or read book Sciatica and Chronic Pain written by Robert W. Baloh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-14 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This highly engaging title offers a concise, state-of-the-art overview of the management of sciatica and chronic pain. Written by a well-known neurologist, the book explores the multifaceted approach to the management of sciatica and chronic pain from many viewpoints, including the pharmacologic and surgical, as well as less orthodox methods. In discussing the many different aspects of pain – including neural networks, neural transmitters and genetic viewpoints – the book also provides a thorough review of how various factors interact to make us perceive pain. Importantly, the neuroscience and medical jargon that goes with the field is minimized by the author by defining terms as they are introduced and providing a glossary with definitions of key terms. Contributing to the unique nature of this highly instructive book, three patients with sciatica and chronic pain are followed serially throughout the text to illustrate important concepts that are discussed. A wide range of charts, figures and tables help clarify new concepts as well. Practical and illustrative, Sciatica and Chronic Pain: Past, Present and Future will be of great interest to a wide audience, including medical trainees and practicing physicians at all stages of their careers. Patients may find the book of significant value as well.

Book Selected Health Conditions and Likelihood of Improvement with Treatment

Download or read book Selected Health Conditions and Likelihood of Improvement with Treatment written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-07-12 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Social Security Administration (SSA) administers two programs that provide disability benefits: the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program. SSDI provides disability benefits to people (under the full retirement age) who are no longer able to work because of a disabling medical condition. SSI provides income assistance for disabled, blind, and aged people who have limited income and resources regardless of their prior participation in the labor force. Both programs share a common disability determination process administered by SSA and state agencies as well as a common definition of disability for adults: "the inability to engage in any substantial gainful activity by reason of any medically determinable physical or mental impairment which can be expected to result in death or which has lasted or can be expected to last for a continuous period of not less than 12 months." Disabled workers might receive either SSDI benefits or SSI payments, or both, depending on their recent work history and current income and assets. Disabled workers might also receive benefits from other public programs such as workers' compensation, which insures against work-related illness or injuries occurring on the job, but those other programs have their own definitions and eligibility criteria. Selected Health Conditions and Likelihood of Improvement with Treatment identifies and defines the professionally accepted, standard measurements of outcomes improvement for medical conditions. This report also identifies specific, long-lasting medical conditions for adults in the categories of mental health disorders, cancers, and musculoskeletal disorders. Specifically, these conditions are disabling for a length of time, but typically don't result in permanently disabling limitations; are responsive to treatment; and after a specific length of time of treatment, improve to the point at which the conditions are no longer disabling.
