Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Scenes From Italy's War Since I wrote this Preface and the first third Of the book, the winter's leisure has been interrupted by the brief campaign in which the Italians captured men and guns, liberated Trieste and Trento, and forced Austria to surrender. That part Of the book stands as first written, with the alteration or addition of a very few sentences referring to the end Of the war. We have thus, for more than three years, been living in constant daily contact with Italians of all ranks, some times joining their messes, always receiving their orders, discussing points of service with them, loading our ambulances daily with their sick and wounded. Our Unit also had for two years a field hospital for Italian soldiers. These opportunities for intercourse and oh servation have been rendered greater by the confidence with which we have always been treated by the Italian chiefs with whom we came in contact, by the spirit Of hospitality and comradeship in which we have been received by thousands of Italian Officers in the scores Of different divisions that we have served, and by the popularity of our service among the peasant soldiers in the ranks. Book Italy in the War Classic Reprint

Download or read book Italy in the War Classic Reprint written by Sidney Low and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Italy in the War It was an honourable privilege to be permitted to observe, at close range, the young army of an old and famous people, locked in its struggle with a formidable antagonist. Nor could the observer fail to be stirred by these grandiose warlike Operations amid scenes that make so moving an appeal to the historic and artistic imagination carried on as they were under conditions of exceptional and excessive difficulty. Italy has borne the strain with patriotic ardour and high courage, and she has done valuable service to her allies no less than to herself. She has earned the gratitude and respect of the great nations with which she is associated in the vindication of liberty and justice and her well-wishers have good ground to expect that she will emerge from the contest with her national and racial unity complete, and with her political and economic stability more securely established. Book The Italian Campaign One Soldier s Story of a Forgotten War

Download or read book The Italian Campaign One Soldier s Story of a Forgotten War written by Albert DeFazio and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2020-02-28 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Merriam Press World War 2 Memoir. As school children, most Americans learned about Wold War II and the attack on Pearl Harbor, the D-Day invasion of Normandy, the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. But few people know much about the Italian Campaign during that war. Of all the western fronts in World War II, the Italian campaign cost the most lives. One of its survivors, Albert DeFazio, didn't like to talk about his experiences as an American soldier in World War II, but he was also concerned that so little was known about the suffering and death in Italy. It took Albert decades to be able to describe his experiences in World War II - memories that still haunt him. Now, after seventy years, Albert DeFazio has told his story of the war he cannot forget. This new, expanded edition, brings Albert's story to life with new material and images of Scenes from a Forgotten War. 72 photographs and illustrations, 1 map.

Book excerpt: Italy in the Second World War: Alternative Perspectives stems from the necessity to write an important page of Second World War history, by focusing on the Italian war experience, which has been overshadowed in international research by the attention given to its senior Axis partner. Book The Italian Army of World War I

Download or read book The Italian Army of World War I written by David Nicolle and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-11-20 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dilemma of the young Italian kingdom and the experience of her army in the Great War were unique among the combatant nations. Late to enter the war against the Central Powers, she faced a massively defended Austro-Hungarian front in the north, including strong mountain features, as well as distractions in the Balkans and a simultaneous rebellion in her Libyan colony. Costly and repeated battles on the Isonzo front culminated in the disaster of Caporetto in October 1917, followed by a remarkable revival and eventual victory in 1918. This concise study describes and illustrates the Italian Army's campaigns, organisation, uniforms, weapons and equipment – including the famous 'death companies' and Arditi assault troops.

Book Scenes From Anti Nazi War

Download or read book Scenes From Anti Nazi War written by Basil Davidson and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 1981 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this lively and instructive memoir of his experience with the anti-Nazi underground in Italy and Yugoslavia during World War II, Basil Davidson throws needed light on a much-neglected part of European history. Sent to the area as a representative of the British Special Operations Executive (SOE), he is able to recount at first hand the intense determination of the revolutionary partisans, who hoped that their sacrifices would lead to a new society, and the equally determined policy of the Allies to suppress them.
