Book Business Writing Scenarios

Download or read book Business Writing Scenarios written by Jon Ramsey and published by Macmillan Higher Education. This book was released on 2016-02-17 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an experienced instructor of business writing courses, Business Writing Scenarios offers a hands on approach that immerses students in the types of writing situations they will encounter throughout their working lives. Detailed guidance and numerous examples help students build the skills they will need to respond to these situations effectively. In each of the core chapters, students first learn how other writers addressed a particular writing situation—such as having to convey disappointing news to employees, explain a major policy change, or respond to a difficult customer—effectively or ineffectively. Students then apply what they’ve learned through guided activities ("applications") that ask them to respond in writing to a similar business scenario. Additionally, the book emphasizes the potentially serious consequences of ill-considered business communications, especially those delivered electronically. A chapter dedicated to business writing gaffes provides many real-world examples of these mistakes and advises students on how to avoid them. Suitable for use on its own or in conjunction with another text, Business Writing Scenarios is a useful addition to any course building students business writing skills.

Download or read book What I Wish I Had Known written by Cameron Gallant and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-01-01 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Please Note: This handbook is intended only for students and coaches who participate in FPSPI's Scenario Writing. If you leave a review, it would be greatly appreciated if you include what affiliate you are from. Hi there! My name is Cameron Gallant. I'm an FPS alumni who is just starting my freshmen year at a university. FPS, throughout my high school years, was an amazing experience that helped shape my way of thinking about global issues. In my time with FPS, I participated in GIPS, CmPS, and Scenario Writing. The great times I had and friendships I made are inexpressible. FPSers creative thinking always amazes me. Scenarios envelop me in their own little worlds in a mere 1500 words. They make me feel for their characters, they share with me hope and loss, and they make me think about the future in different ways. CmPS teams make me remember there is hope for our generation after all. The passion and brilliance demonstrated by these people is beyond words. These people are truly amazing. No matter if you end up qualifying for internationals or not, Future Problem Solvers will help you grow. You will learn to communicate better, share your ideas, and problem solve. You will meet and befriend awesome people, and will likely cherish memories from FPS for the rest of your life. So yay! I'm so glad you're interested in scenario writing! In this book, I'll do my best to tell you all about what to do and not to do to write a winning scenario. I'll also share my two scenarios that made it to the international level, and give you as much guidance as I can to make sure you start off (or continue) in the right direction. The material in this book comes from my personal experience (which as I'll talk more about later), I believe is more useful than the standard information you can get from the FPSPI Mart for scenario writing. I believe there is not enough good scenario writing advice out there, which is why I wrote this book in the first place. When I first started scenario writing, I had no coach (other than my GIPS coach, who was unfamiliar with scenario writing), and few resources. The scenario writing process was a strange and mysterious process, as it may be for you right now. I was burning with questions that no one could seem to answer. I ended up learning by doing. I read and studied example after example of past scenario writing winners. I found the scenario writing rubric judges at internationals use to evaluate scenarios, and slowly I crafted my first scenario. This is what I full heartedly recommend to you as well-learn by doing. That being said, this book should provide you with a firm foundation which should place you one step ahead of the game. I am under no delusion that I am the best writer out there, but I believe that I can provide you with some extremely useful advice from by personal experience. Through this book, I will also share with you my original, unedited first drafts of my internationally competing scenarios with analysis. Whether you are a first time scenario writing, a coach trying to learn more about something new you are teaching, or a previous scenario writing competitor looking to hone your writing to hit home, I truly hope you'll find great use in this book. Good luck and best wishes, Cameron Gallant
