The book provides templates, questionnaires and examples to enable the reader to create customized archival policies and procedures that accommodate the particular circumstances they find themselves in. The book also contains exercises and quizzes designed to reinforce the retention and understanding of critical concepts. In addition to examples it has lists of additional resources so those who want more detailed information on particular topics can find it. The sources for the transcriptions are recordings of traditional musicians from the 1920s through the early 1940s drawn from (1) commercial recordings of "hillbilly" musicians, and (2) field recordings in the collection of the Library of Congress’s Archive of American Folk Song, now part of the Archive of Folk Culture. Each transcription is accompanied by a brief contextualizing essay discussing the song’s history and influence, recording and performance information (whenever available), and an examination of the tune. Years later, my interest unfolded into such marvelous events beginning in the Flats of Cleveland. This is where my walk began, heading south towards the Ohio River. In the 156 hour walk, I got to see the same sights the canalers experienced nearly 200 years ago. I walked into the back woods and many out-of-the-way places. I would be certain that since the final days of the canal brought on by the flood of 1913, I am the only person who has walked its distance. To sum it up, it was pure adventure, excitement, and fulfillment.
