Be immersed in the essence of the unknown made known, that your insatiable desire to discover the mystery and meaning of what had been veiled is now revealed. Book excerpt: She had been abandoned as a baby and now she was doing the abandoning. That house and family she left behind. Her guardian had died suddenly. It was grief that drove her away as a teen. At least that's what she told anyone who would ask. However, that wasn't the reason. She kept a secret locked up inside her never to resurface. Only one other person knew and she was going to keep it that way. Katrina told herself she would never return to that house, but after an intriguing phone call from the lawyer handling her guardian's estate she found herself facing her past and her fear. "No big deal" Katrina tells herself, she could handle anything. She didn't expect this small town lawyer to be a handsome, sea-eyed charmer with suspicion in his every action. Katrina ignores his strange ways until a phone call comes late one night and leaves her without a word. "Her body was found" Katrina's confidant says. That's impossible. It couldn't be "her body." Would her gruesome secret be revealed? What would keep her afloat? Could her salvation be the handsome so-called lawyer?

Download or read book Kolar Gold Fields Down Memory Lane written by Bridget White and published by Author House. This book was released on 2010-08-20 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kolar Gold Fields is a small mining town in the erstwhile Mysore State (now known as Karnataka) in India. It was owned by the John Taylor and Sons Company, a British Mining Firm for more than a century. It was well known for its Colonial ambience and was called Little England due to its British and Anglo-Indian population. It was one of Indias earliest industrialized towns and was unique for its secular and egalitarian society. Aptly named Kolar Gold Fields Down Memory Lane the book undertakes a nostalgic journey right from the days of the origins of the Kolar Gold Mines, its historical and mythological connections, its golden progress through the years under the John Taylor and Sons Company, its gradual decline, and the final closure of the once prosperous Kolar Gold Mining Company in 2003. Thus ending a golden chapter in History, which now lies buried in the annals of time. It then moves on to the Anglo-Indian Community (a living legacy of the British Raj) in the early days of KGF. It brings out vividly the glorious and cosmopolitan life led by that tiny vibrant community in KGF who lived in sprawling bungalows with beautiful gardens and domestic helpers at their beck and call. It recalls the grand Christmas Balls and Dances held at the Skating Rink and the Jam Sessions and Pound Parties in Buffalo Lodge. It finally focuses on the author's childhood memories of growing up in KGF in the 1950s and 60s. It reminds one of lifes many simple pleasures home, family, school, playmates, entertainments, games, etc. It recalls memories of old familiar haunts and landmarks of KGF and the people who were an indispensable part of life in those days. It succeeds in preserving the nuances of a bygone era.

Download or read book The Rampant Reaper written by Marlys Millhiser and published by Minotaur Books. This book was released on 2010-04-01 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millhiser outdoes herself yet again in The Rampant Reaper, an effort sure to leave both loyal fans and new readers clamoring for the next installment of this unconventional and engaging series. Literary agent and amateur sleuth Charlie Greene accompanies her mother to her great-great-aunt's funeral under great duress--after all, Charlie herself is adopted, and this part of her extended family has never made her feel that welcome. Plus, it's in Myrtle, Iowa, about as far from Charlie's life as a high-powered California literary agent as one can get. But she agrees to go. How bad could it be? In one of Marlys Millhiser's quirky, offbeat mysteries, that is the world's biggest rhetorical question. Because someone may be offing the elderly in this midwestern town's only nursing home, and it falls to Charlie, the suspicious outsider, to put all the pieces together. Dealing with a passel of wacky relatives she's never met and a vicious killer as well won't be the easiest task she's ever been handed, but Charlie's good humor and recently acquired investigative experience should be more than enough to finish the job. That is, if she can escape the prying eyes that seem to peer at her from every corner of the tiny town.

Download or read book Forest Leaves written by Marigold Pritchard and published by Fineleaf Editions. This book was released on 2009-08 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to be a conservative in an age so sceptical of conservatism? How can we live in the presence of our 'canonized forefathers' at a time when their cultural, religious and political bequest is so routinely rejected? With soft left-liberalism as the dominant force in Western politics, what can conservatives now contribute to public debate that will not be dismissed as pure nostalgia? In this highly personal and witty book, renowned philosopher Roger Scruton explains how to live as a conservative in spite of the pressures to exist otherwise. Drawing on his own experience as a counter-cultural presence in public life, Scruton argues that while humanity might survive in the absence of the conservative outlook, it certainly wont flourish.

In this, her first cookery book, 'queen of herbs' Jekka offers over 250 original recipes using simple garden herbs, along with tips for growing and maintaining them. Herbs have long been a part of British culinary history, yet few people utilise them to their full potential. Incredibly versatile, not only do herbs impart flavour, aroma and texture to dishes, they are extremely beneficial to our health. Much more than a cookbook, Jekka's Herb Kitchen features 50 herbs with a chapter and recipes devoted to each - Jekka's huge knowledge of each herb's history, cultivation and medicinal and culinary uses is unsurpassed. Her recipes are simple and economical - she shows how herbs can transform a cheap cut of meat, enliven a pasta sauce, and even add delight to desserts. She also offers suggestions for how best to combine herbs and what parts to use, gives ideas for using up a glut of a specific herb, and advises on how to preserve your herbs for the winter months. Moreover, this volume is a family affair - many of Jekka's recipes are inspired by her grandmother and mother, and the stunning illustrations are by Jekka's daughter, Hannah McVicar. With colour photographs throughout, this is a unique and beautiful volume from the UK's foremost authority on herbs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a memoir which has taken the form of a young runaway boy’s tale of being lost and found. Narayanasamy Srinivasan, the author and the protagonist of this story, recollects his escapade from fifty years ago as a 12-year-old boy who eloped from his village and embarked on an adventure to the city, which then became a story worth passing on across generations. The story in itself has multiple twists and makes us realize that the truth is stranger than fiction. The author paints a vivid image of what it meant to be in Tamil Nadu (India) in the 1960s, its culture, traditions, history, cinema and politics. To those who can relate to the period, be prepared to be taken back in time and drenched in nostalgia. And the rest of you, prepare to get introduced to the magic of the 60s.

Download or read book Down the Memory Lane written by Siddhartha Kumar Dutta and published by Blue Rose Publishers. This book was released on 2020-09-30 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the Fag end of my 35 years service life in a Govt. sector, I have written a book with the Title “Down the memory lane”, where the title itself reflects the contents of the book. During my 35 years of journey, I have worked in different states and locations within our country and closely observed and enjoyed the rich heritage of Indian culture, mingled with the different people having different languages and behaviour and enjoyed, explored the natural beauty of the places wherever I was posted. In fact, during my service I came across enormous hurdles and with positive endeavour, I built up a successful carrier. The book will reveal before the readers that how much challenging is the Government job, especially for those, who are working in a service sector with commercial set up. I have tried to focus on the working of our esteemed organization and while reading, readers may at a glance have an idea that how our pioneer organization is putting its effort in Nation building, how it achieved a “Mini Ratna” status among the Public Sector Undertakings, facing stiff challenges from the Private competitors, where the innovative ideas of management and never give up spirit of staff are instrumental for its successful growth. By sharing my rich experiences, I have tried to give a message to the new generation of the Corporation that how honesty, sincerity and devotion can make them perfect and at the same time make them successful in every sphere of life. Always be positive and through innovative plans, they can come up as a true leader, without any stress, or frustration. If my book motivates and inspire anybody, all my efforts towards writing the book will be successful. Hope all sections of readers will find the book interesting and I will eagerly wait for the valuable feedback from the readers.
