Book Imperial Overstretch Germany in Soviet Policy from Stalin to Gorbachev

Download or read book Imperial Overstretch Germany in Soviet Policy from Stalin to Gorbachev written by Hannes Adomeit and published by Nomos Verlag. This book was released on 2016-07-11 with total page 756 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Prof. Dr. h.c. Horst Teltschik, September 2015 "Of all of the analyses of the fall of the Soviet Union and reunification of Germany, Hannes Adomeit's 1998 classic, "Imperial Overstretch", has stood the test of time. Its re-publication here by Nomos, with some modest updates by the author, will be welcomed by scholars, students, the policy community, and the informed public, as a trenchant interpretation of what happened to the 'Soviet bloc', but also as an introduction to the assertive imperial politics of Vladimir Putin and the Russian Federation." Book Political Culture in Germany

Download or read book Political Culture in Germany written by Dirk Berg-Schlosser and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aspects of political culture, i.e. concerns with the 'subjective' dimension of politics including dominant political orientations, perceptions and interpretations, always have been particularly relevant with regard to the case of Germany and its great variety of political regimes during the last century. This is true both with regard to political science and practical politics. This volume provides a comprehensive overview concerning the major historical legacies, regional and sub-cultural variations, and current problems of democratic orientations, national identity and relationships to the outside world.

Book Strategies of Humor in Post Unification German Literature Film and Other Media

Download or read book Strategies of Humor in Post Unification German Literature Film and Other Media written by Jill Twark and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2011-01-18 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fourteen chapters in this anthology feature original analyses of contemporary German-language literary texts, films, political cartoons, cabaret, and other types of performance. The artworks display a wide spectrum of humor modes, such as irony, satire, the grotesque, Jewish humor, and slapstick, as responses to unification with the accompanying euphoria, but also alienation and dislocation. Kerstin Hensel’s Lärchenau, Christoph Hein’s Landnahme, and vignette collections by Jakob Hein (Antrag auf ständige Ausreise und andere Mythen der DDR) and Wladimir Kaminer (Es gab keinen Sex im Sozialismus) are interpreted as examples of the grotesque. The popular films Lola rennt, Sonnenallee, Herr Lehmann, NVA, Alles auf Zucker!, and Mein Führer—Die wirklich wahrste Wahrheit über Adolf Hitler are reexamined through the lens of traditional and more recent humor or comic book theories. The contributors focus on how each artwork enriches four prominent postwall German cultural trends: post-unification identity reconstruction, Vergangenheitsbewältigung (including Hitler humor), New German Popular Literature (Christian Kracht’s ironic subtexts), and immigrant perspectives (a “third voice” in the East-West binary reflected here pointedly in Eulenspiegel cartoons). To date, no other scholarly work provides as comprehensive an overview of the diverse strategies of humor used in the past two decades in German-speaking countries.

Book Dramaturgies of Theatrical Imagination

Download or read book Dramaturgies of Theatrical Imagination written by Mimmi Woisnitza and published by Rombach Wissenschaft. This book was released on 2020 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study examines an aspect of German theatre history that is relevant also in the context of the current engagement with theatrical phenomenology and reception. The historical, discursive, and political situating of canonical dramas shows that dramatic theater itself is to be regarded as part of cultural and theatrical practice. The dramas of Lessing and Kleist operate with a broad spectrum of theatrical techniques (such as teichoscopy, ekphrasis, masquerade and mise en abyme) that seek to promote, shape and direct the imaginative participation of their implied audiences. In addition to presenting imagination on the plot level, the dramas reflect their own medial status by staging the consequences and the reformation of false imaginative investments.
